Stayed Jan 24, 2026This was our second visit to Buttercrags Cottage and it was as wonderful as the previous stay. The cottage is large and comfortable with plenty of beds for a large group. The kitchen is well equipped and has plenty of cooking and dining supplies for a long stay. The sitting room is comfortable with a nice gas fireplace and plenty of games and puzzles. The host is very responsive to any needs. The highlight of the cottage is the marvelous location. The cottage is literally a two minute walk to the center of town, the Coop for groceries, and several coffee shops and restaurants. It is a 5 minute walk to Wordsworth's grave and other sights in Grasmere. There are dozens of wonderful hikes accessible without having to drive.Surprising for such an accessible location, the cottage feels very secluded and private. It is tucked away behind the town streets with a very peaceful location next to the river. There is parking for three cars and a beautiful outdoor seating area overlooking the river. It is a very quiet location insulated from the often busy town.As the listing notes, the upper floor is only accessible by a steep set of stairs and might not be appropriate for those with mobility issues. I love the upper room which houses a very large suite and had no trouble with the stairs. This is one of our favorite all time rentals. We will be back.

Stayed Aug 8, 2025It was a fantastic week of stay at Grasmere. The cottage has mostly everything a family would need. Martin, the owner was very responsive with our queries and accommodating. There were enough utensils to cook and cutleries. The rooms are deceptively spacious, pictures don't really give justice. The beds are surprisingly comfy although some of the pillow casings and beddings would benefit from fabric conditioner. Hot and cold shower was good, though there was a time it stopped working due to a fuse problem but was fixed the following day by the owner. The bath would have been a plus but unfortunately was not in working condition as stated. There were also a smart tv at the living room, main bedroom and the attic. There was also a tv at the room with the bunk beds though it was not smart one. The outdoor sitting was great too especially when it was sunny to have breakfast, tea and dinner by the river. Parking enough for 2 to 3 cars though it would be sometimes difficult to get out if there were other cars parked from other cottages that blocked the driveway. Overall, it was in a fantastic location, close to cafes, restaurants, a coop for the basic needs, playground for the kids, and the river is also accessible along the walk/pathway. There was also an available charger for electric vehicles although you would need a 3 pin cable. A bit of suggestion:Clocks would be nice

Stayed Jan 30, 2025We had a wonderful stay at Buttercrag Cottage. The cottage was spacious and clean, and the location was perfect. As noted in the description it is very close to the center of town, a very short walk to all the shops and restaurants, and just around the corner from the Coop for groceries. But being tucked away behind things next to the river also makes it very quiet and peaceful. There is parking for three cars and a private outdoor seating area overlooking the river. From the house itself you almost feel like you are out in the country. The cottage has a large, well equipped kitchen and a sitting room on the ground floor. The first floor has two bedrooms (one double bed and one set of bunk beds) and a bath. As noted in the description, there is a third bedroom and bath on the second floor up a steep flight of steps. I had no problems with the steps but caution is advised for anyone with mobility issues. The second floor room itself is beautiful and spacious with two beds and a large bath. With a full kitchen and laundry facilities you could easily host a large group very cheaply.Martin was an excellent host and responded quickly with any questions. Check in and check out were very easy and simple. One nice aspect of staying in Grasmere is that there were tons of hikes within an easy walk of the cottage. We only moved the car a few times while we were there and mostly just enjoyed the village and the surrounding countryside. We will definitely return when we get a chance.

Stayed Dec 27, 2024We had a great stay at this property in Grasmere. The owner was very helpful and fast to reply to our enquiry. The property was in a perfect location for lovely local walks in the beautiful area of Grasmere, Silver How and Rydal, plus very handy for trips to local shops and for meals out. Property was well equipped, with more space than we expected from the listing pictures. Also lovely and warm with cosy gas fire and lots of hot water for post-fell walks.

Stayed Jul 28, 2023Ideal for spending time in and around Grasmere; the river path is on the doorstep. The host was very responsive and available if we needed him. Be aware that the master bedroom, with the shower, is in the attic up a steep set of stairs.

Stayed Aug 26, 2022No problems at all in communication and location is fantastic. Property was very well equipped, and garden area was private despite the central location. The property is a little dated, and a couple of things weren’t working like the jacuzzi bath and hob ignition but they could easily be rectified. I would also recommend replacing the wardrobe in the bunk bed room with a tall set of drawers or something more practical. Overall the cottage and the week was very enjoyable and the access to the local hotel pool was an excellent added extra. Thanks again to Martin
