Dubois, Wyoming
It is comfortable and peaceful in the cabin, whether you sit in front of the wood stove on a chilly evening or enjoy the summer breeze on the deck looking out over the Wind River. Guests come here to fish, to write, to take a break from the busy-ness of a busy civilization, to let their thoughts and feelings coalesce. There is plenty of room for kids to swing on a tire swing out front and cast for their first fish. Horseback rides and waterfall hikes are right down the road. We are informal here in Dubois. The excitement comes from the kids’ rodeo as well as from the deer, geese and bunnies in the yard.
The cabin has all of the amenities-a fully stocked kitchen for cooking, with seasonings, coffee, dishes, pots & pans. The laundry room has detergent. The fire pit has wood. And the grill has charcoal & lighter fluid. There are even skewers for s’mores.
Here is the layout of the cabin: a master bedroom with queen bed and an en-suite bathroom with shower. An IKEA full sofa/bed in the kitchen, topped with an additional mattress when needed. A queen sofa/bed in the TV room as well. Please note that there is only 1 bathroom and the entrance is through the bedroom.
We try to stick to 100% cotton linens and fragrance-free chemicals in cleaning. The scent of the pine trees and sage are lovely enough.
Of course, there is Yellowstone for day trips. As well as the glitzy town of Jackson for its restaurants and shopping. Each are roughly an hour and 45 minutes from the cabin. But there is so much more right around here.
We have lots and lots of repeat guests. A number of them come a few times and then decide to make Dubois their home. In fact, that is exactly what your hosts did those many years ago.
The setting was pretty but not nearly as private as we thought. A garage apartment of some kind was right behind the cabin and there was some noise and doors shutting late into the night.
Myself, my sister and brother had not vacationed together in 40 years. We booked a week with Eleanor and Andy and had the trip of a lifetime. Dubois is such a beautiful centrally located area and the little town has everything you need if you want to be a little farther from the touristy and crowded areas. The cabin was perfect...we did rode trips everyday to all the places we wanted to see, and then came home to the cozy cabin. Even fished most days for a bit right behind the cabin. The hosts made it the best trip ever. We will be back next year. Cannot rate highly enough. I would have loved to spend one more week!!!
We loved our stay in the cabin. It was lovely to sit on the deck and hear the Wind River and watch the deer and geese right at your doorstep. The property is beautiful, the cabin was so quaint, and has everything you could possibly need. It was great meeting Eleanor and Andy. They were helpful with information, and very quick to respond, and we enjoyed the quiet little town of Dubois as a base camp for our trips back and forth to the Tetons. We can't wait to return some day!
Great place to stay! Quiet, cozy and calm was the perfect get away from our busy lives. Easy to get ahold of The Gipsons. We will be coming back!
Cute spot! We arrived to a clean cabin. The owners had supplied breakfast items to us to get started. Kitchen well equipped. Bed very comfortable with plenty of towels. We stayed 12 days and had a range of weather. The cabin has nice heating system and a sweet wood stove. Will visit again. Great owners! Give it a try,
We spent three weeks in this cabin and really became closer as a family!
This was a fabulous get-away for our family of 5. Everything was perfect for us and was exactly what we needed. It served as our home base for visiting Grand Teton National Park but we also enjoyed exploring Dubois and the areas around there. Eleanor and Andy were so great to work with and provided everything we needed. Our only regret was that we didn’t book the house for more days. We definitely plan on going back!
The 100 year old cowboy cabin what is the perfect place for my husband and I to stay on our first trip to Wyoming. Originally just a small prospectors cabin the owners have added space and transformed this rustic abode to a beautiful vacation spot. The cabin it’s on their property and sits right next to the horse pasture with three fantastic horses who love carrots. The wind river is just a few short steps from the back porch. We spent each evening on the back porch playing cards, listening to music and watching the rabbits hop around. The kitchen was newly renovated and Eleanor had it stocked with everything we could need. We love the town of the Dubois it has great shops and places to eat. Do not miss the National Museum of Military Vehicles just outside of town. We hope to return soon for some trout fishing. Thank you Eleanor and Andy for such an amazing time.
Everything was great - the Gipson's were the perfect hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit at their Cowboy Cabin! My husband loved fly-fishing in the Dubois area while I particularly enjoyed feeding the wonderful horses. Cabin was clean, cozy and comfortable. We had fun shopping & eating in Dubois - the pies & ribs at the Cowboy Cafe were the best ever. We're hoping to return to the Cowboy Cabin again - but plan to stay longer next time! Our thanks to Andy & Eleanor for their kindness, hospitality and for making our stay in Dubois so memorable. We'll definitely be back!
We stayed here for a week in mid-May. The cabin was perfect for relaxation and unplugging, plus Eleanor & Andy were very helpful whenever we had questions or needed anything during our stay. Enjoyed feeding treats to the horses & goat several times. The location is a quick 2 min drive into town & about 5 mins from hiking trails, petroglyphs, and fishing spots - very convenient! Will definitely be back :)
