Everything about Sarsgrum was superb--easy check in, lovely house well furnished, and spectacular views. We stayed over in January just after a big snow, and the landscape was stunning. At night, the stars were also amazing. Durness is a perfect place for a get away, and Sarsgrum provided a comfortable and easy location. Gillie and Lin were wonderful hosts.

Fantastic holiday blessed with sunny days! The house is beautiful and extremely well equipped. From the kitchen table you have the most amazing view over the Kyle of Durness and we were able to spot sea eagles and seals whilst enjoying breakfast. The dark skies enabled us to do some star gazing and best of all we got to see the Northern Lights! Lots of games and books to keep you occupied, walks straight from the house down the coast and a short drive to stunning white sand beaches. The hosts Gillie, David, Lin and Bob were very friendly and helpful and kept us topped up with logs. Highly recommended!

The location is stunning and exactly as advertised on the website. The kitchen is well appointed and the wood burner is supplied with a quantity of wood that will last a week, which was appreciated. We arrived at the house at about 18:30 on the Saturday night and were shocked how cold it was. The arrival time is stated from 17:00. There was no heating left on so we had to put the radiators on quite high just to get some heat into the place. We found the windows and doors quite draughty which was frustrating when you are paying to heat the house. We were aware that there was a charge for electricity when we booked the house but were quite surprised that it cost 100 for a week. We only heated the main bedroom and the kitchen/sitting room and used the oven and cooker and dishwasher daily. The ‘snug’ was cold and with it being away from the wood burner we only used the TV in there once as we didn’t want to heat another room. The lounge and kitchen were very homely but I felt the upstairs was very sparsely decorated. We have stayed in many cottages in Scotland and this had one of the best locations but I think because of the reasons mentioned above I wouldn’t choose to stay again.

Property was lovely in a beautiful area of the world. Stunning location and views you will never forget. However, unfortunately our dealings with the owner post-holiday have not been pleasant. We have been accused of either losing, damaging or disposing of a singular cushion which they have felt compelled to try and charge us for. We have raised a dispute with VRBO over this. She has changed mind between missing and damage in her messages which is a little suspect.Owner's cleaner also let themselves in to do gardening when we were out and owner also showed up unannounced during the holiday. Thankfully dogs were inside but had they been out there would've been little opportunity to secure them.Bring your own kitchen roll, extra toilet paper and I would also advise your own towels as you are given one rather tired and small towel apiece. Also beware extra charges in small-print when booking- electric is charged per unit used. And if you are taking your dogs, don't let them brush against furniture or malt as thats inviting additional cleaning charges.I am afraid I have to leave two stars- as beautiful and stunning as the location is, the experiences with the owner have soured the experience and memories.

Due to circumstances beyond our hosts control we didn't stay in this property however Gillie found us an alternative property nearby which was perfect for our stay. We loved being up near Durness and looking over the sands just like this property. Spent our days birdwatching, cooking and walking on the beautiful white sand beaches or round the local lochs. We found an excellent static food truck - Loch Clash Larder near Kinlochbervie which sold the days catch - fresh langoustines and haddock on the day we visited and a local smokerie near Oldshoremore Beach.

The location of this home was breathtaking and it had almost everything needed to make it feel like home. We had a cool and rainy day so the fireplace in the living room was perfect. Just remember to bring your own tea and coffee. The kitchen was nicely stocked but didn’t have some of the essentials that our group needed.

Beautifully remote and effortlessly managed, Gillie and Lin had a fantastic approach to ensuring everything about our Christmas stay was truly magical. Photos can't do the property and it's surroundings justice - you have to see it to believe it - and we couldn't recommend it more if we tried. We can't wait to come back for beach walks, swims and seafood; what an incredible experience.

Lovely cosy stay, weather forced us indoors a few times, hardly unexpected given the time of year. We made the most of the area and got out for some fantastic walks. Unfortunately the shops and restaurants were closed on the whole because of new year and also weather, so plan accordingly! We made the decision not to bother with winter tyres which was fine, the road is gritted daily throughout winter. The views from the window in the kitchen are phenomenal and we were lucky enough to see the northern lights on one occasion. If you do happen to travel up in mid winter as we did, bear in mind there may be power cuts, we had one while we were there. The log burner kept us warm and we did manage to cook on top of it, however this is not easy and it wouldn't hurt to bring a camping stove as a backup. Looking forward to returning at some stage!

The window looking out to the Kyle's of Durness - we could have watched it all day. Such an incredible view. We loved this house - everything about it was perfect for us. So cosy, great kitchen, comfortable bed and so much natural light. We did some gorgeous walks and enjoyed the beautiful beaches as well as buying fish from the local van on Wednesday morning. We'd love to return!
