Hamilton, Montana
The Cottage is the newest lease on life for what was once an old bunkhouse behind our historic 1895 Victorian Farmhouse, on our working farm, Farmstead Hollow (farmsteadhollow.com). Two beautiful miles outside of Hamilton MT, the drive into the Bitterroot Mountains to the cottage is one of stunning views and well maintained, easy to access asphalt roads.
We have completely gutted and remodeled the bunkhouse (including a brand new heated slab floor), reinventing it as a charming 850 sq/ft house. The Cottage has a full kitchen and bathroom, including washer and dryer, and is fully functional, comfortable, and ready for guests. On the ground floor is the master bedroom with a comfortable Queen bed. Upstairs in the loft are an additional three twin beds.
The Cottage is tucked in behind our house, accessed by it's own driveway. There are no windows on the side of The Cottage that faces our house, while the sides that look out onto our peaceful pasturage are nearly entirely window - so the feeling is of seclusion and privacy.
A small privacy fenced yard completes the cozy retreat theme.
Our barnyard is home to a menagerie of farm animals. The Cottage is separated and well fenced off from the busy goings on of the livestock and their caretakers, but at certain times of the day, animal sounds might be heard from the patio and yard area and perhaps even from inside of the cottage.
We personally love the sounds of baaing sheep, clucking hens or grunting pigs, and hope that the occasional animal call that drifts over to the cottage yard brings a smile to our human guests.
The animals are locked up in the barns at night and kept safe and quiet until 7:00 am each morning. Breakfast time on the farm can be a flurry of joyful (demanding) animal hustle and bustle - including our rooster Rolly, who likes to start his days with a flurry of self-important crowing. It usually lasts a minute or two, then he's over it except for a rare crow here or there throughout the day.
Evening feeding times are a similar event, before everyone is closed in the barn for a quiet night.
We have one distant neighbor - the only part of his house that can be seen from The Cottage is an upstairs attic window.
Very flexible check-in and check-out times.
Amazing owners! Very clean rental and accomodations.
This cottage is located on a small working farm in a quiet area of Hamilton. Easy access. Nice views. Deer in the meadow in the evening and morning. Cottage was comfortable and clean. Megan and Brian were awesome hosts. They are available when needed but stay out of the picture to provide their guests a peaceful and private stay. The heated floors were a bonus on the chilly mornings. I know it is all individual but we found the bed to be comfortable. Their rooster crowed at the appropriate time but is barely heard inside and did not disturb us at all. Can't remember the breed but they raise a type of pig. We enjoyed feeding the adults and piglets apples but not as much as they enjoyed eating them. Don't worry, there is no strong barnyard odor. We will stay there again given the opportunity.
Clean, quite and close to Hamilton.
Nice welcome, cute little house, beautiful deck & views of deer grazing, turkeys meandering by!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was wonderful, equally suitable for a couple or a family, and well stocked. The hosts excelled at the balance between being available and welcoming hosts and allowing us privacy. The property was very pet friendly and our dog, Maggie loved it. The property is close enough to Hamilton to be convenient but far enough from town to feel private. Overall, a great spot to explore all the valley has to offer.
It was a bit run down compared to the online pictures.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I was visiting Montana for a big family event. This little cottage was a refuge for me, a quiet place to decompress from all the activity.
Fantastic place to get away for some peace and quiet, but still less than 10 minutes from Hamilton. Friendly owners that are there if you need anything, but also leave you alone to just enjoy the place and surroundings. We'll definitely be back.
The cottage was everything I expected from the pictures. It is like an English country cottage. The owners were friendly and accommodating. I sat outside in the evening and read, watching the deer in the meadow. It was peaceful and comfortable. I would definitely stay again…
Cottage was very comfortable and well appointed. Wonderful mattress (we both slept so well!) and washer/dryer was a bonus. Deer in the meadow at dusk and dawn next to the cottage, magical when you open the front door. Very quiet retreat with a rushing stream when you opened the French doors off the living room, bedroom and dining area. We will stay again.
Beautiful cottage on the edge of a meadow with all the amenities of home. With beautiful mountain views. You felt secluded but was actually close to town and all the things you would want to do. We had a very enjoyable stay. The hosts were very nice and welcoming.
Comfortable stay
Cute little guest house on owners property, had everything we needed, beautiful setting in the Bitterroots, easy access from the highway, highly recommend!
Amazing place to stay, delightful hosts and a comfortable cottage! I really want to return someday soon!
My husband, 17 year old son, two dogs, and myself had the pleasure of an extended stay in this well-appointed private cabin. We were in the process of relocating from out of state and waiting to close on our new home. Megan and Brian were extremely open to working with our schedule. Being winter, the weather can have a significant impact on business being delayed. Our hosts were gracious, easily accessible to us, and very respectful. During our stay we were treated tho some very cold, snowy Montana weather. The roads and driveway were promptly plowed and access was readily maintained. Our hosts also went above and beyond to check in us and give us road condition updates. The accomodations were accurately represented and very user friendly. Wifi was speedy. My husband and son were easily able to continue with their respective work and school. The kitchen made meal preparations easy, and many markets are nearby. The fences, private yard was appreciated. We would have loved to have used the gas grill, but unfortunately it was February. I highly recommend this property, and truly can't say enough about the thoughtful consideration of our hosts.
Our stay was everything advertised! It was peaceful, cozy and so comfortable! The cottage was everything we needed to unwind and destress from our hectic lives for a few days. The fact we had a fenced in area just for our pup made it even better. Megan and Brian were wonderful hosts! Did I mention the pigs? You have to see their pigs!
This delightful cottage is nestled amongst the trees with beautiful views in every direction. We stayed eleven nights at Farmstead Hollow and enjoyed every minute. The melodious barnyard animals entertained us daily, the family dogs were adorable, and each evening the white-tailed deer put on a magnificent show in the meadow. The cottage itself was very clean and cozy with a well-equipped kitchen. The bed was super comfy, the bathroom spacious, and the fenced-in yard was a super bonus for us since we had our beagle in tow. Sitting on the front porch with our morning coffee watching and listening to the farm awaken was such a treat! Megan and Brian were terrific hosts and great people. They made sure we had everything we needed and made themselves available if we had questions. We were sad to leave and would definitely go back.
Loved this place! Perfect location and cute place to stay! It was perfect for us.
Very cozy. Small and comfortable. Combination of modern and rustic. Loved the fenced yard. Close to what’s going on in the area. We would return
I travel a lot with my dog and often stay in vacation rental homes all over the country. This cottage on a farm near Hamilton is one of my favorites. We’ve stayed here twice now. It is on a pleasant small working farm, the owner’s home is nearby but the cottage is quite private. The little fenced in backyard has nice views of mountains to the west and with a deck, grill and patio seating is serene and peaceful, and a big plus when traveling with a dog, since it’s often hard to find vacation homes with fenced in yards suitable for dogs. The farm animals include sheep, chickens and pigs – they are interesting to watch. Cottage has good air conditioning, which is important even in Montana in summer months these days. Location is rural up next to the mountains but you’re only about 10 minutes from Hamilton, main town in the area, and less than an hour from Missoula the major city in western Montana. Owners are wonderful people, responsive if or when you need them, otherwise they leave you to your peace in the little cottage. Overall, charming wonderful place, great for single person or a couple, especially if you are traveling with a dog.
Quaint cottage on the edge of town has beautiful views and a rustic setting. We enjoyed our time here. The property owner was very easy to work with and accommodating. We enjoyed our experience.
