Appleshine Cottage is a Grade II listed barn, dating back to the 17th-Century, which has been lovingly restored into a characterful holiday home and has retained many of its original features including exposed stone walls and original beams. Located in the small Yorkshire village of Almondbury, Appleshine Cottage enjoys an elevated position within a peaceful and picturesque valley and has stunning 360-degree countryside views. The property looks out towards Castle Hill and The Victoria Tower, a folly which was built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. On the edge of the Peak District and close to the North Yorkshire Moors, this is a great base for those who love the outdoors with many walks from the doorstep, from a gentle stroll to more challenging treks and trails. Other leisure activities available locally include cycling, golf, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting. Almondbury is on the edge of the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country just 4 miles from the popular town of Holmfirth which has a wide variety of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. There is also a good selection of pubs within a 15 minute walk, some of which offer food. A wider range of facilities can be found in Huddersfield which again is approximately 4 miles. The area is rich in culture with notable theatres in Bradford (the Alhambra) and Leeds (The Grand). The region also plays host to a number of music festivals throughout the year, including Marsden’s jazz festival and Huddersfield’s contemporary music festival. Families will particularly enjoy the Eureka! Science museum at Halifax, 11 miles, Bradford’s National Media Museum, 16 miles, and the Royal Armouries at Leeds, 22 miles. Other places of interest, within easy driving distance, include Bretton Sculpture Park, 9 miles, Haworth and Bronte Country, 22 miles, Manchester, 32 miles and Harrogate 36 miles. The historic city of York can also be reached by car in just over an hour. National Trust properties within easy reach include Nostell Priory and Parkland, Hardcastle Crags, both 15 miles, East Riddlesden Hall, 18 miles and Lyme Park, 23 miles. Loved our stay at Appleshine! Magnificent spot with views looking out to Castle Hill and surrounding area. Rolling hills and local farms making up a picturesque scene. Cottage is small but has everything you need. It is furnished tastefully and feels like home. Beds are comfortable and linen is crisp. We hope to enjoy another stay in the not too distant future. Thank-you! Kaz & Dave, Melbourne, Australia

This cottage was beautiful, fantastic views over to the castle, (which is walkable, through the fields, a three mile round walk which we did with children). The cottage is spotless and well equipped. the setting is very tranquil, shops and pubs within a 2/3 mile drive. Would definately recommend this property Hosts very helpful and friendly.

Lovely cottage. Clean and comfy. Amazing views and good walks all around. Very tall husband found bathrooms and some furniture a bit wee, but we had a great time anyway.

Beautiful cottage with splendid views. Very well equipped - you need take nothing other than your personal belongings. We may well go again when we visit Yorkshire. It's a pity that these days duvets are universal and there are no options for varying the weight and warmth of the bedding - an issue in all rooms away from home!

A short, but very enjoyable stay. The views from the cottage are superb. Very quiet, cosy and well equipped. We would definitely stay again.
