Stayed Jul 16, 2025House was as defined but the host was very protective of her property. Also felt she was expecting us to follow her suggestions for transportation. Also, in description of property it should mention that shoes are not allowed in the house.

Stayed Jun 20, 2025Took my grandson for a weekend trip to Smith Island to celebrate his HS graduation. My daughter, also, accompanied us, since I am a 90 year old Grammy, and need some assistance. Our cottage was clean, comfortable and had all of our needs. The host, Kim, was extremely attentive, and made our dinner the night we arrived so we could just relax. I would highly recommend Idle Hour as the place to stay on Smith Island. Pat Reynolds, Ellicott City, MD

Stayed Aug 12, 2025The Jazzy 6 loved the accommo- dations and the kitchen was great. Stocked with seasonings, coffee and tea. Marykim was a wonderful hostess. She had our golf cart delivered to Idol Hour and our Smith Island Strawberry cake was in the refrigerator waiting for us. We loved Idol Hour and would stay again. Thank you Marykim for everything! The Jazzy 6

Stayed Aug 15, 2024The house is great, so clean and well-equipped and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Kim delivered delicious crabs right to the dinner table! We enjoyed riding the bikes around the island. Smith Island Bakery is only a few doors down!

Stayed Aug 18, 2023The property was amazing and any minor issue we had. They were right there to fix it. The island was welcoming, as well as just the right amount of quiet and slow down that we were looking for. I recommend anybody needing to detach disconnect to enjoy property for a couple of days or even longer. The hospitality was amazing. We will be back.

Stayed Aug 8, 2023We just finished a 2 day stay at the Idle Hour and wished we had more time. Our Smith Island stay would not have been the same without Marykim. She helped us with our bags, gave us amazing advice and was a terrific cook and hostess. Would not hesitate to book again.

Stayed Jul 17, 2023Ewell is such a small town that everything is within a couple hundred feet of Idle Hour. It's a great town to walk around -- though the residents seem to travel everywhere by golf cart. All of the handful of businesses in Ewell close early (usual 4pm) and some aren't open Monday or Tuesday. So it's good to plan your day around that. We did not take advantage of MaryKim's offer to cater our meals. Perhaps we will next time. Idle Hours kitchen is large and well appointed -- we enjoyed cocking some family meals there. The mail boat (the Island Belle II) that brought us to and from Smith Island had no problems with us bringing a couple bags of groceries with us. The house was fairly large and well furnished. our two adult children each had their own bed room. MaryKim was happy to have us use her kayaks and share her private dock. It was a great three day vacation. We hope to return.

Stayed May 5, 2023Lovely home hosted by a very gracious couple. The hostess is an excellent cook meals requested we’re delicious. It is a big plus that she offers evening meals at a reasonable price. Very little available on island out of season. Having a kayak and bikes at our disposal was huge! Would stay here again and hope to do just that!

Stayed Oct 7, 2022Kim & Mickey are great people and excellent hosts! Kim picked me up at the dock and took me to the house. The house was clean when I arrived. I enjoyed the fresh air and the island scenery as well as the Smith Island bakery. I must mention that Kim did all my cooking as the restaurant was closed for the season. Her meals are to die for-don’t know how the restaurant stays open competing against her! I would definitely recommend staying at the Idle Hour and hope to return soon!
