Just completed a week's stay. I appreciated that the interior was very clean and had nice decor, everything was in order, nicely furnished. It was great to have a washer and dryer to use and the air conditioning worked really well, including the portable units upstairs. We were disappointed that the outside space was not as nice as pictured in the listing. There were not any cute flower baskets out front, just weeds and an old bench. One porch light was out. The back deck area was dirty, needs a good sweep including the dead bugs above the door. The BBQ we could not use because it was dirty, I figured I would just burn it clean but could only get one of the burners to light. The cushions on the sitting sofa outside were gross, moldy and mildewy, I noticed they appear to be the same as the ones in the last owner's listing. We had looked forward to spending time out there and doing some porch bbqs with family in the area, but it was not really very pleasant out there. The river was green with muck, not their fault but nothing much to look at. The shops on Merchants row were nice, great people. Do know that the street is a highway and is not always quiet and quaint, it was very dangerous at times crossing to the car and could be quite loud sometimes. First time to Kentucky, beautiful place and nice people.

Great kitchen for cooking. I appreciate that it had a washer and dryer. The history of the house and town were interesting to learn about.

Two families combined with 3 adults and 2 teens had a comfortable 3-night stay. Didn't try the sleeper sofa. Brought an air mattress instead. It's an old structure; naturally some features aren't up to modern code - mostly the staircase and overhead clearance on the staircase. So perhaps not ideal for elderly or if you have limited mobility. But it checks all the boxes for our needs... a/c worked well (cooling and heating), water temp and pressure, kitchen appliances, washer and dryer, room and space. Love the little cafe next door. Hoping to branch out to the nearby restaurant next time. My 1st VRBO experience so no baseline for comparison but host communication couldn't have been easier, which was a relief.Fantastic value. Worked way better than a hotel in Danville. And way more affordable than Danville house options. We'll be back.

Hidden gem! SUPER CLEAN! Very cool the way the owners have renovated this 185 year old building from a general store to a comfortable place to get some R&R. I really appreciate the warning about the stairs leading to the rooms. Having mobility issues and booking homes can be aggravating, you spend hours research your trip ( where to stay, eat, mode of transport, activities , etc ) only to find out that the property is difficult to manage moving about the rooms.

The house was in a great location. I will say the split systems required to cool the bedrooms were very noisy. The other thing that I didn't realize is that the house is just open to the basement - there's no door. That may not bother some, but it was a little odd for me, coming from an area that doesn't even have basements.

A true historic gem in a beautiful area of Kentucky! The cottage is spacious, well appointed, and was immaculately clean on our arrival. We stayed five nights and enjoyed the property immensely. But what the website cannot convey is the sheer sense of history you experience by staying in this wonderful place. Merchants Row, where the cottage is situated, is largely unchanged from its 1840s origins. The house across the road had a cannonball through its window during the Civil War, another building was where the town doctor treated soldiers wounded in the nearby battle of Perryville in 1862 (the battlefield site just a few miles from town is well worth a visit). You can really soak in the history and ambience of that era here. I cannot rate this property, and our experience, highly enough. Jon is an outstanding host, knowledgeable and communicative, and if you are even just thinking about booking here, go ahead and do it. Everything simply exceeded our expectations.

This property provided us a unique place to call home during our initial bourbon trail experience. The history of the building as a store was a great talking point with friends and family. The unit was clean and met or exceeded our expectations. Although the stairs were a challenge, we navigated them without issue. Would definitely stay there again if in the area.

My sisters and I visited Perryville to explore the history associated with the Civil War. We fell in love with Kentucky. We even visited a nearby winery. Our accomodations were so very nice and comfortable. Our hosts answered all our questions promptly. We would love to revisit in the future and would definitely want to stay on Merchants Row.

The house is well kept and was convenient to check in and out of. The owners had thoughtful touches such as coffee and a few snack items available. The kitchen has all you would need for cooking a meal including full size, updated appliances. The beds were comfortable as was the living room.
