A few key features made this property worthwhile. It’s lakefront, but not far from town. It has a dock and its own bit of “beach” (rocks, not sand). It’s dog-friendly. And the second floor living room and deck have a lot of character. As for cons, one is that the bathroom on the 3rd floor where all the bedrooms are has no shower, just a tub, though there is a handheld faucet so can sort of shower sitting down. Another is that you will probably hit your head at least occasionally using the front door, which was made for hobbits I suppose. Several small things add up to giving the place a very lived-in feel in need of updates. Another important issue is that it really only has 4 bedrooms, not 3; one of them just has two conjoined spaces and both a queen and a bunk with full bottom. That was fine for us, though.

We had a great time here. The swimming and fishing off the dock are great! Location close to town and lots of room for parking. Kayaks for adults and kids. The screened in porch on the lower level was great. Owners were great to deal with.

We loved every minute of our stay in Steve’s place! The house has been kept in original condition and transports you back to another era. Where to begin? Gorgeous floors and woodwork; a great floor plan with a massive ground floor kitchen on lake level. Great decor with European travel posters and period furniture. A beautiful preserved bath with claw tub AND a 2nd modern bath with shower. Our bedroom and the two huge porches had wonderful views of the lake. We had Scrabble games on the game table with equally wonderful lake views! All supplies were thoughtfully provided. The outdoor spaces: large lake frontage, docks, and big front yard were lovely, very private, and quiet. Joe was thrilled to catch a good sized small mouth bass from the dock. Although we had some brisk fall weather, the space heaters kept us warm & toasty. The location just outside Penn Yan and surrounded by wineries, farmland & great small towns can’t be beat. Steve is a superlative host & was consistently there for us to answer all questions. We hope to be lucky enough to get a summer week next year so that we can experience wading/swimming from the ‘beach’. Many thanks Steve for sharing your genuine lake house experience with us!

This property was perfect for our getaway with family! Owners were amazing and easy to communicate with. It is an older house with great history behind it!

Our stay was a lot of fun with beautiful weather. The cottage has a lot of character. Spacious enough that when needed we could separate and do our own thing. So many memories were made during our stay.
