New Auburn, Wisconsin
Located across the road from Lower Long Lake, our private guesthouse is a complete one- bedroom apartment nestled in the woods on the north side of crystal-clear Lower Long Lake. Built in 2005 there is over 750 square feet of elbow room for you to enjoy. Sleep in or enjoy some solitude for writing, retreating, etc., or enjoy all the recreational area has to offer, including fishing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, biking, snowmobiling, area fish fries, live music and so much more. No loud motors, boats or fish houses being backed into the lake just outside your door or party goers outside your windows since we're set back off the lake and in the woods on almost 10 acres. Close enough however to carry a canoe or kayak to the landing and start your day on the lake in just minutes!
One of the most notable features of this guesthouse is a fully furnished eat-in kitchen with full-size appliances to prepare your meals (stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, Keurig Duo, French Press and tea kettle). Dishes, glassware, pots and pans are all included. Not interested in making your own meals No worries! There are several local establishments happy to feed you that also have live music, incredible desserts and local flavor.
Afterward, relax in your own living room, enjoying the glow and warmth from the electric fireplace on cooler Fall or Winter evenings, your feet also kept toasty from the in-floor heat. High speed internet connection means you can bring your passwords for Roku, Netflix, etc., and watch your favorite TV shows and movies or grab one of the books available and nestle in on rainy days. Charging stations exist in the living room as well as the bedroom for your convenience. A writer's desk beckons you to start that book you've been meaning to write or check your laptop for incoming messages. The sleeper sofa is available for additional guests along with a foam topper provided to assure comfort. A roll-away twin bed is also available.
The bedroom's foam-topped queen-sized bed and lots of pillows welcomes you after a long day on the lake, snowmobiling, hiking or biking. Unpack your suitcase, hanging your clothes in the spacious closets or tucking them in the bedroom dresser. A wall-mounted, remote controlled fireplace offers ambience, along with a faux fur throw blanket. Turn off your alarms, open the window and let Mother Nature tell you what time it is. Listen for the doves and loons in the morning and the owls at night.
UPDATE: 1/5/24: We are currently in the process of upgrading/redecorating our Guesthouse! Photos may not be current. Feel free to ask for most current pics or feel excited to be pleasantly surprised upon your arrival. We are attempting to keep the descriptions accurate during this project. All work is done between guest stays so your visit with us will remain private and uninterrupted.
Your private bathroom includes a shower, medicine cabinet, pedestal sink, toilet, linen closet and all bath, kitchen and bedroom linens are furnished, as are soaps, conditioner, shower gel, toilet paper and facial tissues.
Enjoy sipping something on your private deck among the trees, keeping an eye out for deer, rabbits, turkeys and other woodland residents. Enjoy the screened in gazebo on the deck if you'd like.
Sit around the large fire pit in the courtyard, roasting marshmallows and telling tall fish stories in the evening. During the day the courtyard can be a great place to watch the charm of hummingbirds whiz by as they sip from the feeders on the front of the chalet.
Go for a walk on the long windy roads, the miles of hiking trails, and take the picnic blanket and basket you'll find in the guesthouse closet with you.
Lower Long Lake is across the street, and is well-known for its crystal-clear water, home to walleyes, muskies, bass and lots of pan fish. There's room for you to bring your boat and park it on our property while you're here. A lesser known boat landing is literally across the road, so put your boat in, drive your trailer back to the guesthouse and don't worry about navigating a parking lot full of boats & trailers when you return!

Our guesthouse is perfect for couples and individuals wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; for writers, honeymooners (ask about our wedding, honeymoon and anniversary packages or elopements), those seeking personal retreat space, or those looking for a jumping-off place to enjoy all that the Blue Diamond resort area has to offer with festivals, music, outdoor recreation and so much more. Across the courtyard from the guesthouse is Basswood Chalet. Basswood Chalet is an Old World European style chalet with a 25 foot river rock fireplace in the main room of the house. Basswood Chalet is available for smaller, more intimate weddings, elopements and ceremonies, small meetings and photo shoots. It does not accept overnight guests at this time.
The onsite services of a seminary-trained, fully ordained interfaith minister, mediator/arbitrator, photographer, videographer and keyboardist are available. Ceremonies can be held in front of the 25 foot river rock fireplace, on the chalet's wraparound deck, in the courtyard, in the forest or at the boat landing across the road. Guest list size is limited to preserve the natural woods, marshland and wildlife of Basswood Chalet & Guesthouse.
There is a fiber internet connection in the chalet for those wishing to host small meetings in a more cozy environment, such as executive board meetings and small catered dinners. The kitchen and formal dining area is available for licensed caterers to assemble and serve meals.
Sorry, no smoking and no guest pets. If you're missing the lovin's of a dog (or two), our three residents, Tucker (a Brittany spaniel), Tucson (Tucker's son) and Priya (a miniature schnauzer) are always willing to fill in.
High quality, battery-operated candles are provided for your use in the guesthouse during your stay as well as a gas grill - please leave regular candles, as well as tabletop and other grills at home.
Sorry, we are not handicap accessible at this time.
Very neat and clean. In a beautiful setting in the woods. Nice Hosts. The only negative was the bed. Definitely time for a new mattress
Quiet and peaceful
Lovely setting, comfy bed(even the pullout couch was cushy comfy for my sister), and a great place to unwind after a long day at my family reunion! I'll be back to enjoy a couples getaway there...so much wildlife and starwatching up there!
Relaxing visit overall. Some extenuating circumstances caused some difficulties, but the manager worked with us and all went well. We would definitely stay there again.
Dave And Ronnie's up north retreat was exactly what we were looking for. Clean comfortable and in a beautiful location. We definitely plan on returning in the future. Thanks!
We enjoyed our stay! We were looking for a quiet place to celebrate our anniversary. It was near the Ice Age Trail for hiking, and we enjoyed exploring the area. The fall colors were in peak season, and we enjoyed being able to see them right outside the window! We will be back! This was such a nice area to visit, and Dave and Ronnie were excellent hosts!
Lovely place to stay and very convenient to the lake.
This guesthouse was just as advertised, and was the perfect fit for our weekend ice fishing. Top notch hospitality preceded by quick, complete communication by the owners. Tap water was very strong tasting, but our hosts had some bottled water ready for us just in case it wasn't to our liking. Then we bought our own. Would stay again if head in that direction again.
Wife and I stayed 5 nights. Very spacious and private for 2 people. Great views of the woods. Plenty of parking for vehicle and small trailer. A lot of fun eating places nearby.
Very secluded and quiet.
