Pono Kai Resort B304, Oceanfront, Walk to Town, Steps to Beach, AC

I could have lived on the balcony. I watched the sunrise every morning which meant during the heat of the day the sun was on the other side of the building. Listening to the loud crashing of the waves while on the balcony was wonderful. I did a lot of work on the balcony and there was no problem with the internet. Ditto with inside the unit. The connection and speed were great. It was nice walking to the food trucks, restaurants and clothing shops on the edge of the property. The grounds were well kept, and I always felt safe. The air conditioning had multiple controls and they were well labeled. The lights and fans were also well labeled and there was no question about how to make something work. The kitchen had more implements than any other unit I have rented. Not only was there a corkscrew for the wine bottles, but it also had a wine bottle stopper for when the cork doesn't come out cleanly. There were more cooking items in the kitchen than I have in my home. The closet had an ice chest and items for the pool but we didn't use them. The bed felt mushy & I thought I would have trouble sleeping but even though we use a hard bed at home, we had no trouble sleeping and no back problems in the morning. Living room chairs and the couch were not very comfortable but they were clean and in good condition. We did not use the loft.

This is a nice 2br condo with 2 floors. Well equipped and right on the beach. The only negative was the fact that there are literally no comfortable seating options anywhere in the condo. We found ourselves lying on the bed mostly for comfort. The 2nd floor bed mattress is very thin and needs a replacement. The grounds are nice. There is a nice hot tub but so many chemicals that it burned your eyes. A note for future guests, this is a privately owned condo so therefore you can’t use the resort provided pool toys, towels etc. The unit has beach towels and chairs but they are mismatch. A few simple improvements and this is 5 star condo. The area itself is very rustic and there are lots of food trucks but I can’t say we were comfortable walking at night, it felt a little gettoish.

The beach is NOT swimmable! very rough waves and tons of Portuguese man of war(2 ppl got stung while we were at shore right then).There are HOMELESS TENTS nearby, surely the pics do not show those.I just filed a dispute with my CC since the owners refused to compensate for all the troubles we had(i am on FaceBook Kauai group and ppl suggested it).Rice cooker was not useable(i did ask them X2 before/after booking bc my kid has food allergy, replaced on 3rd day), ceiling fan in the loft was defective(my kids were not comfortable till they replaced on the 3rd day), 1 cooktop burner was defective(they blamed on me not knowing how to use the fan and the burner).The #1 was we stayed for 9 nights and on the 7th night there was a loud humming noise(50db) coming from an adjacent unit which even made the room vibrate, so me and my hubby ended up sleeping in the livingroom(couch and floor)--the room was NOT suitable for sleep. the resort maintenance came the next day and he knew exactly what it was about(it seemed he had dealt with it before--a ceiling fan below us). the remaining nights we were anxious to sleep bc we were worried if the noise would return.It was supposed to be a special family vacation for us and we paid high for this unit and things were simply far less than perfect which is so disappointing despite the Premier Host title.I have asked them to DISCLOSE the bedroom noise on website! we have stayed at other condos in Maui...and never had issues like those!

Bed linens were poor. Unit dated. Charges were much higher than if we had rented directly from the resort. Location was excellent. View could not be better and swim able beach near by. Easy walk to Kapaa center.

This very clean beachfront condo was perfect for us. Communication was easy and access was even easier. The condo was very clean and quiet. We appreciate it being able to walk into town. We could see the whales in the far distance blowing spouts. The water in front of the condo was perfect for teaching my niece how to snorkel. We had a fantastic week and we’ll probably return in the future.

Great location and views. Very clean and welcoming. The living room furniture is actually updates from photos and has two recliners now. Such an easy place to walk by the icean or into town for a large choice of food options. We only used our rental one day for a quick trip to Poipu. The resort has a lot of easy to use recreational activities. Good communication with Property Manager.

Every other lani had a chase lounge, except this one. The King bed was comfortable (though a bit hard to turn in as it is memory foam). We barely used the kitchen so can't speak on that, but it seemed to be well stocked. The water pressure in the shower was not great, but it was a nice big walk in shower. You can't use the towels at the pool because this condo is privately owned. There are only 5 beach towels provided, so you have to wash the towels if you're doing a lot of swimming. The amenities on the property are wonderful, especially for a family: ping pong, putt putt golf, crochet, tennis. Plus the condo provides some coffee and plenty of laundry and first aid supplies. There are also several beach chairs and an umbrella available. All in all, we loved the property, but a comfortable place to put your feet up on the lani would have been preferable. If we go again, we would probably choose a different condo that was owned by the resort as there is a slight feeling you get from the staff that you are not really part of the resort because you are in a privately owned condo.

The location was perfect for excursions to either the North or South shores. The walking/bike path is steps away,and bike rentals less than one block away. Watching the sunrise from the balcony and while walking on the long, paved walking path were highlights of the trip. Staying in Kapa'a gave easy access to the whole island as it is centrally located, and only 15 minutes from the airport. Even though it is clearly not a new building, the property was clean and accommodating. Garden Island Properties was great to deal with when I had a question (Claire was particularly helpful). We would happily stay again!

We only had a short stay. Property is exactly as described. Kitchen is very well supplied. Enjoyed have beach towels and chairs available. Host was very easy to work with and helpful.

The condo was exactly as the pictures showed. We had plenty of space for out family of four and everything was there that we needed. The views were amazing and we enjoyed many a sunrise sitting on the balcony drinking our morning coffee. We were within a short walking distance of the shops/cafes/restaurants and the walking path right outside our door was also great. The amenities of the complex like tennis courts/swimming pool/equipment rentals for the beach/putting green/etc were used quite a bit and it was convenient to have all of that on the property. Overall we enjoyed our stay, never had any issues or concerns and would definitely stay here again.

Other guests would bring their cup of coffee and just sit by the water, watching the sunrise. There was a paved walk in front of the resort where the public could walk or ride bikes, but it was never noisy. The AC was great to have on those hot afternoons. With the king-size bed in the main level, the queen bed and twin bed in the loft, we had more than enough room for the four of us. The beach chairs, umbrella and cooler were useful. The only drawback was having one bathroom and the laundry not being in the unit, but those were managable. Lots of restaurants and stores nearby. Kauai is our favorite island!

Great location. Rooms all had fans and AC. Bed was too soft for me but others might like. The apartment is dated and we had issues with the sliding door but other than that everything was fine. Property is great. Pool,hot tub, walking distance to shops and restaurants. I would stay here again.

This unit was the perfect location, clean and close to shopping/ restaurant. Great walks along the ocean! Groundskeepers were always out keeping the place looking great.
