Cedar - Wooded Island Cabin with Screened Porch
Stay on a private island in Lake Champlain!

Accessible only by boat, Garden Island is a 30-acre private island offering a rare and peaceful Vermont escape. Cedar is nestled approximately 150 feet from the shoreline, surrounded by maturetrees and natural woodland, offering added privacy while still just a short walk from the beach and dock.
Guests enjoy full access to the island’s sandy beach, open meadow, and wooded walking trails. Spend your days kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, or taking the kids out on a paddleboat. All non-motorized lake equipment is included in your stay. Swim from the dock, relax in a hammock, or enjoy evenings under a sky full of stars. With no cars on the island, the setting is calm, natural, and intentionally unplugged.
Built in the late 1800s and featuring original wood interior throughout, Cedar feels warm, historic, and authentically Vermont. The cozy living and dining room includes a fireplace for cool evenings, while the oversized screened porch provides generous seating for family meals, morning coffee, or evening card games surrounded by forest views.
This three-bedroom, one-bath cabin includes a full kitchen, with one bedroom on the main level and two bedrooms upstairs, comfortably accommodating families seeking both space and character.

the island is very beautiful and peaceful. the building is an old camp and unfortunately was not very well maintained. There was two broken chairs and one collapsed the first night we were there. The bathroom was disgusting and clearly had not been cleaned in a while. the bath mat was dirty and stained. The kitchen floor and stove top was so dirty we felt compelled to perform a deep clean before using it. Given the cost to rent this rustic cabin we were expecting it to be clean. We were let down.

If you are good with an authentic rustic environment- complete with small rodent catch and release trap under the stairs, a little water coming in the bedroom ceiling when it rains, bugs galore, and supplying your own drinking water— then OK. Everyone else consider yourselves forewarned. There has been absolutely no maintenance done on this property in decades. The local staff are wonderful.

Stayed last weekend it was open. House was a little chilly w/ no heating but luckily they had free firewood. Did some sailing, canoeing, hanging out on beach and checked out Burlington + Shelburne farms. Finn was an awesome caretaker, super nice. Definitely want to return!

We enjoyed our stay very much. Carl the caretaker Was Great!! I would suggest getting a dock in for guest use for boating. Also a picnic table or more chairs at the cabin would be helpful for cooking and relaxing outside. A TV would also be helpful on rainy days.
