BRING YOUR DOGS! BRING YOU HORSES!

The Cozy Log GUEST CABIN is located at ALMOST HEAVEN RANCH, which is a Very Special Place. It is for those who love nature, love animals (both wild and tame), love stars and wild flowers, love mountains, love old gray barns, love hummingbirds, and foraging, love chipmonks, and hiking, and love the smell and the sounds, and no sounds, of the forest.

If you are one of those special people, we would love to share our GUEST CABIN, and Ranch, with you!

The GUEST CABIN is a Studio, with a large kitchen and full bath (shower & tub). It is near but detached from the Main House, and has been newly redecorated in the RALPH LAUREN EQUESTRIAN STYLE. There is one King size bed (sleeps 2), and one Queen size air mattress (sleeps two).

There is disability parking under the deck in front of the GUEST CABIN, which is your parking spot during your stay; it is on one level; and, there are no steps as you enter. There is a dresser, 3 chairs, a 50 inch TV (with Roku), high speed internet, and a table for eating, working, or watching deer, the horses, including DONNER, the Miniature Sicilian Donkey, and BLITZEN, the Miniature Draft Horse. Yes, DONNER and BLITZEN!

Bring your dogs (no breed restrictions), which must be kept on a leash when outside of the GUEST CABIN, due to the horses, donkey, and wildlife. Please no cats.

There is no need for you to bring firewood with you for the fire pit, as wood is complimentary for Guests. Spring weather at the Ranch, which is 4,500 ft above sea level, can be cold at times. For those Guests who like air conditioning, one has been installed, thru the end of September. There is always a Vornado fan, along with a box fan, in the GUEST CABIN.

Please do not forget carrots for BLITZEN (the Miniature Draft Horse), who has big blue eyes and who smiles as he greets guests! Actually, you can almost hear him laugh as he runs down the long driveway, which is one of his favorite things to do! BLITZEN, and his best friend, DONNER (the Miniature Sicilian Donkey), are the Ranch Mascots. While BLITZEN is very social, DONNER is more like EEyore in Winnie the Poo, as he follows BLITZEN around, everywhere, all of the time:) Please only two carrots for each of them in the morning and also in the evening, due to the sugar content in carrots.

You are welcome to pet and love on several larger horses that may board at Almost Heaven Ranch. but please do not feed them. They are all privately owned. Sometimes they are away for horse shows or when their owners take them for trail rides, but they are usually at the Ranch. For insurance purposes, there is no horseback riding offered to the public at the Ranch, however, there is horse back riding most of the year, nearby. Donner and Blitzen are always around to welcome Guests!

The old gray barns at ALMOST HEAVEN RANCH, are reminiscent of Watauga County's ByGone era. The stalls are not at all fancy, but they are functional. Many beautiful horses, including some National Champion Arabians, Saddlebreds (pictures of which are on the site), Friesians, and Wild Mustangs, along with Miniature Horses and Donkeys, have called Almost Heaven Ranch, Home.

If you wish to bring your horses between April 1, 2026 and November, 1, 2026, there may be dry-stalls available, so please check with your Hosts for availability prior to booking.

Steve and Kathleen, look forward to hosting you!

Our family had such a beautiful time at The Lodge! The hosts, Steve and Kathleen, were incredibly responsive and kind from start to finish. The place itself is massive, the primary bedroom alone feels like a studio apartment, complete with a jacuzzi tub, a rain shower, and sliding doors that open to a huge patio with a cozy porch swing. We missed seeing the horses because it was so cold, but honestly, the cabin itself was more than worth the stay. One tip: definitely try to drive up the mountain before it gets dark. we arrived around 9pm and missed the entrance, ending up way farther up the mountain than we needed to be, lol!The lodge is only about 10 minutes from Boone, and you have to eat at Betty’s Biscuits. Get there early. it gets packed, but it is sooo worth it.Thank you, Steve and Kathleen, for sharing your beautiful lodge with us. We’ll absolutely be back!

It was peaceful, quiet, relaxing. Didn’t really spend much time there, was gone during days and got back each night around 8. When we where there, it was as it was described. The hosts were very accommodating and responded promptly to any questions.

There were beautiful views on the way up to the property. We loved everything about it except the queen size air mattress had a hole in it so the kids had to sleep on the floor. I would also suggest a few more bath towels but other than that they thought of everything for a nice getaway.

My family and I had a wonderful time staying at this property over the kids' spring break. The house is spacious, and we enjoyed the lower floor rec room. The fireplace and hot tub were also a huge plus. The beds were comfortable. Don't expect the house to be perfectly clean. It was good enough where it needed to be (linens, tubs, toilets). We would definitely visit again.

Clean, quiet and convenient to Blowing Rock and Boone. I wasn't aware the cabin was actually adjoined to the main house... a little separation would have been nice. It lacked an outdoor seating area to enjoy the view or to star gaze. Overall it was more than adequate and the horse, donkey and miniature horse were very friendly. Thanks for having us.

Had a lovely time in the mountains. The horses, and Dinner and Blitzen were lovely, and the deer too. The cabin was comfy, and best of all no fireworks to terrorize my Bella. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful sunset and quiet stay. It was close to town, but far enough up the mountain to not hear the traffic. A peaceful stay.

The one room cabin was very clean. It was unseasonably cold outside but there was a great little space heater which made the stay oh so comfortable. I truly enjoyed being so far up the mountain and away from the busyness of the highway. Thank you for such a nice place to stay relax and sleep.
