Stayed Dec 31, 1969This was the second time we've stayed at Les Chardons (the downstairs apartment) for a skiing holiday. Vignec is a beautiful village near to Saint Lary. You can walk between the two but we leave all the skis in the car and drive the short distance to the new telecabine each day. The apartment is spacious compared to most modern purpose built places and perfect for a family with two children. Ours are aged 10 and 8 and loved their bunk beds. There's a well equipped kitchen, a proper dining table and chairs as well as a sofa and TV area. Sheets, towels etc are provided. M & Mme Escalonna (Nicole and Bernard), the owners are really kind, helpful and welcoming (thanks for the pyrenees cake and the jam!). Although they don't speak much English they are extremely patient with our French and their son has helped translate in the past if there has been anything complicated. While you're there they leave you alone but you know they are just nearby if you need anything. One of the best features of the apartment is the wood burning stove. It is fantastic. Bernard fills up the wood store with more than enough wood for the week for 20 Euros and for that you can light the fire when you get back every evening and with the thick stone walls it keeps the place really toasty. The wifi connection works well and there always seems to be plenty of hot water. At the end of the stay you just pay for any firewood and the electricity bill before leaving. I would recommend this place to a family with two young kids (or older ones that can share a room). Mind you I would love to stay here some time without the kids and check out a few more of the local restaurants in the evenings.
