Walk to New Hope!
Situated on one of Bucks County's most fabled properties in the historic hamlet of Phillips' Mill, PA and just 1 mile from downtown New Hope, PA. sits this private Medieval English village. Renowned architect, painter, wood worker, and iron worker, Morgan Colt built this extraordinary English village at the turn of the 20th century to be his residence.

Located in the middle of our little English village is your romantic one bedroom Gothic cottage. As you walk through the village, you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time and you're now in England 900 years ago. The Gothic Cottage has a Living Room, Bedroom with skylight (all fresh bed linens are provided for you), full Kitchen (small) with Spanish tile (kitchen is stocked with all pots, pans and cooking utensils and coffee for the Keurig coffee maker. Full Bathroom that comes complete with fresh towels... for your stay.

Relax And Enjoy: Step down into the sunken Italian garden and enjoy a glass of wine while you watch the sun set. This area has loads of great restaurants, wineries, art galleries, museums, antique stores, live music , theater and cabarets, boat rides, bike trails, old steam engine train rides... (See about our second cottage) Note: Please don't inquire about one night stays.)

Relax and enjoy a glass of your favorite wine in the sunken Italian garden: Four large ornate stone pedestals were imported from a palace in Italy by Morgan Colt in the early 1900's and barged up the canal to Colt's residence where they have been standing at each corner of the sunken Italian garden for the last 100 years.

If you don't feel like cooking dinner, just walk out your door, down the cast-stone walkway, through the beautiful garden courtyards and through the large Medieval iron gates, where you will come upon The Inn at Phillip's Mill, also built by Morgan Colt and arguably 'the most romantic restaurant in all of Bucks County' (For weekend dining, you must call ahead for reservations. Note: Once you have booked your stay at The Gothic Cottage, we will provide you with an information packet about your stay that will also contain the restaurant's reservation phone number. (Note: Sorry but we ABSOLUTELY can't do one night stays)

Secluded yet so close to so much: This is a great location aprox 1 mile north of downtown New Hope, and Lambertville which are famous for their numerous fine art galleries, wineries, great shopping destinations, antique stores, polo, great restaurants, boat rides, walking trails, bike trails, live music and live theater at the famous Bucks County Playhouse...

Another high point of staying here is that the village sits on the banks of the beautiful Delaware Canal which gives you instant access to the canal towpath where you can walk, or ride your bikes (1 mile) to historic downtown New Hope, PA, Lambertville or Stockton, NJ. The Gothic Cottage has private off-street parking for you and is available all year round so you can make this your new home away from home. (Note: Sorry but we absolutely can't do one night stays)

The Gothic Cottage is perfect for weekend getaways, week long vacations or temporary lodging and can comfortably accommodate two people. Extended stays, include weekly house cleaning services.

Unique Benefits of this Cottage: If you don’t feel like cooking dinner, just walk out your door, down the cast-stone walkway, through the beautiful private garden courtyards and Medieval iron gates, where you will come upon The Inn at Phillip’s Mill, also built by Morgan Colt and arguably “the most romantic' restaurant in all of Bucks County. This is an opportunity to stay in a very unique little English village. Felt like we were in Europe the hosts are very delightful and friendly. You get a history of the area and a tour of the. Others house which is like a museum. Highlight of that was the upright music box, never have seen anything like it and the sound is beautiful. Our cottage could be called quirky. Low ceiling, little step downs, and lots of interesting art and items to see. But all mod cons you need. Very thoughtful placement of motion activated lights so no one trips on their way to bathroom at night! We were very comfortable there and it’s a very easy drive into new hope. Even had a very friendly next door neighbor. It was just what we needed. Oh and the TV set up is pretty awesome. You can watch anything in any country!

A wonderful stay, it all felt like going back in time in this gothic cottage, Kurt and Eleanor are great hosts, we got the history behind this truly unique village, and its origins, which added to the charm of it all. Wonderful 5 stars.

The host was very welcoming and informative about the history of the gothic village. We just were surprised that the cottage was not very clean. There were webs in the bathroom on the ceiling, with a spider hanging from it. In the corners of the bedroom were dust bunnies. In the kitchen, the smell of propane was very noticeable. We kept the windows partially open to help with that. The little house is charming, and has a great ambiance, but a few things need attention inside. The New Hope area was charming as well.

The cottage was a little smaller than expected, with low ceilings. The grounds were lovely and the hosts were friendly and charming. They provided all the amenities that we needed. The weather made it difficult to take advantage of the towpath into New Hope. All in all, a nice location for a weekend stay

We had a simply wonderful time! Everything about our 5-day stay was fantastic! This charming mini village has worldly charm, like being air-dropped in the middle of the Cotswolds! Kurt and Eleanor are fascinating and intelligent people who are both extraordinarily kind and helpful! I can not recommend this enough! Not just a stay, but a magical experience...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Romantic Gothic Village during a recent trip to Pennsylvania for a friend's wedding. The owner's Kurt and Eleanor were most gracious, gave us a tour of the property, and most importantly, shared all of the historical information of the village and surrounding areas. You truly are in a little English Village and it was magical.

This was a cute, cozy, unique, historic cottage perfect for two. The check-in process was a little complicated for us due to the location. The owners literally need to guide you into the parking lot as it is hidden from the road. That was a little confusing at first, but no problems once we knew where we were going. We came and went easily afterwards. The owners gave us a tour of the village and even invited us into their personal cottage giving us the history of the village and the cottages. Very interesting. The cleaning service did a good job, such as clean bathroom, kitchen, sheets, living space, etc. The only thing I would recommend is a spring cleaning. The historic cottage is in a state of good maintenance repair. The bathroom and shower stall are a bit small (for larger people). Overall, the entire cottage was comfortable and cozy for a romantic getaway. We had a wonderful time and will forever hold our memories dear. It was a unique adventure.

Eleanor and Kurt's Gothic Village is a piece of preserved history of the New Hope, PA artist colony over the last century. The two rental cottages are adorable, but they ARE historic and come with some minor signs of their age (and challenges to ours). The bathroom is tiny, though serviceable, and the kitchen is only modestly equipped. But there is a two burner stove and sink and a small table for two. Kurt is the grandson of a noted artist and full on historical knowledge. He and his mom, Eleanor, are Board members of the New Hope Colony Foundation for the Arts that now owns the several Gothic Village buildings as well as a Foundation center and the soon-to-be-restored Inn at Phillips Mill (currently closed). When restored the Inn will have guestrooms and a major restaurant...back even better than the good old days when we visited the Inn decades ago in another life (as guidebook authors).

The owner met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the property. The atmosphere is fantastic! It's far enough from downtown to be very quiet and peaceful, but close enough to get to restaurants in 5 minutes. The owner had great recommendations for restaurants and things to see. The area was beautiful! I just wish we had direct a free more days here!
