Stayed Jan 3, 2026What an amazing experience! Hadas was an amazing host, and very helpful and informative! She helped us book an amazing tour with Jamal who picked us up for a wonderful jungle pontoon experience, which I highly recommend. She helped us navigate the area with excellent tips on where to go, and what to see. The house itself is AMAZING! The view is even better than the pictures show. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook. We hit the farmer’s market for some wonderful ingredients on the way in! The wildlife is all around you! It is a soundtrack, but totally worth the experience. It’s the jungle what do you expect?! Dora was super friendly, and had we had more time I’m sure her classes and massage are top notch. All in all I was most excited for my island and ocean time, but am leaving Belize most amazed by my jungle experience at Alma Del Rios!

Stayed Jan 29, 2025Trip was planned for my wife’s 35 bday with extremely short notice. Hadas was absolutely amazing! She assisted me with scheduling multiple events every day of our stay. It’s not often you find someone who authentically cares what their guests think, how their stay was and the time they spent inside the facility. It was as if everyone that guided us on our journey knew of Hadas and her beautiful family! I’ve never been to any other place where I felt welcome and at home as much as I did there, and it was immediate. As far as Alma Del Rio. Absolutely exceptional! Quiet, nestled on the edge of the Macao River in the jungle. I’m a hard one when it comes to being pleased. This lodge and the experience with Hadas, her staff and all of our guides far surpassed my expectations! Also, Dora made the visit even more exceptional which I did not feel was possible. She made the place nice and cozy, cooked an amazing traditional iconic dish for my wife and I. I could keep going and going. Just know you won’t be disappointed in the least staying at Alma Del Rio. And do not forget to bring Alma a gift from whenever you’re traveling from! She will make your heart explode in joy with her authentic appreciation. We will be back as soon as life allows us to do so!Thank you Hadas, Tom, Alma and Dora

Stayed Jun 10, 2023We loved staying at Alma del Rio. Hadas and her family were so kind and helpful and so welcoming. The home is beautiful and they’ve given a lot of attention detail. The grounds are gorgeous. She had many fruit trees and beautiful flowers everywhere and there’s a bird feeding station where you can leave fruit and watch the birds (and the occasional lizards) come to snack on it. We loved listening to the birds and geckos and watching the sun set in the evenings and we had fun using the paddle boards in the Macal river just down the hill. The only complaint was that the house was very hot and because it’s open to the outside lots of bugs get in. The location was great though - close to town but feels like you’re totally removed from it all. Thanks for a great stay!

Stayed Apr 1, 2023Booking a stay at Alma del Rio is a must if you’re traveling to San Ignacio. I can’t say enough about this place. It’s secluded yet not too far from the city. The property is absolutely gorgeous and the caretakers are some of the most lovely people you’ll ever meet! Hadas and her family were out of town during our stay but still kept in great communication with us. Elmer and Dora met us at the property when we checked in and were so warm and welcoming. It was an amazing end to a long and stressful travel day! The house itself and the property are stunning. Our boys loved exploring and hanging out down by the river. A big shoutout to Elder (not to be confused with Elmer) who showed us around the property and the different plants and trees growing around us. He was kind enough to get some fresh coconuts and break them open for us for some fresh coconut water! We are looking forward to visiting again!

Stayed Aug 7, 2021Just what we were hoping for minus the bugs but hey we were in a jungle. Beautiful location right on the river. Owners were great. Very nice home, very clean. It was very peaceful to sit in their screened porch area and see the river, and hear all the birds and wild life around. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Close to many cool things to see. We highly recommend this place.

Stayed Jun 13, 2021Loved the location. Hummingbirds and beautiful flowers everywhere. As well as fruit trees and a sly toucan. Enjoy the peace of the location with the river or take advantage of the many things to do in the area. Restaurants around are wonderful. So many attentions to detail in the cabin. You can tell attention to using a local materials or reusing materials that would’ve been thrown out. The screened in porch is amazing. Wi-Fi is very good so you can take advantage of that if you need it. We streamed the NBA playoffs (we could not abandon that even on vacation). We were a family of five with two teenagers and a preteen. There was plenty of room for all of us. And even the kids said how cool the place was. We hope to come back again soon. Oh and cannot forget the proprietors. They were warm friendly and helpful.

Stayed May 26, 2021From the very beginning, the hosts at Alma Del Rio were incredible! Before arrival we received a 30+ page guide with a ton of tips and information about the local area. Hadas also assisted us in booking emergency transportation from the airport and a private tour through a Mayan cave on a canoe. The property itself is gorgeously landscaped with a wide array of tropical plants, is tucked away off the beaten path, and overlooks the river. We loved starting our days with a quick dip in the water, enjoying the sounds of the jungle. The kitchen is fully equipped and the beds were comfy, but the TRUE gems of this place are the screened-in porch and the outdoor shower. Every moment we spent at the house was spent on the porch. The view is insanely gorgeous. The river, plants, and wildlife truly make you feel immersed in the jungle. The outdoor shower was a luxurious experience and I savored every moment I spent in the space. The people at Alma Del Rio have really created something special in Cristo Rey. Some Notes: We did rent a car to get a round. You MUST go to Rio on Pools, Big Rock Falls AND Cristo Rey Falls! Cristo Rey Falls is a small swimming hole with crystal blue water just MINUTES from Alma Del Rio and is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been. It’s a MUST see.
