Vashon, Washington
The Space
The newly updated, light and airy 1940s cottage nestles into a beautiful, accessible, lively Magnolia Beach. The cottage welcomes you with three bedrooms, two plush queen beds and one bunk room (a full over full bunk bed and one pull-out twin), an open living area, a nicely-equipped kitchen, and a large dining table with expansive views, one and one-half bathrooms, fire pit, and outdoor seating areas and propane grill. Vashon's Burton Beach Cottage feels like a world away with its serene beach, comfortable and clean accommodations, and sweeping views gorgeous--interesting in all seasons.
Guest Access
This is a private home with over 100 feet of private beach easily accessible in what used to be a brickyard's boat ramp. We'll leave the key for you--step in, kick off your shoes, and enjoy.
The Neighborhood
Vashon is a very special place that has so much to offer--beaches, water, rural vistas, hiking, biking, farm stands, artists' studios, live music, and fresh air. The homes near the cottage on Magnolia Beach are a mix of full and part-time, friendly residents, along with an occasional renter.
Getting Around
The 118 bus does go right by 24410 (check the King County Metro schedule). The bus will stop wherever someone is waiting (don't need to be at a stop). There is no taxi service on island, but supposedly Uber was going to give a go here on Friday and Saturday nights. You can also bike, but Vashon is not flat, at all (carved by glaciers many, many years ago). The marina is about a mile away, so you could potentially get a spot there and walk down. Burton, with a small store and coffee shop, is 1 mile away. Center is about 4 miles away. Uptown, with the major shopping, is about 5 miles north.
Other Things to Note
The cottage is conveniently located off the main road, that runs from the north end of the island, to the south end. The road sits behind the house, so the house is oriented to the water, not the road, but some road noise may be heard, especially during ferry loading and unloading times.
We use an outdoor Nest Cam Doorbell, located at the main slider door, to monitor the exterior of the property.
Very few waterfront homes on Vashon are without many steps in or to the beach. The cottage's property is level, with only one step up to the exterior door, and one step within the home. The beach is accessible via a ramp.
Getting to Vashon requires a ferry ride. A mid-sized car and its driver cost about $23. A passenger in the vehicle is $5.20, or $2.60 for a child or senior. You only pay to get onto Vashon, it is free to leave.
Some house rules:
This is a quiet island and area. We do have neighbors nearby, so ask that you observe a quiet hours from 10pm-8am. The main renters must be a minimum age 25 years old.
Please bring slippers/socks and remove your shoes when possible. Sand and salt are everywhere and do a number on floors!
This house is not child-proofed and has open access to the beach and road. This home requires constant supervision of all young children.
Water toys: Feel free to bring your own that can be walked down the ramp to the beach. The water at high tide is often a few steps away while low tide can expose a hundred feet of tidal flats. There is a canoe and life jackets on the property for your use, but you assume the risk. Know the water! Renter assumes the full liability of loss or injury during use. The Sound waters are cold year-round, and wind can come up quickly.
There is a fire pit and propane grill available during your stay. If there is a burn ban, please abstain from building a bonfire--there is a $1000 fine for air quality that you would be responsible for paying. Please look up the Vashon fire department website to confirm.
We have a sensitive, fully-functioning septic system. Nothing but human waste and TP can be flushed. Do not flush wipes of any form, or any type of feminine products. Renters will be responsible to any damage to the septic system or plumbing.
You assume all liability, risk and responsibility for any accidents or injuries to yourself or others in your party, regardless of cause, that may occur while you are on our property as part of your booking the cottage.
We leave a booklet with additional information on the table upon your arrival. Please take a look and notice the checkout instructions on the last page. We ask that you leave the cottage in similar condition that you found it. Enjoy, but please take kind care of our special place.
Beautiful seaside location. We will be back!
Loved our time in this house. Great communication, location, and overall stay!
My husband, daughter, son, and 3-year-old grandson had a great time in this well-appointed, stylish, comfy cottage in a great location with the beach and sea right outside our doors. I wondered if it would feel cramped, but it did not in the least. We appreciated having 2 of the bedrooms located on the opposite side of the bunk-bed room, so we could sleep in late in spite of our grandson's earlier rising.
Well equipped house on the water made it a good stay with another family. We were able to enjoy the nice weather and the outdoor area and fire pit. The bbq needed some maintenance but we were able to make do. One thing we didn’t know was that because it was easy access to the beach, at low tide every day, the shore in front of the house was a very popular spot with people clamming. We had carloads of people out front at each low tide.
Great location, wonderful home, great amenities.
This cottage was comfortably appointed with great amenities as described in the listing. We enjoyed our winter stay with the cozy propane stoves, but I imagine this is a spectacular place to stay in the summertime too. Tiffany was very responsive and accommodating to our needs when our travel plans got slightly derailed due to weather. Thank you!
We loved the house and property! The layout was great for our family of 4 and two grandparents. The location was perfect. Right on the water and we enjoyed beachcombing at low tide. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thanks!
This place was perfect for my family of five. A nice kids bedroom near the living spaces and two private bedrooms down the hall perfect for my husband and I to share one and another to setup our pack and play for our two year old to have a quiet place to sleep and nap. We did have to childproof the sliding doors so our little ones couldn’t get out. The views of the water and Mt Ranier were spectacular. There were tons of games available for the family to play and room to run around outside. The property manager was easy to communicate with and quickly responded when we were having issues with the WiFi. Can’t go wrong with this place.
Cozy waterfront house. Beautiful lawn and ocean access. If you plan on cooking, bring your own knives.
Simple place with a great location. Great fluffy towels.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cottage. The house has been updated with rustic wood/metal decor and a mermaid theme. The beds are very comfortable (hotel quality). The view is SPECTACULAR! We sat around the fire pit and watched sea lions, bald eagles, and even a sea otter. The private beach is perfect for beach coming.
Modern, bright cottage at water’s edge in view of Tacoma and Maury Island. So relaxing, clean, great amenities, friendly management. Wish I could stay forever!
