In the warmer months common outdoor activities in the region include fishing, hiking, bird watching, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, tubing, golfing, ATV trail riding, and horseback riding.
In the winter months things don't slow down as the temperatures, snowfall, and terrain make an ideal winter wonderland. The area has many maintained trails for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling in addition to tubing and downhill skiing within a short drive. If you just want to stay warm, the indoor cozy fireplace setting and sunroom view of the river and wildlife year round will not disappoint.

We have a caretaker and cleaning staff that live within minutes of the cabin - and can help with virtually any problem. Just prior to your arrival we will send you the electronic door lock code so that you can walk right in when you arrive.
Besides having plentiful trout and wildlife to entertain you right outside your back door - you're also only minutes from the famous AuSable River - home of the "Holy Waters".
Fly fishing enthusiasts have long considered the Au Sable region as a must visit destination. As chronicled in "Fifty Places to Fly Fish Before You Die" you'll quickly appreciate the romance of this region. Experience the nearby Holy Waters, Masons Tract of the South Branch, North Branch of the AuSable, and Mio Trophy Water. In fact, it was the beauty of this region and quality of trout fishing that led to the formation of our nation's first Trout Unlimited chapter in 1959 by Au Sable river anglers. Big Creek river - flows into the AuSable just three miles downstream. Big Creek, being a tributary to the AuSable, is even considered by many to rival, the fishing on the AuSable.
We also love to help our guests plan their visit to the area and provide an area activities guide that contains key information on things to do in the area including all outdoor resources you may need and recommended restaurants and other resources in the region.
Getting to the cabin is easy in all seasons for all vehicles. The Michigan roads in this region are well maintained year round. The access road to the cabin is also maintained year round catering to 2WD vehicles. We also have a Generac standby, whole house, generator - so you never need to worry about losing power in a storm.
If our calendar is full - please check out our sister lodge, "Copper Fox Lodge", just 3 miles away on the AuSable River, HomeAway 3524057
This a beautiful and wonderfully maintained cabin and property. We had a wonderful time and everything for our stay was available.
My wife and I rolled the dice on Gold Fox Lodge for our Labor Day Weekend escape from the city, and we could not have been happier with the outcome. This camp is truly fantastic in every respect Communication from our host Jeff was solid right out of the gate - all of our questions/uncertainties were proactively answered in Jeff's very detailed emails. It was a relief to take all the guesswork out of a VRBO trip for once. The cabin and surrounding property are as 'Pure Michigan' as it gets. I have stayed at camps all over the state and this is among the most unique and beautiful. The fact that this camp is being shared with the public at all is kind of miraculous - most people who are lucky enough to have property like this keep them private, and you can understand why. This is a natural retreat that deserves to be treasured and respected by people who appreciate the setting and want these resources to be protected - hopefully for generations. As far as amenities, the cabin has just about everything - and it looked gorgeous and welcoming on our arrival. If you are missing something, there is a 'general store' two minutes down the road that has just about everything you could think of. And 'Ma Deeters' restaurant is a great spot for a casual dinner, drinks, or some takeout pizza. We did the Parmalee-to-Whirlpool tube float down the AuSable courtesy of Rainbow Resort livery, and then came back to camp to grill our steaks and shrimps. Perfect cap to a perfect weekend.
Everything we were hoping for! Absolutely gorgeous place with all the amenities you need.
Everything about the space and property was inviting. The hosts thought of everything from binoculars and bird watching books, to the custom-made mini golf course. Incredible! All the appliances and amenities were updated and clean. We cherished our experience at the beautiful Gold Fox Lodge!
What a wonderful stay we had at Gold Fox Lodge. Everything was top-notch and immaculate.
From the snow-covered pine trees to the cozy interior design of the log cabin to the warmth of the stone fireplace, everything was perfect for the winter wonderland we were hoping to experience. We couldn’t have asked for more! We can’t wait to come back!
What a treasure. This cabin was more than we could have ever imagined it could’ve been. The location was serene and beautiful. The cabin was spotless and immaculate and had everything that you possibly could need. We loved our stay so much that we scheduled another long weekend in the summer before we even made it home!!
We had a fantastic time. Beautiful cabin and great setting.
Great cabin in the woods, a beautiful experience in up north Michigan.
From the moment we booked , the owners were tremendous with their communication and thoughtful packet of helpful tips on the area. From the moment we walked into the lodge, absolute perfection! Beautiful property! Five stars is not enough, we would absolutely recommend this property and we plan on returning:)
The Golden Fox Lodge was amazing. From the time we drove up to the cabin and until the time we left, the cabin was a dream come true. It was super clean, the cabin was decorated like a picture in a magazine. It was quiet and relaxing. The water stream was so calmly just sitting outside by the creek. I wish I could pick it up and move it to where I would love to go back there some day. The hosts, Jeff and Beth were just a text away if we needed anything.
My wife and I continue to return because it is the most peaceful place on earth. Jeff and Beth, along with Shar, always make us feel welcome and at home. Everything is always absolutely perfect! Thank you!
Great stay. Although the dishwasher wasn’t working Jeff tried to make it right. Thank you!
