Stayed Oct 31, 2025The Breakhouse was amazing. It was truly home away from home and a great jumping point for exploring Costa Rica. We especially enjoyed our morning coffee where we were greeted every day by our resident howler monkeys, humming birds, white winged doves, grackles and the beautiful family of 4 Macaws. Getting to know the very friendly locals running the amazing nearby restaurants was a bonus; Pura Vida indeed!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We really enjoyed the luxury of a clean and comfortable home in a safely gated neighborhood with all the amenities while getting the authentic experience of being just 30 mins outside the touristy town of Tamarindo. Nestled in a lush environment with monkeys, beautiful birds and lovely tropical landscape. Close enough to beach with great surfing and 3 of the most amazing restaurants nearby! Tried all the dining and adventure recommendations provided by the owner in the house website…they were spot on! We loved them all! A unique and fantastic family vacation.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969I highly recommend staying at The Breakhouse in Playa Avellanas! The accommodations were fantastic and I couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else. After talking to other travelers we realized just how lucky we were to be in such a safe, clean, and beautiful place. We were close to the beach, had a pool just steps away from the house, wildlife all around. It was also an easy drive to many other towns and activities.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969The bedrooms are big and decor is spot on for the surf theme. Kitchen has more than expected - feels like a home where you really can cook versus many we’ve stayed in that are more for warming up food. The semi-private pool was private to us as the only other house inhabited in our complex had a working family who we barely saw. Beds were firm. Towels soft and lots of them. For first time Costa Rica visitors - the roads are terrible. The last 20 min of this drive is what we experience often in Costa Rica. Be prepared with how to change a flat tire. It’s likely. Recommended restaurants nearby are good - especially Il Rustico and Lola’s.
