A Setting That Speaks for Itself

Imagine waking up to the sound of the river below, sipping yourmorning coffee on a wraparound deck while watching the water roll by. With direct access to the river, open fields for games, and scenic surroundings, this cabin is a dream for outdoor lovers and those needing a true reset.

Located on Railroad Grade Road, an 8-mile stretch of flat, riverside road, you’ll love walking, running, or biking right outside your front door. Looking for more You’re just minutes from West Jefferson, Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, with endless trails, local charm, and activities to explore.

The Space: Cozy, Clean, and Thoughtfully Updated

Originally built in the 1970s by Ennis Scott Pennell (the great-grandmother of the current owners), this home was designed to bring family back to the land. It has since been renovated from top to bottom, including:
• New flooring and bathroom
• Upgraded kitchen and appliances
• Mini-split heating and cooling system for year-round comfort
• Fresh finishes throughout that preserve the charm but give you modern ease

The living room features a comfortable pull-out couch for additional sleeping space, perfect for families or small groups. The kitchen is well-equipped for home-cooked meals, and the dining area overlooks the river.

Entertainment & Connectivity

Stay as connected—or disconnected—as you want. The cabin includes:
• High-speed internet
• Apple TV & Amazon Fire TV Stick with access to Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and any apps that work with your cable subscriptions (just log in).
• Easy app switching for those cozy movie nights or catching up on your favorite shows.

Extras to Know
• Wood-burning fireplace for cool mountain nights (bring a bundle of wood!)
• Shower with strong water pressure
• Fresh linens, towels, and essentials provided
• Pull-out couch makes it great for 2–4 guests
• Windows throughout let in beautiful natural light and views
• Pets allowed with prior approval + pet fee
• Checkout is 11:00 AM (simple instructions provided)

Driveway Note

The gravel driveway can get a little slick, especially if wet. We recommend walking down the grassy edge rather than the gravel when needed. Just part of the mountain charm!

Guest Access

You’ll have access to the entire cabin, the riverfront, and wide, mowed fields—perfect for tossing a frisbee, playing catch, or simply laying out under the stars.

Nearby Towns & Must-Do Adventures
• West Jefferson (15 min): Local shops, breweries, Boondocks Restaurant, and live music
• Blue Ridge Parkway (15 min): Scenic drives, overlooks, and hikes
• Boone (25 min): COBO Sushi, The Local, and the famous Daniel Boone Inn for breakfast
• Home of Appalachian State University
• Blowing Rock (35 min): Boutique shopping, Bistro Roca, Six Pence Pub
• Railroad Grade Road: Ride or jog along the river—no hills!

Mountain Cabin Notes (Because Nature is Real)

You may see a ladybug or two—they’re used in nearby Christmas tree farms to control pests naturally. Occasionally, stink bugs may appear (they’re harmless, just toss them outside or vacuum them up).

Final Thoughts

This is a place to truly slow down, breathe in the mountain air, and reconnect—with nature, with loved ones, and with yourself. We’ve hosted everyone from solo travelers to couples to multi-generational families, and all have left with stories to tell.

We can’t wait to host you at At Riverbend. Let us know if you have any questions—we’re local and happy to help!

Cozy cabin with a beautiful view of the river. Communication was great and check in was seamless. House has plenty of linens, blankets, kitchenware etc.

Id like to start by saying that the home itself is beautiful. It is perfectly intimate and so close to the river, which is an added bonus. We had a few hiccups in our stay, including no water due to busted water lines upon arrival. The host was helpful in addressing and fixing this problem, however it took over 12 hours which was not ideal. I was a vendor for an event in the area this past weekend, and this situation was unfortunate in setting back our pre-established timeline. We were able to complete what we came to do, and did receive a partial refund for the situation. The communication from the host was good, but it was unfortunate to learn that they weren’t sure when the last guests had been there or even what type of pipes were underneath the house. We maintained a positive attitude regardless, and did enjoy the property. I would like to add that the driveway is not small car friendly. We drove a 2019 STX F-150 and struggled to get up the driveway. There is deep gauging from naturally occurring incidents that has done serious damage. If booking this property, I’d recommend nothing smaller than a large SUV. I’d also recommend taking a walk around the home exterior and taking pictures of the cracked window near the main porch gate and the gutters around the other side of the porch at the beginning of your stay. The window has a previous crack and the gutter is missing a connector piece. I would hate for anyone to be fined for damages or that were previously there.

The cabin was nice but we had an uncomfortable stay. I think it would lovely in the summer. The 2 stars reflect that potential, not our stay. The key pad did not work. We had to hunt around the cabin to find a rock with the hidden key, which was frozen to the ground. We had to find another rock in the woods to bash the key rock loose. It was barely 60 degrees in the cabin and the mini-split could not warm it up. We eventually found a space heater that helped, but it was not suggested. We stayed bundled up until bed.The water was frozen. Luckily there was a small trickle in the bathroom sink. We had to catch water from that sink to flush the toilet. Under direction from the manager (Allen Donatelli), we found the well house and checked the heat lamp, which had burned out, and we replaced the bulb. Allen was reasonably responsive but fairly dismissive of our situation. He did not apologize. We had to find a new place to leave the key when we left. Allen clearly has never been to the cabin. We live in a rural area in an older house. We understand that issues can happen, especially in the winter. We did everything we could to be helpful in a bad situation, but it is certainly reasonable to expect a bare minimum of running water. I asked for a refund or a replacement stay. I got 30, which seems insufficient. We always try to stay locally vs. a hotel but this was a huge disappointment.
