The Neighborhood:

History lovers can walk the scenic, live‑oak‑lined trails of the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, where Civil War bunkers still stand. Nature enthusiasts will love the island’s two state‑managed coastal preserves: Carolina Beach State Park, home to rare Venus flytraps found naturally only in this region, and the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, known for pristine beaches, marshes, and wildlife viewing. Both offer beautiful opportunities for hiking, paddling, fishing, and spotting pelicans or even nesting loggerhead sea turtles.

After a day outdoors, unwind on your private balcony with a sunset cocktail, or head into town to explore the best of Carolina Beach. The Carolina Beach Boardwalk, ranked one of the Top 10 Boardwalks in the U.S. by Food & Wine, features classic seaside fun—local restaurants, an arcade, ice cream shops, bars, and the famous Britt’s Donuts. In summer, enjoy weekly fireworks and live entertainment, carnival rides, family nights, and Flamingo BINGO. Off‑season brings signature island events like the Cape Fear Kite Festival, Christmas by the Sea, and the Island of Lights Festival. Pleasure Island offers something unforgettable for every traveler—adventure, relaxation, and the perfect coastal escape.

Getting Around:

Getting around Pleasure Island is a breeze! While parking can be limited in peak season, especially in popular spots, paid private or public parking is available. We recommend exploring Carolina Beach and Kure Beach on foot or by bike – they're super walkable and bike-friendly. You'll find safe pedestrian and bike routes, including the Island Greenway. Renting a golf cart or bike is easy, too, with several local rental companies. Golf carts are one of the easiest ways to cruise around the island. Rentals are simple to arrange, and once you're behind the wheel, you can zip along any road posted 35 mph or under.

Nice property. I hope the beach erosion can be controlled. Really enjoyed the back porch.

I’ve never left a bad review before — for a rental, a meal, or anything — but I truly wish someone had told me the truth about this property. Check-in was easy and the view is nice, but everything else felt worn out and neglected. The unit was stale and cluttered with dated beach decor. Bedding was old and faded, blankets so worn we packed them away. The master tub was rusted and stained with no drain cover. Fixtures were loose, vanities wobbly, and cookware mismatched and old. Granite countertops were the only thing that felt updated. The beach was the biggest letdown. At high tide, it disappears. At low tide, it’s rocky and steep with a dangerous drop-off — completely unsafe for children. We had to climb through someone else’s tent just to return to the stairs. It was nothing like what was pictured or described.Worse, the building has serious safety concerns: rotted beams on the porch, cracked structural posts, and loose deck boards. We didn’t contact the rental agency because we knew nothing would be done. We were stuck. The stay was locked in, the money was gone, and no one was going to move us. We tried to make the best of it — but we left a day early.

We were surprised to see sand dunes and so little beach until the tide receded, revealing massive rocks. High tide prevented walking or setting up chairs, etc. We enjoyed the unit, nice decor, comfortable. We did not enjoy the cockroaches and feces on the bedspread, even though a sign on the frig indicated this is normal with regular pest control applications.

We stayed during the August tropical storm - so our weather was not ideal, but we still enjoyed the trip! The large deck and comfortable chairs allowed us more ocean front viewing time since we could not always be on the beach. And the proximity to the beach and beach access allowed us to run back and forth when needed due to the rain. The common areas were nicely decorated and clean. The space was a bit smaller than expected. We were a group of 4 so everything worked out but if we would have planned to use the pullout couch for more people it would have been uncomfortably tight. There were a few items that could use attention - the sliding doors were very difficult to slide, and would not always fully close. During the height of the storm we had water coming in through the sliding doors. Also the bathrooms could use some updating. All in all it was a nice place and we would recommend.

We had a very nice time here. The location was perfect and convenient. The place was very good but a few adjustments could make it great. The parking was easy and it was a quick walk up some stairs to enter the unit. The unit had some updates in the main area and kitchen that were nice. The main area was decorated well but overcrowded. It was uncomfortable for all three of us to sit on the sofa to watch tv. The kitchen had lots of pots, skillets, utensils and gadgets. However, they were very dirty. Lipstick on cups, dried food, nasty cutting board, etc. The second bedroom was cute with two twin beds and a small tv and the bathroom was just outside the door. There was a large roach that we had to kill one morning. The master bedroom was too crowded with furniture and it was very difficult to enter the tiny master bathroom because of the nightstand blocking the doorway. The furniture was also very old. Neither of the bathrooms were updated at all and the master needed a new shower head. The master bathroom was also dirty with balls of hair and some rodent droppings, the shower tub didn’t seem clean so we wore our flip flops. The patio was amazing and overlooked the ocean. It had one pvc lounge chair. It had a high top table and two chairs. We wished it had regular chairs because our legs would fall asleep.
