Frankfort, Michigan
This is a very cozy, comfortable, and charming cabin with beautiful woodwork throughout! The styling makes it a great getaway cabin for either summer or winter. It's located in a quiet, heavily-forested area with a seasonal view of Crystal Lake through the trees. It includes high-speed Wi-Fi, live streaming television, a lovely gas fireplace, shared Crystal Lake access with a dock, and some exercise equipment. It truly provides for a quiet and relaxing getaway to northern Michigan!
(1) Up to 2 dogs are permitted with a paid pet fee. More than 2 dogs or pets other than dogs are strictly prohibited.
(2) The other side of the road used to be Camp Crystalaire on Crystal Lake. It is no longer in existence and is now just a heavily forested area, but this area of the lake has a rich history and the cabin is named after the camp.
The cabin is on the side of a hill that overlooks the south side of Crystal Lake. It's a heavily-forested area that consists primarily of very large, expensive, and secluded homes that are on Crystal Lake or overlook the lake. It's a very quiet, peaceful, and relaxing neighborhood.
There is a seasonal view of Crystal Lake from the cabin through the trees. The opposite side of the road used to be Camp Crystalaire. It's no longer in existence, but the cabin is named after the camp. There are a group of 4 homes that share access to Crystal Lake. There is a path down to the Crystal Lake access area and there is a dock there that is shared by the 4 homes. Guests are welcome to use the dock for swimming or fishing.
The cabin is quite close to the Lobb Road boat launch on Crystal Lake, which works great if you are bringing a boat and want to use it on Crystal Lake. The driveway forms a half circle, is quite large, and there should be space for most boats and boat trailers in the driveway.
Outside of the immediate neighborhood, the home is just a few miles from downtown Frankfort, which has a charming collection of shops, restaurants, cafes, and a microbrewery (Stormcloud). Frankfort also has a fantastic public beach on Lake Michigan and a popular historic lighthouse. The Crystalaire Cabin is also less than a 30-minute drive from both the start of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (to the north) as well as Crystal Mountain Ski Resort (to the southeast).
The house is also only about a 1-hour drive east to Traverse City. Traverse City is the business, arts, recreation, entertainment, dining, and shopping hub of all of Northern Michigan and it provides a vast variety of "bigger city" things to see and do.
The cabin has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the main floor. Each of the bedrooms has a queen-size bed in it. There is a cute loft area that has additional beds (a full-size bed and a twin bed) and some older exercise equipment (a bike and an elliptical trainer) that guests are welcome to use.
Outside, the cabin has a half-circle driveway that is quite large and includes space for a boat / boat trailer. There is a charcoal grill available for guests to use. There is also a bonfire ring next to the house that guests are welcome to use. (Note that firewood is not provided, but is available for purchase at most gas stations and grocery stores in the area.)
The cabin was so cute and cozy. Everything was super clean and linens on the beds were fresh and clean. Would definitely recommend this place and will probably go back again
Crystalaire cabin is a delight. It is cozy and comfy inside. The kitchen is well stocked with all kinds of appliances and utensils. The bathroom has plenty of towels and shampoo/conditoner/etc. plus a hair dryer. We stayed in the winter and really enjoyed that we saw pretty much nobody else the whole time - no neighbors and no traffic on the road. It's close to Crystal Mt. Ski Resort, Lake Michigan and Point Betsie Lighthouse. We couldn't get the cute fireplace to light the first night. Jean, the property manager, got a handyman over there the next day so we enjoyed the warm living room with a sweet fire after that. We would love to stay there again if we get the chance.
I was impressed with the cleanliness of the inside of the cabin. The outside furniture was dirty. The picture of the cabin online did not match the actual cabin. There was supposed to be a trail to the lake. I could not find it. I have learned that seasonal view of the lake means, you can see the lake when all of the leaves have dropped.
