California Hot Springs, California
Put some space between yourself and the rest of the world in this fully solar-powered cabin on it's own private road that backs into the sequoia national forest. All the primitive privacy you crave outside, while inside you can still enjoy fully-appointed kitchen, unlimited internet, 75" 4k TV, and even an oversized claw-foot tub with a gorgeous view.
Wake and take your breakfast overlooking the serene meadows as horses graze, then enjoy quiet hikes, giant trees... and the rest is up to you!
The cabin sits on a private road, so there may be one or two cars per day that pass your way (usually a lone UPS truck or a neighbor up the hill).
The closest neighbors to you are hundreds of yards away across a vast meadow. Our sparsely-populated neighborhood is a quiet, friendly, and beautiful home to a small community with one general store/part-time restaurant (Seven Oaks Market, see the guidebook for more details).
While you can stay secluded without interacting with anyone, you can also take a refreshing sunset walk along serene roads flanked by modest mountain cabins tucked in between pines and oaks. A neighbor may give you a wave hello, and horses will nod as they graze, but you're likely to be completely uninterrupted.
Quiet takes on a whole new meaning when you're here. As the night begins, the chorus of cicadas and crickets eventually gives way to a stunning silence. You almost dare not whisper as you wouldn't want to disrupt the gentle rustling of leaves. If you're an early riser, you'll be treated to the greetings of bird families slowly welcoming the sunrise.
If you want to engage locally, the Sequioa National Forest has hiking trails within a few miles, and the famed Trail of 100 Giants sequoia grove is only about 40 minutes away (check for possible road closings during winter).
The cabin itself backs up to the Sequoia National Forest, and you are invited to walk out the back door and literally step into the pristine hills where you can encounter all manner of natural flora and fauna. Do be aware, though, that this is authentic wilderness, so you could encounter wildlife such as deer, foxes, feral cows or pigs (no kidding), and even black bears and rattlesnakes.
By the way, we even provide a couple of hiking poles along with "ankle gators" that you can strap to your shins when hiking. They protect against brambles, etc. and are even rated for deflecting a rattlesnake strike.
Unless you want to stroll the beautiful neighborhood or hike out the back to the Sequoia National Forest, you'll need a car to go anywhere. The closest gathering place is 2 miles away at the general store/part-time restaurant (Seven Oaks Market, see the guidebook for more details).
If you want to engage further, the quaint California Hot Springs Spa is just 4 miles away (currently under renovation), with several hiking trails along the route. And the famed Trail of 100 Giants sequoia grove is about 40 minutes away (check for possible road closings during winter).
Please understand that the cabin is located in the Sequoia National Forest, and part of the beauty of being so remote is enjoying the natural environment. More attention to detail than any other cabin we've rented. Super cozy, large plot of land, large pond with croaking frogs, much privacy. Rustic yet modern. The online listing description of the cabin is accurate, but it doesn't fully describe how great the place is. Lots of things can be said about it, but it is the complete package that is hard to put into words but has such a wonderful vibe. We highly recommend this cabin and these hosts.
