Stayed May 12, 2023This was the first time we have stayed in a place like this, usually it is camp grounds or motels, and we had a wonderful time. If you want to spend time on a farm away from any technology and town life then this is the place to come. Our children loved being out with the animals and walking through the paddocks, I got the rest and relaxation I had been searching for for so long, and my husband was able to step away from work. The hosts were amazing! Kind, caring, and so very helpful with everything! The cottage is gorgeous! You wake up to a stunning view of the surrounding hills and hearing tuis’ singing and sheep in the paddock, and you can end the day curled up in front of the fire with a book or a board game. We will be back to stay again, and it will be for a lot longer than just a weekend.

Stayed Apr 1, 2025Beautiful house in a beautiful rural setting, so peaceful, we were sorry it was only one night. Outdoor shower is a must. Sally and Simon were superb hosts, super helpful and friendly. Sally's homemade treat was very much appreciated and we had a lovely walk around the farm, meeting the lovely dogs. Would highly recommend staying at this piece of paradise.

Stayed May 23, 2022Tucked away in the hills is this lil gem - perfect for getting away from it all. We enjoyed the farm walks & spending time by the river, dogs had an absolute blast & tons of space to stretch their legs. We met the pigs & said hi to the horses & donkey plus meeting wee Fig (the dog) was a pleasure as he joined us on a wee walk. Thank you for having us

Stayed Jun 27, 2020We had a lovely stay at this property. The cottage was cosy with 2 wood burners, plenty of games to play, a stereo, a well equipped kitchen and comfy beds. There are plenty of walks in the area, and the owner's dog at the nearby property was very friendly and joined us for one of them! Thank you

Stayed Jan 23, 2020While this is a bit out of Gisborne, I'm not sure you need to head into town with all the great natural attractions nearby. Beautiful countryside with good swimming spots.

Stayed Jan 6, 2020We stayed here in January with 7 adults, 4 children and 3 dogs. We all loved our time at Mahaanui, from feeding the pigs and the sheep shearing demo to the walking tracks through the farm, and from the welcome brownies to the suggested local activities described in the property info. I highly recommend Mahaanui, especially if you have dogs. Our three had the best time as the property is fully fenced and they had a lot of freedom.

Stayed Dec 27, 2019We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Lovely setting with plenty to do or easy to relax and do nothing at all. Simon and sally are very kind and hospitable - we arrived to fresh cut flowers and lovely baking and Simon took us all to see the animals - a real highlight for the kids.
