This newly constructed 3-bedroom cottage is styled in the classic, coastal low-country design that was popular throughout the South in the 1800s. Before air conditioning and electricity, the dogtrot design was created with large, open breezeways and several windows on all sides (don't worry, the A/C and heat work great!). This allowed homeowners to take advantage of the cross breezes which optimized airflow throughout the home. The breezeway was often the coolest spot in the house and where their canine companion was likely most often found and the inspiration for the name.
Enjoy this historically-styled accommodation with modern amenities and appliances! Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, with 2 bedrooms on one side and another bedroom/bathroom and kitchen + living room on the opposite. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to enjoy your time on the marsh.
POOL & POOL HOUSE!
Reserving the Dogtrot Cottage includes the use of the Emma's Driftwood Farm communal pool & screened-in pool house. Relax under dangling moss and take in the views of the marsh, or take a dip in the pool, heated for year-round enjoyment.

Where the trees weep with Spanish moss and the twisting waterways sails you far away from the outside world. Our historic property is surrounded by stunning views and is the perfect place for your private getaways, corporate retreat, and special events. Our two deep-water docks and water-front dwellings right off the inter-coastal waterway sit on eighty-one acres of picturesque marshland brimming with aquatic life, soaring domestic fowl, and local flora. Emma's is the ideal place to call home while enjoying all the fly-fishing and inshore fishing, birding, crabbing, and boating that the Georgia Coast has to offer.
All five dwellings on the property have sweeping views of the marsh, creeks, and 200-year-old live oak forest. Our natural creek bluff is a perfect low impact spot to access the tidal waterways surrounding Sapelo Island and beyond. We had a weekend party that used Emma's Hatcher House -- maybe 50 yards from Dogtrot -- as the main venue but had 3 couples sleep in Dogtrot Cottage. Very comfortable, clean and well-appointed accommodations with a layout that allowed for any desired combination of mingling or privacy. A bit further from the marsh than Hatcher so the views aren't as immediate but still very close to all the amenities (marsh, docks, pool, game pavilion) available at Emma's.
It’s our second time staying at this property and we absolutely love it.!
Words can't describe the natural beauty of this place. The cottage was equally great: very new, clean, and well-appointed. Very generous welcome gifts. What a relaxing place to spend time with the family, whether hanging around the cottage, at one of the two great docks on marsh creeks, or the lovely pool/pool house directly overlooking seemingly unending marsh. Event barn had ping pong, foosball, other assorted games, and plenty of bikes to borrow to ride all around the property. Everything was first class in every way, we will definitely return. Would be a magnificent location for a wedding or family reunion.
We had a great stay and relaxing few days!
My husband and I spent five nights in the Dogtrot Cottage on Emma’s Driftwood Farm. The property is absolutely gorgeous, like something out of a movie with the towering oak trees covered in sweeping moss all around. The grounds were very well taken care of, the pool and spring house were beautiful. The two of us and our two pups enjoyed walking on the property and out on the docks, and it felt as though we had the entire place to ourselves. The cottage was impeccably maintained, beautifully decorated, and had everything we could have asked for and more. The charcuterie board in the fridge was a lovely surprise, as was the bottle of wine, the stoneground grits and cornbread and the honey, which was harvested there on the property, and the delicious coffee. It was the most peaceful and relaxing vacation ever, and we will definitely will be back. Thank you so much for sharing your breathtaking estate with us. Comfy beds, too! ?
This is a beautiful property in an idyllic setting. The children enjoyed the pool and fishing off the dock. The adults enjoyed the view.
