Beautiful 3 bedroom 2.5 bath log home on 2 private acres tucked away in the gated community of Gateway Mountain. This was our full time residence and we left everything there, so it will have everything a fully functional home should have.

The trailhead to the Gateway Waterfall is just a few steps down the road. If you go a bit further you'll stumble upon Lake George, where you can enjoy the covered dock with a nice view of the lake and the Gateway ridges. Many hiking/walking loops mapped out in the Cabin's information book.

Our first level is open concept with cathedral ceilings that will give you the true log cabin experience. Island counter top and large hand crafted dining room table provide plenty of room to prepare food and gather with family and friends. Living area with smart 50 TV. Two bedrooms - one queen, and one with two twins. The second level is the master suite with attached bathroom. Jacuzzi bathtub and walk in shower.

Covered porch and deck encompassing two full sides of the cabin. Weber grill and patio furniture to enjoy the deck to its fullest. Smoker (14 Weber Smokey Mountain) is available to use if you want to try smoking meat for the first time or perform your patented smoke.

Jotul wood-burning stove for cozy winter/fall warmth. Outdoor fire pit out back to enjoy the stars and mountain peace. Wood is provided.

Towns of Old Fort and Black Mountain only 20-30 minutes away. East Asheville 40 minutes. Lake Lure 35 minutes.

Old Fort has a growing restaurant/brewery scene, including Hillman and Whaley Farm Breweries. Catawba Falls just outside of Old Fort has reopened with updated hiking trails! Also check out the new G5 Trail Collective! For mountain bikers, just up the mountain from Old Fort is Kitsuma Peak and if you are a serious biker come in July for the Jerdon Mountain Challenge! The Gateway Trails off Curtis Creek in Old Fort have multi-use trails for all skill levels.

Quickest route to the Blue Ridge Parkway is taking 80 just outside of Marion. Once on the parkway go NE towards Little Switzerland, Altapass, and Linville Falls. Or go SW towards Mount Mitchell State Park, Craggy Gardens, and get off in Asheville right by the NC Arboretum! The views on the parkway are best on clear days when the peaks are not covered by clouds, take the time to just cruise and stop at all the lookout points.

There are many hikes that are kid friendly as well. Some of our kids favorite are Toms Creek Falls, Bearwallow Mountain, and Lake Tomahawk.
Other places to check out with kids is the WNC Nature Center, Robert Lake Park, Hickory Nut Gap, and our favorite for adults and kids is Whistle Hop Brewery!

I could go on and on about places to check out! (There is a drawer full of pamphlets and information in the table behind the couch.) We are at a central location for any outdoor enthusiasts! There is so much to check out around the cabin that you will have to come again to see all that the area has to offer! (Plus, don't forget to check out the trails that are right within the Gateway Community!)

We hope you feel at home at our favorite place!

Pros: The location is great. We really enjoyed being able to walk to a waterfall from the cabin. It's a beautiful walk. We also enjoyed sitting on the porch and enjoying the scenery. The host was always quick to respond to any communication.Cons: The cabin is in need of pest control. We encountered lots of spiders, two cockroaches (the small ones) in the kitchen, ants, and some kind of large beetle inside the house. When I contacted the host after we saw the roaches, he responded immediately, and he did offer to refund our money if we wanted to check out. Because we would have had to find another place to stay for the next two nights and we really wanted to be in a cabin in the mountains, we decided to stick it out. We vacuumed up all the spiders and spiderwebs, and we only saw roaches the first morning. The fridge was smelly from something that was left in there. Because you have to take the trash to the county dump when you check out, we just dealt with the smell because I didn't want to have that smell in my car.The location really is amazing, and the cabin itself is nice. With some pest control and a fridge clean out, I'm sure it will continue to get excellent ratings.

Beautiful cabin. Clean and well stocked. Easy check in. Great development with an excellent waterfall and private lake. No complaints at all. I think it should be mentioned that the roads to get to the cabin are a climb for a flat lander like me ( I’m from Florida). Probably not out of the ordinary for the mountains. Highly recommend. I will definitely stay again. I only mention the climb so if you are not used to such roads you can be prepared.

We had an absolutely lovely time. The house was immaculate and was stocked beyond measure with everything that you could’ve thought you wanted and forgot to pack. We appreciated how isolated the house was, to have our own little retreat. We even got to see a Mama Bear and her two little cubs. We LOVED the waterfalls and hiking opportunities.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was very nice in a beautiful setting. We especially enjoyed the walks to the lake and waterfall, and just hanging out together on the porch or in the living/dining area. The hosts were very responsive and helpful.

My family and I stayed here for Memorial Day weekend and had the most relaxing and wonderful time. The house is very clean and cozy and fully stocked with everything we needed and more. The property is beautiful and we loved walking to see the waterfall! The drive to downtown Asheville was not bad at all and we loved being able to stay somewhere more secluded and explore nature!
