Darien/McIntosh County, immersed in history and surrounded in natural beauty. Explore our rivers, estuaries, undeveloped barrier islands, beaches and natural habitats. We boast one of the world's largest estuarine systems. Darien/McIntosh County is situated in a beautiful, unspoiled, ecological location that is virtually unrivaled in the state for the natural habitats that abound. Here is ‘Nature’s Favorite Coast!” The tidewaters are the nursery of the ocean…tiny shrimp, crustaceans and all species of fish! Spring finds dozens of baby dolphins in the Intra-coastal Waterway, learning to fish with their mothers and pods. Over 350 species of migratory birds can be found here making it a premier birding area. While we know you will find your favorite place in history whether it be Fort King George, Ashantilly or the Old Jail, Butler Plantation and rice fields along with the Huston House mansion, historic old churches, cemeteries, and tabby ruins on the waterfront; our best advice is sure to be dining on local cuisine at one of our restaurants, events or festivals. Sapelo Island makes for a wonderful day trip, but you must plan ahead for the tour and ferry trip. Don't miss Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge. Harris Neck NWR provides premier nesting, foraging, and wintering habitat for a diversity of wildlife. Signature species include threatened wood storks, which nest in a large colony on Woody Pond, and the colorful and uncommon painted bunting. Immerse yourself in a world where flowers bloom in every season, birds and butterflies abound and enjoy the small coastal town interests and environment.
Quiet little guest cottage located on some acreage that adjoins the main house and workshop. Its nicely located close to fishing, restaurants, boat ramps and a quick drive to historical locations. We were hopeful that we would have a view of the marsh, however there was none from the cottage. A short walk back to the main house (providing the family gives the OK) there is an overlook for a great sunset view. Also a short walk for addition beautiful views along the quiet road. Small house provided everything we needed, full kitchen & bath, 1 bedroom and a pull out sofa or enough room for a twin sized air mattress (which we brought for our kid). TV has a DVD player - i mention this because we did not pay attention to that and wish we would've brought some movies. We were only at the cabin at night as we were exploring during the day. Great place for dogs - lots of room to play. We really enjoyed it. (We stayed the week between Christmas and New Years - needed the heat, worked great!)
We had very relaxing stay....so peaceful and quiet! Loved seeing the Georgia deer! Communication with property manager was a breeze. We will be back!
Everything was amazing! The home was beyond perfect, so comfortable and it was just as described. It was easy to find and was convenient to what we needed. The home was clean and had everything we needed. The hosts were very quick to respond, very accommodating and were really helpful. Definitely worth booking! We had a great visit and we will definitely come back to stay again!
Well equipped cute little cottage. Owners and manager very friendly and accommodating
It was a nice out of the way spot that was super quiet. Wish could have stayed longer. Will admit Google doesn't make it easy to find but don't know that's the renter's fault ;) Thank you for everything.
Super quiet but close to everything we wanted to go to! Very cozy
Pleasant one-bedroom house with beautiful oaks towering overhead, close to marshes. Appreciated the remote location while easily being able to take advantage of parks, islands, wildlife refuges and restaurants when we wished.
Nice and peaceful. Great cottage for 1 person
Private, secluded, clean home away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and cities. Peace and quite. Will visit again. Landlords are great.
We enjoyed our two month stay (Jan-Feb) so much that we already booked it for next year. The owners are fantastic. The property is very quiet and peaceful. Plenty of places to walk, ride bike and just enjoy the marsh. Close to Darien, Brunswick and Jekyll Island is about a 45 minute drive at the most. We met a lot of wonderful people and made friendships that I hope last for years.
Nice & relaxing!!!!
