Stayed Nov 9, 2023The owner, Lesley (and her entire work group at the Homestay) have a wonderful place. We especially recommend it for local birds - several species of sunbirds, cuckoos, the resident pair of Wood Owls (calling each night) and many others. You can walk her property and see/hear/photograph to your heart's delight. Place is clean...stove/fridge (+ electricity/hot water) works - you won't have infrastructure problems. And the garden in back has ample greens, peppers (hot), some tomatoes and others. You can purchase meat (chicken, sausage and steaks) from her - she runs a butcher shop in town. Be advised you really need a vehicle to get around here (a good 30-40 minute walk to the main road) or 50 minute drive to Arusha to the west on the main road. There is good barbecued chicken to be purchased (at a good price - about $4 for a half chicken) in the small town as you exit the dirt roads to Lesley's place (right on the main road). A taxi to Arusha town (one way) costs about $40 USD. You can rent a SUV (Toyota) in Arusha for about $50/day - but it is not 4 WD so you cannot take it into national parks (car companies have GPS trackers on the vehicles so if you do go into a national park you are looking at a $1000 USD fine). There are many police stops (every 30 miles) on the roads and they are inclined to write speeding tickets (50 KM/hr near towns, and 80 KM/hr) - so you are not going to travel northern Tanzania fast...So enjoy Lesley's place - it's worth it. Highly recommend
