Penn Yan, New York
Quaint, cozy cottage situated right on the lake. "Stepping Stone" is on quiet and peaceful East Bluff, just minutes from the town of Penn Yan. East Bluff is a quiet street with minimal traffic-perfect for walking, biking and running.
The lakefront has 90 feet of frontage with a pebble beach, no break wall, you can just walk right in or jump off the large dock into the beautiful water. There is also a floating dock with a "jumping block". A paddle board and kayak are there for your enjoyment. There is ample room on the beach to play the "bean bag toss game" and the ladder game, which are provided for your enjoyment. When dusk settles in light a fire in the fire pit and enjoy smores and the beautiful rising moon and stars.
Stepping Stone is a two story cottage with a wonderful screened in porch overlooking the lake, the perfect place to nap, read a book, play a game , watch the sunrise or bird watch. There is room to park 3 cars.
As you walk in the front door you are greeted by the first two bedrooms and full bath. The first bedroom has 2 sets of twin bunk beds. Walk next door and the next bedroom overlooks the lake and has a double queen bunk bed. The bathroom, with a shower is also on this floor. Walk down the stairs and you are on "the main floor". Turn to the right and you have the master bedroom, with a double bed overlooking the lake. And next to this is the other full bathroom with a tub/shower. There is one room with the kitchen and family room which has a wall of windows and a sliding screen door which opens onto the screened in porch. Off the screened in porch is a large deck facing the water. Walk down 20 steps and you are on the beach.
We stayed at the Stepping Stone house with our three boys ages 6,10 and12 and had an amazing week. The location is quiet and comfortable on a very safe and friendly street. The boys thoroughly enjoyed being right on the lake and the docks were a huge hit! Very comfortable house that easily accommodated the 5 of us and could have accommodated 2-3 more people. The house had everything we needed to cook and live as well as have fun at the lake. Fires every night were a big hit by the lake and we were close enough to lots of vineyards and breweries as well. Highly recommend this home and host. Margret was so helpful and kind that I can't wait to come stay at her home again next year!!
This place was everything I dream about when renting a cottage. From the screened in porch with hanging lights to the spacious dock with chairs to sunbathe, it did not disappoint. Me and the kids loved jumping off the swim up pad and caught many fish off the dock! We read books on the porch and cooked in the kitchen. We played games and had dinner at Switz's across the lake. We slept great in the comfortable beds with the most beautiful white bedding. There are plenty of fans in the bedrooms, so the lack of air conditioning went unnoticed. There are hooks to hang towels in all the right places and the laundry room right off the screened in porch was fantastic. It seemed like every time I looked for something it was always in the place I guessed. The beach towels they left for us were beautiful quality and they also had the necessary paper towels, toilet paper and tin foil. Fires at night are a must - you can get wood down the road! I went for a walk every morning and there was a great hill down the street. Keuka is not a super busy lake so paddle boarding and kayaking were easy. Can't wait to go next year!
