Vashon, Washington
This is the perfect vacation spot whether you're traveling thousands of miles or simply doing a stay-cation in Western Washington. Located on rural Vashon Island--situated strategically in Puget Sound between the cities of Seattle & Tacoma, this beautiful waterfront cottage allows you to soak up the rhythms of the forest & the sea and yet be close to the urban attractions of the area. Observe the rich bird life on land and the salmon, seals, river otters, porpoises and occasional whales as they swim & play in the waters at your front door.
The cottage is totally private from its neighbors but open to the sea. It has a cirque of large Douglas fir & Madrona trees to the north & east and is open to the view of Puget Sound, the Point Defiance Preserve and Gig Harbor to the south and southwest. All of the day rooms and one of the bedrooms afford views of the sound and of the ferry, Chetzemoka, which makes the run between Vashon and Pt Defiance each hour during the day. The cottage is hidden from the street above and affords wonderful privacy. At low tide you can cruise the beach and reward yourself with awesome views of Mt Rainier. Meteorologists will tell you that this sunny southern location gets an average of 10 inches less rain per year than the northern part of the island.

The 1200 sq ft cottage was completely renovated over the last several years and offers an array of outdoor living spaces, a beautiful bath and lovely bedrooms in addition to the charming kitchen, living & dining rooms. The side of the house has two sets of french doors which open onto two view decks (600 sf). There are numerous smaller viewing decks and a 500 sf patio at the water's edge. All these spaces feature comfortable, high quality outdoor furniture. You may never want to go indoors during your stay.
The stony beach is reached by descending a few steps from the property’s bulkhead. Fruit trees, grasses and landscaping have recently been added.
During the day you can observe the hummingbirds, tanagers, herons, eagles & other seabirds, along with the plentiful sealife. At night listen for the sounds of the animals drifting across the silence of Puget Sound from the Pt. Defiance Zoo. Beyond its natural beauty, Vashon Island also offers a thriving arts community and everyday amenities such as an excellent supermarket, bakeries and numerous restaurants. This is truly a splendid spot where you can relax on the shores of Puget Sound but be close to everything on island and have easy access to cities from Olympia to Seattle.

Wonderful stay, great communication and hospitality! Very charming cottage with stunning views! Conveniently located near ferry.
Loved this cottage! Highly recommend it if you are looking for a place to hunker down and chill out steps from the Pt Defiance - Vashon ferry. Beautiful views of the sound and the outdoor spaces are amazing. Comfy chairs throughout for relaxing while looking at the water. My only warning would be to those who can’t handle stairs as there are 2 flights to the front door and then multiple flights to the various decks. The host is super helpful and friendly and we had a great time.
Can’t say enough great things about this property. Cozy, comfortable and in a perfect location. Owner was very helpful throughout our stay.
This was our third year at Clam Cove. The owners are super nice and very responsive. This year we enjoyed long walks along the water at Cape Defiance, dinner at Anthony’s, massages at The Barton Inn. But the most fun is just relaxing on the decks, with wine and books, long naps in the nook and peaceful sleeps. This years property upgrades were most appreciated. We feel spoiled every time!
The hosts / restorers of this delightful home were gracious and accessible without being intrusive. It's hard to get more Vashon than the spectacular views of the ferry coming and going, and the indoor/outdoor living spaces are a magical combination of old and new. We enjoyed naps in the comfortable chairs, peeking out across the daybed/reading nook, and when the sun came out, sitting in the full color spectrum on the deck looking out at water, ferry and green trees. A pair of kingfishers was surprised to see us on the lower patio at sunset, but just kept right on fishing. Thank you for having us!
Nothing to make the reader wade through here, as is my wont in these reviews; suffice it to say the others are spot-on. (Great location, convenience, beds, etc!!) Only one small contribution: we thought the ferry might be loud or annoying but not at all. It’s so quiet and, yes, fascinating to watch maneuvering in the varying tides and currents, as well as use to leisurely note your idle hours slipping (!) by.
What a lovely place for our 20th anniversary. The cottage is charming and the views and decks spectacular. We enjoyed watching the ferry and all the boats. It's located at the quiet southern end of the island. Great take-out from The Hardware Store and May Kitchen in town. Vashon Island is a beautiful getaway from the city and Bruce and Tom are excellent hosts.
The cottage was fabulous. It had all the amenities necessary for a relaxing stay. The outdoor spaces were amazing. We spent most of our time outdoors.
as good or better than we were expecting.
My family and I had a wonderful time here! The views of the water and ferry were stunning and we saw eagles, seals and lots of seagulls from the back porch. The kitchen was very well stocked... the house as well with books and games. This was the perfect place to relax and escape the Texas heat. Hopping on and off the south ferry was so convenient, especially by foot. The town of Vashon was quaint and had some delicious food and cute shops. Driving to Seattle downtown was a little ways, but worth it and do-able for a daily excursion. We highly recommend this cottage and want to come again very soon!
We had the most amazing time at this perfect house. It was exactly as advertised. The house is updated enough to be comfortable, but hasn't lost the original charm. With enough modern conveniences like new appliances, Netflix, comfy beds, nice linens, and nice cookware, we were able to concentrate on what really mattered - the water, the view, the hummingbirds, the herons, the seals, the naps, the noshing and the cocktails. The water view from the decks and the light streaming in was so relaxing, we only budged from the house a couple of times. We walked to the ferry to Tacoma, ferried to Seattle, and went to town for lunch and groceries. Bruce and Tom were the perfect hosts. Tom met us at the house and spent a few minutes explaining the quirks. He left before we noticed the homemade cookies and fresh cut flowers welcoming us. They struck just the right balance of communication. We felt like we were staying with family and we hope to make this an annual trip. Thanks to you both!
