Guerneville, California
Year Round Fun! This is an amazing family cabin tucked in among the redwoods. The location is ideal. Literally just steps away from the Russian River with a private dock, you can't get much closer to the river without falling in.
The house itself is a gem. Having been redone multiple times, it is a beautiful blend of classic traditional with the right amount of new touches. Stunning redwood batten board throughout the house sets the perfect backdrop for the house.
The house has been raised off the street and has a great deck off the front which is perfect for summertime barbeques and enough room to accommodate teak cocktail chairs with a modular square cocktail table, a round picnic table with chairs and piazza lights. Perfect for winding down in the evenings following a great day on the river.
As you enter the house, there is a great room with a phenomenal fireplace. The nearly 20-foot ceilings scream for you to sit by the fire and enjoy a glass (bottle ) of your favorite found chardonnay or pinot.
And, the back enclosed porch is a wonderful gathering place for dining and lounging with views of the surrounding vistas.
The house really is a great place to getaway to. The access to the river is amazing. The dock is a great way to enjoy the water. Whether you want to rent paddle boats or canoes from Johnson's Beach or just lounge on an inner-tube or raft, there is something special about just going for a swim in the river.
For the beach-goers, Johnson's beach is less than a mile and is a great walk.
For the SPORTSMAN, the fishing is great. Do that from the dock, wade upstream and use the adjacent beach, or take a short drive out to Jenner or Bodega to charter a trip. Some friends of ours often plan abalone dives and use the river as a homebase.
If you are into GOLF, the Northwoods golf course is only 3.8 miles from the house. Designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie in 1928, the course is a classic MacKenzie design with 9 holes winding through giant redwood trees. (This is the same architect who designed Cypress Point, Augusta National, Meadow Club, Pasatiempo and many other great courses).
For the WINE lover, the list of amazing Russian River wineries is tremendous. Korbel does a terriffic tour and has a really great deli and picnic area. Gary Farrell is one of the most well respected wine makers around, producing some super premium wines. Porter Creek is a little more laid back ... and a lot of fun.
For the FOODIES, there is a wide variety. Everything from tasty comfort food and special breakfast places (See: The River Inn, Piknik Town Market) to pizza to brewery / pub food (Stumptown Brewery) to high end / romantic / special dinners at Applewoods and Boon. And, delicious eats and mezcal at El Barrio.
For the KIDS, there are a ton of possible adventures. One of our favorites continues to be Pee Wee Golf & Arcade which is just across the river from town (about a mile from the house) and Rio Nido Pee Wee Golf. Armstrong Woods is very nearby and a great spot to stand among giant redwood trees. There are hiking trails here but also a flat walkable area.

Wonderful property with a very communicative host. The dock and river access made for an exceptional trip!
Erin’s place made for an incredible weekend with family. The house was very cozy, with amazing views from the dining table, and wonderful flourishes of history throughout. And to top it all off, the backyard and deck made us question how we got so lucky. We truly appreciated how accommodating Erin was, thanks so much, Erin! We cant wait to come back.
We loved the cabin. It was a perfect combination of rustic, cozy, and spacious for 2 adults and 4 teens. We enjoyed the modern shower with views of redwoods, the fully equipped kitchen, the great room with fireplace, and the dining room overlooking a field and more trees. We loved having a sunset cocktail on the private deck by the river. The whole weekend was so relaxing, even with 4 teens along.
Very cozy, warm, and accommodating
This property has it all. Rustic nostalgic Russian River appeal with so much history to appreciate. The owner was easy to work with and quick to respond to questions. Location and amenities. Couldn't ask for more. We want to return next year.
We had a great time visiting Guerneville and enjoying all its offerings. The home is as advertised. Rustic but very clean. The location can’t be beat. The private dock with easy access from the house really makes the place special. We highly recommend and will be sure to visit again.
We had one of the best weekends of our lives staying at Erin’s place! The home has its quirks (low lights in the bedrooms, sound travels through the walls), but its charms grow on you quickly and it all feels rather cozy and perfect for a group looking to spend time together. The kitchen was fully stocked and meticulously labeled; we enjoyed using the oven and grill and eating on the table on the patio outside during our stay! Neighbors were friendly and the fact that the home is at the end of the street meant we didn’t have to worry as much about noise. Wifi was good and communication with the host easy and prompt. And the deck that looks out on to the river - WOW! Picture postcard view that you’ll never ever get tired of. We hope to be back many more times in the future!
The location is excellent. If that were my place, I’d add a deck to the back of the house and a hot tub. Other than that, it was perfect!
Overall a cozy and comfortable place. Felt at home as if I lived there. Everyone who stayed and visited loved the place!
Everyone loved Frank and Erin's cozy, charming, and relaxing house by the river! The dining room is filled with daylight, the kitchen is fully equipped and the large living room around the massive fireplace make this the perfect place for families. The dock on the river and the nice beach right across are just the icing on the cake! Will definitely try to come back!
Lots of rental homes now feel like targeted holiday rentals, a bit generic. This one is unmistakably an older multi-generational family holiday home, with the decor, quirks, and personality to match. Everything was smooth and in good condition, and if you are in season for the dock, it is a lovely hangout spot, a bit farther from the road. The owners were responsive and helpful to get the dock in for the season, in time for our visit.
We had a nice time staying here overall. Pros: The location is great, so close to town and the private dock is very nice plus. Cons: the home is very rustic, feeling very dusty and lots of cobwebs. It's also very dark and generally feeling of old. Cozy vibes though. The dock doesn't have any furniture or shade, BYO chairs, and is down a lot of stairs and a bit of a distance from the house. Not crazy far but something to note if your abilities are limited.
We had a really good time at Erin’s place where we spent a couple of nights. The property is located by the Russian river east of Guerneville. Throughout, we found the place to be quite authentic, rustic with all the charm that goes with it. It comes with everything you need, especially in the kitchen, which was perfect as we had planned on cooking. We were able to use the fireplace (a very large fireplace) and the outdoor grill, both working fine. The WIFI and bluetooth both worked great too. One of the key benefit was the direct access to the river, where we could launch our canoes from, very handy. We also liked the proximity to the downtown, brewery, vineyard, etc. A very practical location. Some notes to be aware, there is quite a flight of stair to enter the home, the street access is relatively narrow, and the main road is really close. Some areas of improvements… well not many really, the description is accurate from the listing (so our expectations were set). Overall, we had a great weekend. Thanks
