This lovely spacious cedar cottage is located on a small, friendly island surrounded by one of the world's most beautiful pink sand beaches and turquoise waters. We built this cottage for our family, and love to share it with friends and beach-lovers. That's why we've made it one of the best lodging deals on Harbour Island.

The beach, only a short walk over the dunes and past a row of gorgeous plantation-style estates, is nearly three miles long. A five minute walk to the calm protected waters on the bay side leads to licensed water sports providers, fishing guides, and gorgeous sunsets to be seen nightly from gourmet restaurants and bars with a water and sky-view. It's also a great place to check out the incredible yachts that pull into the harbor.

Most locals get around in golf carts, and rentals are readily available for your stay.

While the restaurants are top-notch, the cottage has a full kitchen and a new propane grill for those who like to cook. Shop for fresh-caught fish or conch at the daily market. Relax and enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon tea on our deck shaded by century-old banyan trees or in the comfort of our spacious living room with fresh-baked goodies from the local bakery.

The master bedroom has a king-sized bed and attached bath (renovated as of March 2022). A bedroom (with queen bed) and a room with two twins share a bath (also renovated March 2022). A pull-out convertible sofa provides an additional queen bed.

We have a large, fenced yard for kids to play outdoors. The house is nestled between four large banyan trees that provide shade and keep all the rooms cool. There is a powerful AC unit in the living/dining area and a second one in the master bedroom. Ceiling fans are located in all of the bedrooms and the living room.

Please note: This is a NO SMOKING property.

If you like shopping, there are wonderful boutiques in town as well as excellent local shops that carry Bahamian-made goods. No foreign currency worries – the Bahamian dollar is on a par with the U.S. dollar. The local bank has a conveniently located ATM, and credit cards are accepted almost everywhere.

Harbour Island is the best of the Caribbean – small, friendly, laid back, comfortable, warm, and fun. As former supermodel and world traveler Helena Christensen told the Wall Street Journal, Harbour Island is 'a wonderful little island with beautiful beaches, a great restaurant culture and friendly, welcoming atmosphere..'

Wonderful house and property with beautiful banyan trees keeping it cool throughout the day and night. Fun wooden interior feeling like a cozy cabin.

This cabin felt very private with the huge banyon trees that provided shade for the house and deck. We enjoyed coming back to the house after the beach and other outings. It met our expectations in all respects. There were some recent updates to the bathrooms. A couple issues remaining from the renovations were addressed quickly and efficiently by the property manager. We would definitely go back! Thank you for a great visit!

This home worked perfectly for our family trip to Harbour Island. The house is situated conveniently near beaches and stores- very easy walk or golf-cart ride to both. In a great way the house feels like part of the island-vibe--it doesn't feel touristy and fancy, just totally comfortable and relaxing. It's a great base to come home to after a day out in the sun or out to restaurants. We didn't cook at the house so can't comment on the kitchen supplies. We traveled with 2 other families to H.I. and they stayed in other rental. properties. In comparison--our house was bigger and more private: one family's house had fancier decor but was a much smaller space; the other family's house had a bigger outdoor group area where we could all hang out and gather, but they also had an attached unit with other renter/shared space to their house which they didn't know about before renting. We were really happy with Back Banyans. Communications with the owner were really easy and the house manager on the island Alexis was great and responded quickly to any questions. Thanks for the great stay!

We loved our stay at Back Banyan. The house was clean and in a great location, close to everything. It had everything we needed and was comfortable in all respects. It is not resort accommodations, but that was not what we were looking for. In fact, I would say it was even better. The house was quaint, great space and a rustic but our entire group would choose to return over any other resorts or places we saw on the Island. The property manager, Alexis was very friendly and immediately available to us whenever we needed her. Highly recommend Back Banyan!!!

OK, I had such a hard time with the Title line in this review as everything I came up with sounded so cliched. There is nothing clich'ed about Back Banyan House I'm not comfortable in places that feel separated from the culture I'm visiting and I've never liked beachy: blond Floridian type of condos with way too many shells and generic seascape posters. This house was like living in our own house, with a front and backyard and white picket fence. It is a spacious cabin of well seasoned knotty pine interior and wood floors that would not look strange in The Adirondacks yet sits beautifully here. Some places feel, 'rented' and some not. this is the latter. Not fancy, extremely homey. 3 minute ride in a golf cart gets you the most amazing of beaches. The kitchen is really well suited for actual cooking, which we did quite a bit of as the Covid19 scare (no cases on the island) but restaurants had to close their doors halfway through our stay. Juanita, of Tingum Village , a small hotel across the street became our friend and sometimes provider of information and delicious local rum. Our plan was for a 'reading' vacation'. the comfort of the living area was made for this occupation. The almost, in the title is that we almost didn't make it back to the States due to flight cancellations. This house was the ideal place to be marooned.

For unpretentious naturalists this the perfect place under the umbrella of giant banyan trees within walking distance of everything.

We stayed for 4 nights at this property. The photos truly do not do any justice to how wonderful this property truly is - we al lcommented sayign we would like to retire in this home!! We were a family of 3 adult siblings, 2 spouses and 2 young children. As soon as we entered the property, we were taken in by the open and airy set up. Plenty of couches, chairs, dining room area chairs, large kitchen - everything was convenient. The kitchen was fully stocked with plenty of pots and pans, utensils, coffee maker, dishware for at least a dozen easily. The unit also has a washer dryer right next to the kitchen. The bedrooms and their setup were perfect. Both bathrooms were arge - the ensuite bathroom was huge. The linen closet was stocked with plenty of extra towels and sheets etc. Onsite Manager, Alexis, was a gem and responded to all our requests in a timely manner, bringing us beach chairs and beach umbrella when asked. The entire island uses only bottled water and Alexis helped by delivering a 5 gallon can of water upon request. Expecting rental units in remote islands to have expensive spices for free is extremely unreasonable (previous reviewer's complaint). The restaurant across from this home. Tinghum Village, are excellent neighbors and took great care of us during power cuts. Renting a golf cart is a must if you have young kids. The beach is a quick 10 mins walk and is absolutely beautiful. Do come prepared with ear plugs as your friendly neighbor, Mr. Rooster, will sing for you starting at 4 AM. Overall, we could not have found a better place to suit our needs.
