Oak - Waterfront Cottage on Private Island in Lake Champlain
Stay on a private island in Lake Champlain.

Accessible only by boat, Garden Island is a 30-acre private island offering a rare and peaceful Vermont escape. Oak sits directly along the shoreline of Converse Bay,with a spacious outdoor deck overlooking the water and capturing beautiful lake and Adirondack Mountain views — perfect for morning coffee, evening wine, or quiet sunset moments.
Guests enjoy full access to the island’s sandy beach, open meadow, and wooded walking trails. Spend your days kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, or taking the paddleboat out across the bay. All non-motorized lake equipment is included in your stay. Swim from the dock, relax in a hammock, or enjoy the gentle rhythm of island life. With no cars on the island, the setting is calm, natural, and intentionally unplugged.
Oak is a cozy waterfront studio-plus cottage that’s ideal for a couple or a small family. The main room features a fold-down futon and opens toward lake views, while a small separate bedroom with two twin beds, provides an extra space for children or guests. The screened porch connects to the wide deck above the water, creating seamless indoor-outdoor living and a romantic lakeside retreat.

Our stay was just what the doctor ordered. The only complaint is that we had to leave when our time was up...oh yes, we could have done without the rain.

Beautiful, serene, idyllic. BUT the cleaning service hired by Vacasa failed completely.

We loved our stay on Garden Island. Its a beautiful small private island with several old homes on it, and a wonderful trail that circles around the island and passes through an old cedar forest. We stayed in the small cottage called Oaks, which is located beneaht a giant old oak. It's called the 'honeymoon cottage' but my husband and I were glad we weren't honeymooners as the tiny bedroom had two single beds. There is a futon in the main room, but one would have to move the kitchen table to make room for the futon. The cabin is very basic, but we enjoyed our stay because the setting is so lovely. Beautiful view out the window looking out over a small harbor.

A cottage with lots of windows , surrounded by a porch , overlooking Converse Bay with sailors furling their sails, then unfurling them in the evening . Swims in cool water and walks along wonderful scenic trails.

Garden Island is a 30-acre island in Lake Champlain with 6 rental cottages. Our cottage was beautifully rustic and super-comfortable and well-appointed. We had a deck with a bay/island/harbor view, steps from the beach and boat dock. The owners are on the grounds, and are super-friendly and accommodating. The staff cheerfully provide everything you need, including boat rides back and forth to the mainland. (Very little of no wait time!) There's a gorgeous scenic trail around the island. The grounds are very beautiful and perfect for relaxing or exploring. We had a magical stay and we're sure we'll come back.
