READ CAREFULLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO BOOK....
Stoneturtle is a basic cabin with Japanese influences most suitable for young families, individuals and couples wishing to spend a week, or more, pond-side, relaxing, fishing, swimming, boating, barbecuing or reading, writing and painting.
I would prefer longer term rentals, minimally one week. In the case of longer rentals I may request a zoom interview, and offer a discount.
Stoneturtle is unsuitable for renters looking for hotel-like accommodations or merrymaking. It is also unsuitable for those with restricted physical movement due to the number of stairs leading down to the cabin as well as level changes in the house itself.
The rental season begins Memorial Day and extends through the middle of October.
Nearby are hiking trails, blueberry picking and historical sites. The cabin is one hour from Lake Winnepasaukee and the White Mountains, an hour and a half from Boston and less than an hour to the sea.
An overview of the cabin:
The cabin has a compact but fully equipped kitchen, a dining table for four, two small sitting areas indoors and outdoors. The living area is filled with books and artwork. The bathroom has an older shower but a new toilet and hot water heater. Sleeping is on futon mattresses placed directly on the reed-matted tatami floor.
Please do not wear shoes indoors and instead bring slippers of extra socks. Absolutely no shoes allowed on the tatami floored rooms.
If you are not interested in removing your shoes indoors, then please do not attempt to book a stay.
There is no linen or towel laundering services provided so bring your own sheets and towels. Basic materials for cleaning are provided.
There is a canoe and a kayak stored under the house with life vests available. There is a picnic table, a charcoal barbecue which must be cleaned before departure and a fire pit. Obtain wood purchased locally at area markets.
All trash is taken away by you. It can be brought to the local transfer station on Tuesdays through Saturdays. The transfer station has has strict rules about separating different kinds of trash. If this arrangement is not possible for you, we can discuss an alternative plan and fee.
Upon departure be sure all lights are off, windows closed and everything clean and replaced to original location upon departure.
Failure to follow the rules will cause you to lose your deposit.
This season's stricter requirements for a stay at Stoneturtle House are because of certain recent guests who seemed not to understand the golden rule of vacation home rental sites...that you are a guest in someone’s home...not in a hotel.

This property is one where the pictures don't really do it justice. The location on the lake is just beautiful, especially in Fall. Sitting around the fire with an almost private lake in front of us was just calming and the weekend getaway we needed
it was so relaxing and a very interesting
The property was nicely hidden away on the pond. It was clean and had amazing views from outside and within. Highly enjoyed our stay. Would definitely return. Great place to get away from everything else and disconnect.
An harmonious and authentic stay that will leave you with fantastic memories. Peaceful and calming!
Jean Pierre's lakefront home is a gem -- it's cozy and well-appointed, with so many interesting books and pieces of art to look at. However, I hardly had time as I was sitting on the dock and blissfully staring at beautiful Huntress Pond, when I was not paddling my kayak in it! This was my second stay, and wouldn't hesitate to come back again!
My family stayed over the 4th of July weekend at the Stoneturtle Cottage. We felt cozy from the moment we entered the little house and explored the Japanese way of life with day gest originated from Japan. Despite the rainy weather we had a blast. The host was very responsive and very generous. We would love to come back another time.
The location and property are very nice, but the house itself is not so much. The kitchen and bathroom are not nice. The kitchen was severely under stocked with cleaning supplies and there was a half of a roll of toilet paper left for us to use. Cooking in this kitchen was a nightmare because it’s very small and there is hardly any room to move around. With a group of more than 2, this is very problematic. However the lake was beautiful and relaxing
Clean, peaceful
Very good experience i love te. I will come back for long time the next time. Thank you so much.
We enjoyed our stay on Huntress Pond. The cottage, the setting, and the owner far exceeded our expectations. If you want to be in a gorgeous setting with all of the amenities a New Hampshire cottage can provide, this is your place!
The house was just as described. Excellent fishing and pond time enjoyed by all. Nice place to decompress.
This vacation spot is exactly as described in the listing. The house is well-appointed, beautifully and interestingly decorated. The location on the pond is perfect, with easy water access and a great spot for swimming. Such a relaxing vacation!!
Jean-Pierre's home is the coziest property on Huntress Pond. Large pond-side trees provide ample shade and some privacy, while not blocking the view or access to the pond. A set of steps into the water and a small dock provide easy access. There was a giant snapping turtle hanging out around the dock, a few waterfowl and a number of phoebes. Our stay included 4th of July weekend, so the pond was very lively with boat activity (some of it a bit boisterous) and very impressive fireworks displays put on by the neighbors around the pond. The cottage and yard are incredibly comfortable and well equipped for relaxing, reading, napping, working puzzles, etc. The Japanese-style features and decor are labors of JP's love for Japan and add to the over charm of the place. We had a really lovely stay.
