Sunsets and evenings on the covered porch with family, while being ‘serenaded’ by coyotes and bugling elk was one of the highlights of the trip. The Jura espresso/coffee maker was an unexpected treat.

Our family came to the Black Hills to enjoy the abundance of MVUM roads and trails. We brought our Jeeps and the Alpine Prairie Lodge is right in the middle of some of the seemingly endless possibilities of riding opportunities. The lodge sits right on the newly paved S Rotchford road so access is easy to trailer off road vehicles in. The drive way is a little challenging to back a trailer in but my son is an excellent driver and used to backing our 30 ' trailer and was able to get in the drive. When and if we come back to The Black Hills, The Alpine Prairie Lodge will be on our short list of lodging options.

The ‘lodge’ was perfect for our group of four women. Roomy, everything you need to prepare your meals and great proximity to all the major sites you’d want to see. We saved Badlands for the morning of our departure since it was more convenient to combine that bit of sightseeing with proximity to the airport. Our hosts were very accommodating with requests for outside card playing & lounging and binoculars for wildlife sightings. Check out the panoramic view from Flag Mountain viewable to the west. Bit of a rough road but our rent Chrysler Pacifica made it just fine (ATV better suited). The grill was easy to use and move from under the porch during an evening meal of grilled veggies and butterflied pork loin. Star gazing or enjoying an evening thunderstorm from the deck, hot tub (immaculate), or graveled drive were all part of the unique and magical experience this home and location offer.

We had a great week at the Alpine Prairie Lodge! We enjoyed the view and the privacy. It had everything we needed plus extra condiments we didn’t think we needed. The kids couldn’t wait to get back to the cabin each late afternoon/evening. We made supper every night and somehow, even though we make the same things at home, food tastes better in the mountains. We enjoyed the hot tub each night, and also connected as a family and played hide and seek when it got dark.

Loved everything about this wonderful cabin. We had everything we needed. Great location. Enjoyed the little chipmunks as well as the beautiful wildflowers! Sitting on the deck every morning was peaceful and relaxing. Hope we’ll be able to stay again sometime.

This is a great place to stay. Lots of room for many people. Close to Rochford, mountain meadows and Hill City. We fished, ATV’d, Biked, hot tub’d and so much more. We can’t wait to come back and see the new road.

The house set in the middle of mostly pine trees provided much quietness and relaxation. The hot tub was perfect after our long days of hiking. The kitchen was well stocked with the necessary cooking and dining supplies. The house was large enough that 8 adults were never in each other’s way. The only downside to our visit was that our destinations either to the various tourist areas or to the closest town for groceries took minimally 30 minutes, so one needs to plan accordingly. We would definitely book this house again!

We didnt get much time to just relax but it was great to be able to relax on the deck and watch the world go by. Breakfast and supper were easily prepared in the convenient kitchen, we served buffet style and enjoyed everyones company at the large dining room table :) The 4 cousins enjoyed being outside and even picked wild raspberries!. A big thank you to our hosts for offering such a wonderful home for our family to be together. We made a trip to Flag Mountain and did some geo caching. We love the Black Hills!!

It was awesome. The house was perfect. The dirt road with construction was a pain but would rent the house again.
