North Conway, New Hampshire
Welcome to the UpCountry Guest House. This beautiful center hall colonial home and guest house was built at the turn of the century. Our Austrian grandfather bought it in the 1950's for our family to gather and to ski at Cranmore Mountain using the Alberg technique brought from Austria by Hannes Schneider in the late 1930's. Our grandparents and parents had been skiing in the area as far back as the 1920's at a ski tow in Jackson at the Spruce Mountain Lodge. We would like to welcome you to share in the memories of this beautiful area and the comfort of our home.
The guest house has an open concept first floor that includes an updated kitchen, a cozy entertaining area centered around the fireplace and a dining area with beautiful views of the of the property and the Moat Mts. It has a large picture window at the sink that looks onto the fieldstone patio in the back of the property. It is tastefully decorated with antiques and a bit of memorabilia from the area. The upstairs has two bedrooms, a King size bed in one and a Queen in another. The bathroom has a traditional tub/shower combo.
The guest house is on the left side of the main house attached by a breezeway. A family member will always be at the property to welcome you and to answer any questions regarding the area and the many amenities.
It is a quick few minutes walk to the charming village that has fabulous restaurants and boutique shops. The famous outlets are a few minutes drive south down Route 16. Cranmore is 1/2 a mile away, a great family mountain that provides many types of outdoor activity and entertainment. Wildcat, Attitash and Bretton Woods ski areas are 15-30 minutes north.
There are many cross country trails throughout the area, rock and ice climbing, ice skating, snow shoeing, snowmobiling and just about any other outdoor activity you can imagine. The area is a winter wonderland!
In the summer, there are several golf courses, lakes and rivers to swim, kayak or canoe. White Mountain National Forest has a large network of hiking trails and huts. There is Storyland for families and many other attractions. We call it La La Land!
We look forward to your visit and will accommodate any of your needs.
Good location , excellent host , comfortable bed and nice size bedrooms and the wood fireplace makes it a wonderful place to relax at the end of the day. Recommendations: earlier check in ( 3pm ) is standard whereas 5 pm is unusual , a stove top unit ; curtains at the windows without them on the first level and the window near the counter needs to be replaced. Overall we enjoyed our stay and it has the potential to be outstanding.
Very relaxing. Hospitality was exceptional!
Great place, enjoyed the stay.
Great location near downtown North Conway and ski slopes! Warm and cozy property- we enjoyed our visit.
We arrived in town about 2:30. We texted the owner Doug about getting in before five. He responded an hour and a half later, said his phone was off he was on the golf course., but go ahead…. We went to the unit close to 5:00 pm and unpacked. The refrig. And microwave were not clean, in fact the entire unit and the outside patio are in need of a serious cleaning. The carpets smell like pet pee and is not a pleasant smell. The owner said there was poison ivy outside, of course our puppies got into some apparently and gave it to my wife…. The puppies also came home with fleas which they have never had before. We had to stop and get flea shampoo and bathe them before they could come into our home in Conn. It was a very trying experience and we will not be staying at this unit again. Doug is a really personable guy but even when we expressed the desire to sit outside he did not clean the patio or patio table. The place looks great in pictures but in reality if you can not enjoy the space because it is too dirty, pictures should not be posted. The location was walkable to town and the space has potential but really needs some very serious cleaning.
Great location, very comfy setup. We really enjoyed spending time in front of the fireplace. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again. Hosts were super friendly/helpful.
Nice location, great host, cozy house we enjoyed being i
Wonderful! We left wishing we had booked a longer stay. The host was amazing, always available and also very good about respecting our privacy. Hoping we can come back soon?
Great location, cozy, comfortable, great host.
The host greeted us at check-in and gave is a quick tour of the place. The place was clean and organized. The location is perfect, with being walking distance to the mountain and downtown. Will definitely consider staying again when we are in the area.
We had a lovely stay at this home. It’s just as described and on a beautiful property. We particularly loved the wood-burning fireplace on a cold, rainy day! Communication was great, and the house was very cozy. The kitchen wasn’t huge, but it’s functional. Apparently there are some black bears nearby, but we didn’t have any issues (just make some noise when you go outside). Very dog-friendly space. We’d definitely come back! Thanks for a great stay!
