Stayed Feb 8, 2025My partner and I stayed here during low season in winter. We were a bit scared that it would be too cold inside the house but the host put two heaters and it was warm enough inside. We had access to a large garden on the property and were allowed to pick oranges, lemons and kiwis. The host was also very generous in letting us walk around the entire property. There are also two friendly dogs and two cute cats living there that often come to visit the guests and ask for a snack. The only downside we found is that some things on the property are a bit dirty and dusty, but we understand that we came during low season and were therefore not expecting the place to be in a pristine state. We worked from there and we can confirm that the Internet is fast and reliable (around 200 Mbps), so it is well-suited for remote work. The main nearby towns are Amarante and Marco de Canaveses. Amarante is very picturesque and has a long history. It's also known for a variety of pastries, one of which has a dubious name. M. d. Canaveses has a rather industrial look and is a bit ugly, but you can take the train to Porto from there and it will take you around one hour, costing ca. 10 for a return trip. We also loved Vila Real, which lies to the East and can be reached by car in around 35 minutes if you take the Marão tunnel. This tunnel had tolls but they were removed at the start of 2025.All in all a wonderful place to have a quiet vacation or workation in Northern Portugal.

Stayed Aug 25, 2020If you are looking for quite place in the middle of nature but not so far from the world, that your access to it could get lost than you are right at this wonderful house. It is tastefully arranged with original furniture and books to every thinkable subject (lucky you if you can read Portuguese) . One of the highlights is quite sure the inviting terrace with mountain view. But to spend too much time there is unnecessary because Jorge will give you a plenty of useful advices where to hike, what to see... I enjoyed my stay there very much.

Stayed Aug 26, 2018Ideally located accommodation to explore the beautiful North and its hidden gems. We were welcomed by Jorge, our wonderful, kind and knowledgeable host who gave us useful tips of what to see in the area. The accommodation is very spacious and had everything we needed to feel comfortable. Quiet area with stunning views from the terrace.

Stayed Jun 30, 2018We spent a very enjoyable week here. The accommodation is well-equpped and homely. Jorge, our host, lives in the adjacent property. He was very welcoming and helpful, but otherwise left us to enjoy our holiday. We particularly valued Jorge's advice about the best places to visit, restaurants and local amenities. The area is attractive without being touristy. The property has some great views and a lovely garden. It is within easy driving distance of interesting historical centres in the Douro region including Vila Real, Mateus Palace, Guimaraes, Braga and Lamego. The attractive local town, Amarante, has good shopping and restaurants. We were fortunate to be there for the annual St John festival which was great fun. Ideas for improvement: an information pack for the local area would have been helpful.
