Our cottage was dirty. It had a bad odor. The air conditioners were dirty and moldy. There was a mouse which we caught in a trap. Laundry room was totally inadequate. There were gaps between the boards in the floor where you could see to the dirt. The owner was not helpful or nice! She was rather nasty, in fact. The pictures were like glamour shots. Not what it really looked like. I took pictures that show how it really looked. No one would be enticed by those pictures. Avoid this place!
We made the decision to leave the property 9 days into our month long vacation. First of all I didn't realize that I would be sharing a screened in porch with my neighbors. Listing didn't mention that our cottage was 1/2 of a duplex. We had no complaints whatsoever with the neighbors. Everybody was very nice and friendly. The property was nice except for the back corner where there was a pile of debris that had been taken out of one of the cottages, and a shed that was about ready to fall down. The cottage was so dirty. Not necessarily at first glance, but it obviously had not been cleaned in (what looked like) years. First issue: poop splatters in the toilet! No idea how long it had been like that. Next we started noticing thick layers of dust on flat surfaces, insect and mouse droppings in cabinets and drawers, refrigerator had not been cleaned and the floors were filthy. We made the decision to stay and try to make the best of it since we had already paid for a month long stay. So, first night there was spent cleaning just enough that I could tolerate being there. Saw and killed some fire ants. Day #2: chilly morning and heater didn't work, started seeing roaches, and honey bees were somehow getting into the cottage. A bee hive inside the walls. The property owner was notified and came out, brought us a heater and sprayed for bugs. Continued seeing roaches, even crawling on the rubber seal of the refrigerator door. Disgusting. We ended up buying our own bug spray and I continued cleaning and keeping our food and dishes in storage bags. The water was so putrid smelling it just about gagged us. Holes in the living room floor where I could see the ground outside below. Also didn't realize that a train would be going by 2-3 times a night and waking us up. We really wanted to make it work. The weather was beautiful and the location was great. The final straw was on day 9 when I pulled the bed away from the wall so I could clean, and I found white mold covering the back of the headboard and the wall. I had already swept trash out from underneath the bed our first night there. The cottage, as it was when we arrived, is not fit for anybody except the roaches. Certainly not fit for paying guests. We were refunded for the days that we weren't able to stay there.
