Stayed Nov 7, 2019We had a really enjoyable stay with Louise and Abel in this accommodation; in all, for just under three weeks. The cosy rooms were cleaned by Sisla who serviced the rooms every day except Sunday, paying meticulous attention to detail. Louise and Abel were always on site as their home adjoins the three units they rent out, and they are always accessible in case something crops up. In our case, one of us sustained a nasty flesh wound on the rocks by the ocean and Louise escorted us to the appropriate clinic … exemplary attention. Our most grateful thanks here. The accommodation is about a five minute safe walk away from the nearest (good) shops for provisions and anything else you might require, and ten minutes’ walk from Hermanus’ 12 km long cliff path, which is security patrolled. The views from this are superb. You walk amongst coastal fynbos vegetation, unique to only a small part of the Western Cape; of great interest to anyone interested in the environment or gardening. There are more species within the fynbos than in the entire UK, and these are best seen in the nature reserve and botanical garden, about a ten minute drive away. Here, the bush walks into the hills occupied a lot of our time. At the eastern end of the cliff walk lies Grotto Beach, which must rival the best anywhere in the world (and we have seen many!) and is several kilometres long. Bush walks, cliff walks, beach walks; plenty of opportunities, if walking is your preference. Otherwise it is a perfect place to ‘veg out’, or to try the numerous excellent restaurants. Venture a little further afield and you are into totally different landscapes. Cape Town and its airport are only a 110-120 km drive away, and easily reached by car. In short, Hermanus and its surrounding area are a perfect holiday destination. This accommodation is extremely good value and very convenient as a base within the town no matter what your preferred activities are.
