Located in a breathtaking setting, completely enveloped in the rolling countryside which is has wildlife in abundance, this attractive, brick and flint holiday cottage makes a romantic and peaceful retreat, ideal for couples and walkers. As the name suggests, Drovers Cottage was formerly a place of rest for drovers (modern day livestock transporters), who travelled hundreds and hundreds of miles with their animals and needed somewhere to rest. The group of fir trees, which still remain to this day, were an easily recognisable landmark even from afar. The fields surrounding the cottage are of archaeological interest, as they were used as Roman camps and often oyster shells can be found, these were brought in barrels from the coast for the Roman warriors to eat, and they tossed the shells into the fields.

Having been totally renovated, Drovers Cottage offers tasteful and well-presented accommodation, and is within easy walking distance to the quaint thatched-roof village, with its shop, beautiful church and two pubs serving good food. This picturesque village is steeped in history, it has a bronze burial in the parish, which dates back to 2000BC. The village was part of the Royal Manor, belonging first to King Alfred the Great, then later William the Conqueror, which is recorded in the Domesday Book.

Within easy reach are the South Downs, Portsmouth, Winchester Cathedral, Southampton with its maritime history, the New Forest, Chichester, beaches at the Witterings or Hayling Island, the Watercress steam train, Jane Austen’s house, Gilbert White’s house and Birdworld. London is just an hour by train from nearby Petersfield. Seasonal fishing available in a small lake close by. Shops ¼ mile.

The cottage is in a beautiful location. So peaceful and tranquil with a lovely, open outlook. Ideal for anyone wanting to 'get away from it all'.Very well equipped, with everything you could possibly need, whatever the weather. A nice, cosy feel to the cottage. There is so much to do and see in the area, then you feel very relaxed when you return to the cottage after your day out.Would like to also commend the farm you pass through en route to and from the cottage, for being so well kept, organised and tidy too. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. Would definitely recommend the cottage.

My stay began before the second lockdown. Best way to spend that. I doubt there could be a more pleasant, quieter or more isolated location this near London. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Lovely quiet place and surroundings Comfortable inside Disappointed to find remains of food on dishes ,the overhead cooker hood was dirty and the bed frame was dusty. Considering the Coronavirus outbreak doesn’t seem to have had a deep clean. However, that was a small price to pay for a lovely location. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Lovely hideaway for a couple with a dog. Plenty of fences in garden to be secure. Our dog loved all the new smells and places to explore. For the humans it's an excellent place to relax and escape. You are surrounded by fields and the lovely south downs. Well worth a visit...you will be back for more. This cottage was in an amazing setting, so quiet and peaceful. We did not want to leave. We did lots of walks directly from the cottage using our ordnance survey map. Good that it was dog friendly so can recommend to others with dogs. The cleanliness was excellent and made us feel safe during pandemic. Excellent WiFi. Owner came and introduced herself which was a lovely touch. All the facilities you require, it was like home from home. Used outside seating a lot which was very relaxing. 10 minute walk across fields to village where we visited one pub, Isaak Walton, and had a drink outside which was very friendly and Covid safe. Did not visit olde George inn as didn’t seem very inviting. We really lived drovers cottage and would highly recommend it. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo
