Towhee is a bright, comfortable, stylish, private cabin in the woods, a short drive from Viroqua. Towhee, named for this sprightly bird spotted on one of the trails on the Driftless Creek property. Highlights of Towhee include a screened porch, well-appointed kitchen, private bedroom and spacious loft with king bed. Towhee sleeps 5.

The space --

Driftless Creek offers light-filled, clean-lines, full-amenity modern cabins, each private from the other, nestled in the woods, a 15minute drive from Viroqua. Down a scenic dirt road, and up a private driveway, you will enter our 75 acres of ridgetop forest between two spring-fed streams. We offer almost 2 miles of trails on property for hiking, mountain-biking, or snow-shoeing. Adjacent state natural areas on 3 sides enhance the remote wilderness feeling. The quiet is restorative and the dark nights are perfect for star-gazing. This really might be the place where you pick up a book or a well-maintained ukulele or guitar we provide, or let the hours go by in a hammock on the screened porch. We are known for top-quality comfort, including memory foam mattresses with 100% cotton and down bedding, glass and tile showers with a heated bathroom fan, Jøtul wood stoves inside and fire rings outside with seasoned firewood at the ready, and heating and cooling options that keep you cozy no matter the season. Our wifi is network grade. Our water is sourced from a deep well and filtered. And our kitchens are stocked with everything you need, including a dishwasher, coffee maker, coffee grinder, and local coffee beans. Our cabins are sparkling clean and we guarantee that everything on premises is fully operational. Driftless Creek offers a place for you to gather yourself, your family, your friends, and even your pets, surrounded by the abundance and peace of nature and all that the area has to offer. Whether it is the beautiful rolling hills, the trout streams, the inspired food offerings, or the charming towns, we look forward to hosting you in the Driftless area of Wisconsin.

Other details --

The kitchen includes a compact refrigerator, cooktop, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, coffee grinder, dishes and cooking supplies. The kitchen does not include an oven.

A Weber gas grill is available for your use on the porch.

The bathroom includes a European style combined washer/dryer unit.

We have commercial grade WIFI, with fiber optic cable run to the property, with 100Mbit downloads, allowing you to stream movies or videoconference. There is no TV in the cabin.

There is a private bedroom with a queen size bed on the first floor, and a loft with both a king and twin bed.

The large screened in porch is accessible via the side door and has additional seating, a dining table and chairs, and a hammock.

Bed linens, towels and extra blankets are provided.

Because the cabin is shaded, the ceiling fan is often sufficient for cooling, and we also provide a high capacity window AC unit that can cool the entire cabin.

Heating includes baseboard electric heaters controlled by a thermostat, supplemental heat in the kitchen, and the option to use a Jøtul wood stove (with all fire starting materials and ample seasoned wood).

We love our canine friends, and your dog is welcome and will enjoy walking on the trails. (2 dogs max)

You will have access to the entire property, including our almost 2 miles of hiking / mountain biking / snowshoe trails.

We are a 15 minute drive south of downtown Viroqua with great restaurants and shopping. Be sure to check out the Driftless cafe, the Food Coop, Parish Music and Driftless books.

Note -- We plow and salt our private drive after snowfalls but all-wheel drive or a 4x4 vehicles can be helpful in the winter.

We had a great stay at Driftless Creek. Rodney was helpful, friendly, and happy to provide advice about the grounds and nearby Viroqua. Also very quick to plow/salt/sand the driveway after a night’s snow. Towhee was a gorgeous, well-appointed little cabin, perfect for two. We could both imagine being there in the summer with it’s fantastic screened in porch overlooking the forest. Loved this place! We will be back. Thank you!

Rodney has an incredible property in the heart of the Driftless Area. My wife and our son were looking for a cozy cabin weekend not too far outside of Chicago, and our experience couldn't have been any better. It's not a big cabin, but it's so smartly designed that we even invited two other friends and brought along both of our dogs, and we *still* didn't feel like we were stepping on top of each other. I would 100-percent stay again. Thanks, Rodney!

We love this cabin! It's beautiful yet simple. Has everything you need. You're immersed in the woods. Cozy feel on the screened-in porch. Can walk on the property and drive to spectacular long hikes. It's a perfect get-away. We come at least once a year. Rodney is a wonderful and helpful host.

Was looking for a secluded get away with me and my dog and this place delivered. The cabin was modern with a nice kitchen, more than enough space for us, air conditioned, nice porch and screened in area to keep the bugs out. Enjoyed cooking on the outdoor gas grill and walking the trails on the property. Be advised some trails are pretty rough going and you should dress appropriately for burrs. There is a small prairie on the slope of the ridge and it's beautiful. We had a great time. Owner provided lot's of info about the area and what to see/do in Viroqua. Would definitely visit again.

The cabin is a perfect place to get away. Rodney's property is nestled down the road and up the hill. It feels like you are all alone in the world, yet still a quick jaunt to Viroqua for incredible food and activities. We were here for a week and the drive and views never grew old. The cabin itself is GORGEOUS and you can feel the love that was built into it. Rodney was receptive and responsive and made the stay absolutely perfect.

We returned to the Driftless Creek cabins for a second stay last week, and once again had a wonderful time. The cabins are designed for the comfort and convenience of visitors, provisioned with super comfy mattresses, Wonderstate whole-bean coffee, toiletries, and everything you might need in the kitchen if you plan on cooking a meal or two on-site. We didn't use the woodstove or firepit, but the hosts have also prepared kindling and wood for guests who wish to do so. The walking trails just beyond each cabin are absolutely wonderful! The bergamot was in full bloom during our visit, and the prairie smelled amazing. The Merlin birdsong ID app on my phone got a workout, and it was so nice to bring our dogs (they had a blast on our many walks). The cabin has a ton of books as well as a hammock in which to read them, and it was nice to hear my husband play the guitar again. We lost connection to the Wifi once, and Rodney was super-prompt and helpful in getting it restored quickly. Other highlights of our visit: hiking the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, dining at Kos in Wesby, and attending the local radio station's (WDRT) first block party - what a great community! We adore the area and hope to return again soon. Thank you, Rodney & family, for being such exceptional hosts!

My husband and I did not see another human being over the 4 nights we stayed. Exactly what we wanted! We knew Rodney was available at any point but the cabin was well equipped so had no need to contact him. The trails are well laid out with random benches to just sit and listen. We would love to come back someday!

Cabin is in the woods and in the middle of an area with some great fly fishing. The design was nice, everything worked well and I would come back. Nice touches like balnkets/books, reading lights, hammock etc that make it really ease to like the stay.
