Nestled at the foot of Ice Mountain and just beyond the shore of the North River, your luxurious mountain lodge awaits. Made of impressive 100 year old logs and custom designed by international designer, Stephen Bauer, Mountainaire guarantees a stylish and comfortable getaway. The huge, screened in wrap around porch is where you’ll want to spend your days, taking in the mountain views while listening to the flowing waters of the North River. Sip espresso from the hand bent hickory rocking chairs. Light a fire in the outdoor stone stacked fireplace. Dine alfresco around the 12 person solid wood French farm table. Or curl up with a good book on one of the 4 outdoor iron beds. Feeling like a dip Enjoy either the 3 season plunge spa on the deck (open early May - late September) or the 7 person hot tub (open Early October - Late April), or simply gather around the fire table with your favorite wine and 10 of your closest friends.
Once inside, the romance deepens. You enter and are amazed by the soaring ceiling of the open air living space, that includes a kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is full size with dual dishwashers, stove, refrigerator, granite counters, and everything your inner chef desires. Also on this floor, you’ll find a half bath, laundry area, and master suite. The master suite boasts a king size four poster bed, and adjoining master bath. The caramel marble tiled master bath has a large tub, oversized separate shower with jets to massage all your worries away. Also, within the shower is a steam feature. Other extras include large closets and a heated towel rack.
Journey to the second floor to discover three bedrooms and another full bath. The cherry room, aptly named because the entire room is paneled in cherry wood, has an antique iron four poster queen size bed. The white room is a cozy space featuring a full size bed. Both rooms have oversized closets, cow skin rugs, and rustic touches. The third room, inspired by the iconic red barns of the North East, features 2 twin beds, with trundles.
The lower floor is all about fun. Here you’ll find 3 bunk beds tucked in beneath the stairs. For more sleeping space, take advantage of the 2 trundle beds beneath. There’s also a generous bathroom featuring a slate shower. Grab a beer from the old coke fridge and play a game of billiards on our 1963 Valley Pool Table. Keep the night going with a fun game of darts, or settle in for movie night on the large projector screen. We’ve purposefully eliminated TV to give you that unplugged feeling, but netflix is available.
Take a short walk to the river, and you’ll pass a fire ring that beckons for late night smores. Settle around the fire in the oversized Adirondack chairs and drink in the black night sky ablaze with a billion stars. Not to be missed is the mini log cabin tree house.

SNOW / ICE IN THE WINTER MONTHS
Please be advised that we are located in a fairly remote area, and even the State roads are not always plowed and salted immediately. We strongly recommend 4WD vehicles when inclement weather is likely. The last mile is a well maintained gravel road, and during regular weather conditions, non-4WD vehicles have no issues with access, however, when there is ice or snow, access can be challenging. We do have a snow plowing service that plows when we get more than 4 of snow.

Please be advised that our property is equipped with external video and audio surveillance, and noise sensors.

Stayed here for my 40th birthday, which justified the higher price point. Well worth the rate for this property! The heated soaking tub was a hit! We caught a few smallmouth bass. The fireplace was great too! WiFi was good - was able to stream the college football game on YouTube TV. Comfortable beds, high end linens and towels. Kitchen is set up for hosting. All in all, a phenomenal, and quiet, property!

All of us...ages 9 months to almost 80 enjoyed our stay here immensely. The inside is more than comfortable but the outside screen porch and deck area are outstanding! The hike up Ice Mountain was just right for the 9 year old and the 80 year old as well...with a sensational view as a reward. The plunge pool provided literally hours of good fun for the children and adults alike. The weather was perfect so we didn't spend too much time indoors but there appeared to be lots to do inside too...pool table, darts, games galore, projector and screen. The hosts are very responsive and it is obvious they tried hard to anticipate every need. A lovely family weekend was had by all.

If you want a place to relax and refresh, this is the place. This house is quiet, big enough to have privacy from other guests, and laid out well for game nights around the table or s'mores at the fire table or fire pit. We enjoyed the covered porch- sitting in the rocking chairs and having dinners. Ice Mountain was a nice hike. The house itself was welcoming and accommodating for space. There was room to have privacy from the other guests in our party, and plenty of family space to enjoy each other's company. We went to Winchester, Virginia for a few hours one day and Capone Bridge. Otherwise we were content on the property. This house had something for everyone. We did find the house in need of a good deep cleaning in the showers and kitchen, but given the busy season for renting we assumed somethings had been overlooked. That aside, we would and have highly recommended this house.

Beautiful home. Very well equipped. Amazing outside space with wrap around porch, tons of comfortable seating, plunge pool and fire pits. Very secluded and isolated so you can relax. Many interesting activities but you will have to drive about an hour to most of them Owner was very easy to get in touch and responded quickly to our questions Highly recommend

This gorgeous cabin lacks for nothing. The kitchen is completely stocked with anything you might need and beautiful appliances. Stephen and Mary provided an abundance of towels, linens and other toiletries. The house has so many unique touches that make it feel more like a home than just a rental, and overall it is tastefully comfortable with very high quality furnishings. Hands down, the screened in wrap around porch was our family's favorite feature. The deck and plunge pool were both beautiful and offered a wonderful place for the kids to play. The path down to the river is short and the lighting was very much appreciated once it got dark. My granddaughters (ages 4 and 6) slept in the bunk beds in the basement and loved it. The bathrooms are both spacious and opulent. Truly, words cannot capture the wonder of this property. This was our first vacation as an entire extended family and we couldn't have chosen a better place.

The property has a large variety of activities to keep a family entertained: pool table, darts, hot tub, fire pits, cornhole, board games, and more. We were unlucky in that our trip fell during bad weather that kept us from fishing or hiking. However, the entire family had a great time!
