Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin
Heritage Cottage on Baker Point is a slice of history. Baker Point has a sand bar that runs 100 yards out into the lake only waist deep making it perfect for children and fishing.
Heritage is recently refurbished, however this 200 year old landmark is the oldest cottage on the lake. If you are looking for luxurious accomodations this is not the place. The main cabin was built around 1820 and pulled behind horses across the frozen lake and placed atop the hill on Baker Point overlooking the lake. The floors are slanted and windows are crooked. We love it. Nestled among the pines the lumber jacks picked this beautiful site for good reason. The Captains Quarters includes a brand new California King bed and a day bed for a child. The Common Quarters is one large room with 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds. Be aware that the staircase to the Common Quarters is steep as it is original. Small children should not attempt to climb unaccompanied by an adult. Heritage Includes a 50 inch Smart HDTV and Wifi, new refrigerator, old stove and pretty much everything you need in the kitchen and bedrooms. Also includes nonexclusive use of the fire-pit, dock, 2 kayaks and the canoe which are shared by Eagles Nest which is also located on Baker Point. Heritage has priority use of the canoe and kayaks and Eagles Nest has priority use of the fishing boat. Heritage is not a year round home and is only suitable for living before the temperature drops. No AC, no insulation, but lots of fans and lake breeses. Although Eagle's Nest is new and also on the property, Heritage is where our family stays every summer. We have been on the lake for 130 years and been spending summer's in Heritage for about 60 years so please help us keep the place kept up and let us know immediately if an issue arrises. Wildlife abounds. Deer, raccoons, eagles, ducks, squirrels and chipmunks are a part of daily life here. Be aware that bears, wolves, cougars and field mice can make the rare appearance as well so take care not to invite them. For cold weather months please check out Eagles Nest. Extremely peaceful yet only 3 miles by road and 1/2 mile by boat to Restaurants, Taverns, Dairy Queen, Coffee Shop, Groceries, gas station, a boat landing, and Public Beach with Playground.

Rustic… aka needs some improvement. If you have young kids, not the best place. Location on the lake is great, neighborhood is nice. Dock and local beach are nice. Clean sheets, linens, and bathroom. Kayaks were nice. Needs improvement: many lights don’t work well, be prepared for mice, lots of bugs and spiders, few plug ins without covers. No air conditioner, but fans made it work. Appliances are available for cooking. There is outdoor furniture at the fire pit, few are broken.
This was the worst experience we’ve ever had at a vacation rental and we have rented all over. When we arrived, the upstairs smelled so terrible. We discovered a dead mouse on the rug, and it was not fresh. There were mouse droppings throughout the house. There was mouse poison on the kitchen floor just in sight and reach of our toddler. It was not ok. Overall, the rest of the cottage was dirty. The linens and towels did appear clean. We were very disappointed to come back to visit our hometown area to be treated so poorly by the host and VRBO. My uncle even made the signs for the owner for the property. We contacted the host and then VRBO about the stench and dead rodent the first day and talked to customer service every day of our stay thereafter to receive a refund and find a habitable place to stay for our vacation. The host offered to send housekeeping the next day. If it had been indicated in the listing that there was a rodent infestation and poison out, we would never have booked. Needless to say, we were unable to stay at this location and enjoy our vacation.
very unique house. quiet and peaceful area to stay
Heritage House is charming and historic (yes, the floors are uneven), and it won’t take you long to fall under it’s spell. The beds are very comfortable with nicely appointed bed linens. My children loved bunking together in the upstairs bed room with lake views. The kitchen and bathroom are fully stocked (dishes/pots/pans/etc. and plush towels/soap/shampoo/conditioner), and even the water pressure is great. The lake is crystal clear and is great for swimming. The property has a well-maintained canoe and kayaks with life jackets. (We brought our own infant and children life jackets). Bring warm pajamas for chilly evenings (although heaters and fans are provided), beach towels, and an eye mask if you want to sleep in. Better yet, enjoy your coffee at the end of the dock at dawn. It’s magical. Finally, Todd is super responsive and helpful…thank you for a great stay!
We love Lake Nebagamon! It has plenty for our little family and when we want something more Superior/Duluth is not far away. Love all the water-craft included with this property and the house itself is charming and very well organized. Lots of little touches to make the stay very easy.
Our family just spent the week at Heritage Point, and it was wonderful! The house is old, and very charming, but drafty at night. Bring warm pajamas! It was a quiet spot on a beautiful lake. Nice to have the sandbar just off of the dock for the kids to play! Dog friendly as well! Look forward to visiting again!
Loved the provided boats, beds were comfy, and the house was convenient to town by water or car. The house was charming, although the floors and doors were wonky, and the stairs up to the loft were very steep. Not a negative, but just know what to expect.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Heritage Cottage! The photos do not do it justice - it's a gorgeous historic property complete with all the rustic quirks you'd expect from a house that is quite old, which is exactly what we were looking for but might not be everyone's choice (we'd much rather stay in a place with character than a cookie-cutter hotel). A few things of note that I didn't notice in other reviews: the beds are lovely and comfortable, there is a charming collection of kitschy mugs for your morning coffee, the stairs to the lofted bedroom are quite steep and shallow, you should expect to be hot/cold based on the temperature outside, there's a friendly outdoor cat who likes to prowl around looking for chipmunks, and there are very few curtains on any windows so you can enjoy views of the lake/woods and you should also be ready to wake up with the sun. The lake is absolutely beautiful and the area off the dock is perfect for swimming in (not weedy at all), though we did also use and enjoy the public beach. We canoed around the lake and got very close to two courting/mating loons, which was pretty incredible to see. It was a great location for birdwatching in general. The Eagle's Nest was occupied during our stay, but we never felt too close to anyone and had no issues with the sharing of the swing/firepit/dock/boats - we definitely felt secluded even with those curtain-less windows. We'd highly recommend spending a day (or part of it) hiking at Amnicon Falls - just gorgeous! - and picking up pizza from Round Up North which is only a 15 minute drive away in Brule. So glad we stayed here! A great vacation spot for our family.
A great place in a beautiful setting.
A very cozy and well equipped cabin. Thank goodness for the electric fire place and oil heaters. Temperatures dropped to the 30's at night but we were able to stay warm.
