Dubois, Wyoming
The Lake House at Picture Rock Ranch is located in the stunning Torrey Valley Canyon 12 miles from the town of Dubois. The completely rebuilt historic cabin features two bedrooms with views of Tail Lake, one and 1/2 baths, full kitchen and laundry, a screened in front porch, wood stove, and a pull out coach to sleep up to six people.
Enjoy the serenity of the water at your front door and the beauty of the Ross Lake Glacier in your back yard. Take your morning coffee on the dock and watch the sunrise on the peak of the Absaroka mountains. Spend some time paddling on the lake in a canoe or kayak, or try your hand at tricking a trout with world class fly fishing in the lake or on the Torrey Creek that runs through the property. Take a short hike to the Indian petroglyphs (ancient Indian rock carvings) on property and in the canyon, or hike the many trails surrounding the Lake House. A campfire and smores might be a great ending to your day.
The cabin was so beautiful and so peaceful. We stayed there to be close to the Tetons and Yellowstone. We enjoyed the mountains but enjoyed the cabin and its surroundings as much. We sat on the dock for hours enjoying the views. The fishing on the lake and hiking to Lake Louise were amazing The owners were very helpful and very nice.We would highly recommend the cabin.
We chose the cabin for our honeymoon and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The cabin provides a unique sense of peace but also opportunity for adventure. This place is truly a unique find and every bit of 5 stars.
The Lake House was more than we expected. Very comfortable and quite. The scenery was great and afforded many activities. I would recommend it to anyone.
perfect secluded cabin with Gorgeous view of the lake, our Dogs loved it, We loved the town of Dubois and it was just a short car ride to the Tetons, Jerry was very friendly and helped us with anything we needed, living room furniture was a little uncomfortable but we made do, All in All was a great vacation , especially the canoeing on the lake
We stayed for a wonderful week. The location is beyond beautiful. The screened in porch makes a wonderful spot to sit during a storm or to get away from bugs and you still have the wonderful lake view. You have the same amazing view from both bedrooms, the dock, a nice sitting spot in front of the dock and from the fire pit. Jerry was very kind and responsive. The area felt very private but there were people close enough that you felt safer than in a fully secluded area. The mosquitoes were heavy but didn’t bite while we had our bug spray on. The cabin had everything you need. It felt like an old rustic cabin but had the comforts we are used to. We even woke up to find a fresh stack of firewood ready. I loved that it was dog friendly. Though my new rescue pups were not so friendly with the 3 sweet rescue pups the nice lady still came and brought my pups some treats. A very kind laid back area/town. If you aren’t sure if your pups will play nicely with the free roaming resident pups leave them home. The stay at this cabin is such a great experience you want to be able to experience all the great things in the area. It was tons of fun kayaking with my kids for the first time. The mellow water makes it the perfect place to learn. We heard the lake was too cold to play in but we thought it was tolerable during a hot a day. Close enough to Yellowstone and the Tetons. This trip fulfilled the dream I had in my head and checked off a few thinks on my bucket list. Thank you Jerry!
We loved this cabin on the lake! The screened porch was perfect for everything from morning coffee to watching the sun set. The cabin had everything we needed - a compact but well equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, etc. Located about 8 miles down a very decent dirt road, it was close to activities in the Whiskey Mountain Basin and the Fitzpatrick Wilderness, as well as farther afield. A great place to begin exploring the area.
Quiet log cabin getaway. Loved the area.
We stayed here because of the remote and unique location. We wanted to photograph wildlife and wild places and this location was key. We love the area and all there is to discover in the Dubois west. Our hosts were excellent and the cabin perfect for our needs.
The pictures don’t do the landscapes justice. Most iconic place you can find. No need to head to Yellowstone… cabin, mountains, hiking, lake with trout in it, creek you canoe up. We loved the privacy and few people who inhabit the area. Jerry was the most friendly and accommodating host we’ve had. Our two young boys had a blast and we long for more time there. Other reviews were helpful and accurate. You’re out there but that’s the best part. Mosquitos were bad. Everything else was outstanding.
We enjoyed the cabin and location so much in our first stay, last year, that we came back for a second year. Glad we did. The hikes, the country, the paddles and life at the cabin and on the porch - another fine family get together in this beautiful valley in this well-kept historic cabin.
very nice place to stay and rest and relax.
This was our 2nd time at the cabin and we really enjoyed our time once again. There’s so much to do in the area whether hanging out on the lake, exploring around Dubois, or heading over to GTNP. House is plenty comfortable with everything we needed, but boy those mosquitoes really got us even in the few seconds between car and porch every time!
Such a great place to come and relax! The surroundings were beautiful. We utilized the dock for fishing, the kayak to paddle around the lake, up the stream and then float back down. We also hiked around the property including up to see the petroglyph. Jerry was a great host! Thank you so much for having us!
This really is a special place to stay. We loved the lake, and the conoeing/kayaking, and fishing. The hike to Lake Louise was beautiful. We especially enjoyed an awesome day at the Tetons. Jerry was very helpful and informative. Some things to keep in mind if you come... 1. In the summer months (we were there for six days in the middle of July), there are LOTS of mosquitos. Bring extra bug spray. 2. If you will be packing food for an extended stay, be sure to have plastic bins for storage. There are lots of little four-legged friends pitter-pattering around at night who are very eager to get into your food. 3. The cabin is about 11 miles off of the highway. The dirt road is pretty bumpy, but not a deal-breaker. You just need to be aware that it takes time for travel. 4. Bring all of the supplies you can. The local stores are VERY pricey. We bought our groceries in Jackson, which was still a bit expensive. But costs for groceries and supplies in Dubois are far worse. Have fun! We did, and now have a lot of great memories.
Nice mountain cabin. Would stay again.
If you are looking for beautiful surroundings, then this place is for you. The 360 views are breathtaking and there is a lot of different activities to enjoy. We spent the majority of our time rowing up the river and then floating back down. My husband enjoyed some time fishing off the dock also. There are great places to hike/walk and the dogs that live on the property are happy to be your guides. Jerry, the owner, was wonderful with communicating with us, and he made sure we had what we needed. We already booked our next trip there!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Fishing was fun and the brown trouts excellent. Cabin was very comfortable and my wife said she could live there…and if you knew Anna! Anyway! I hope to return soon. Beautiful location…sincerely. Thank you Jerry.
This lake house and property exceeded our expectations. Very clean and accessible. Jerry met us and gave us the tour of property so check in was a breeze. This lake house is unbelievable in setting and access to a quality fishing experience, we released many great fish and ate a few that were excellent. We will be back as I haven’t found a spot as nice as this. The screened porch is wonderful to relax in and the views are breathtaking. The dock with table and chairs to take in morning coffee were fantastic and a great fishing platform especially for someone that don’t have a lot of experience fishing or want to teach children. Available canoes and kayak make sure there is something for everyone to enjoy. Thank Jerry for a special vacation and memories
We really enjoyed our stay at Cabin by the lake. It had a great view and it was very relaxing. Probably would stay there again, if we have a chance.
