Abiquiu, New Mexico
A lighted path leads from Casita to your private Sleeping Deck. It contains two full beds, pillows, chairs, bottled water, small chest-of-drawers, table, telescope, and a 200-degree view of the canyon.
The rental is located on the site of an early 1900s Northern New Mexico homestead landmark and is one of three vacation rentals we have in the canyon, with Remote Ranch Wilderness Casita and Anasazi Wilderness Glamping Cabin.
Within a short walking distance there is a community swimming pond with inflatable kayaks, Slither (a 17-foot water park floating snake on which children can sit, stand, and walk), boogie boards, and a sand box with children's toys. The Gallina River runs right by this area where children love to play in the mud.
Gallina Canyon Ranch has been featured in many national and regional magazines, including New Mexico magazine, The Santa Fean, Better Homes and Gardens, Sunset, and Martha Stewart Living.

We had a great time at the ranch casita. We'll be back next year for the third time!
Charming little cabin! A few min from the Chama. So much fun! Off grid, but has everything you’d need for a simple stay. Will defiantly be returning!
We urban greenhorns fell in love with Elizabeth, Andrew, David, Tristan, Grey, chickens (eggs!), calves, cows, horseys (from afar), river, cliffs, sky, sage, stars, outhouse (open concept!), hummers, and even the familiar ruts in the road (which we inspected often). We were honored to be invited to play bit parts in the annual roundup-- one of the best experiences of our entire six-week trip to the Southwest. Our hosts work so hard, while treating their animals so well-- really something to witness. We stayed in the spacious and comfortable Ranch Casita, and now think we want to try the Remote Casita on a future trip to Gallina Canyon. Thank you again, Elizabeth, Andrew, and David.
We stayed for our anniversary and found the casita to be a hidden gem. Words cannot describe the beauty and grandeur of the surroundings. The Casita is quite comfortable and the open-air lookout sleeping loft was fabulous for enjoying morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Our hosts were very welcoming yet gave us complete privacy. There were delicious fresh eggs and heirloom tomatoes awaiting us in our kitchen. We hiked 4 miles to their remote casita and plan to rent that for our next anniversary. We simply loved everything about the place! Kathy and Steve
We had a great time. Could have used more bath towels.
Our stay was perfect. The beauty and solitude of the canyon was stunning. We rode and hiked for miles without seeing another sole (other than the hosts:-). The cabin had everything we needed and then some. It was clean, functional and very comfortable. We can't wait to go back.
This was my third visit to the Wilderness Casita and I know I'll be back as soon as I'm able. It is one of the most beautiful places I've been--a place of great ever-changing beauty and sacred silence. Not having internet or phone access meant a kind of concentration nearly impossible in the outside world (an incredible gift for any artist or writer). But all this isolation is experienced in the supreme comfort of this well-appointed cabin. The owners, Elizabeth and Andrew, are incredible, welcoming people, happy to help you with anything you need. And David, the very capable ranch manager, is a fun and capable guide to the wonders of the canyon. If you're ready for some time truly to yourself, this is absolutely the place for you.
We loved staying at Gallina Canyon. We slept under the stars on the sleeping porch every night. Our two young sons loved it -- the stars, the night sky, the gentle sounds of nearby wildlife, the humming birds. The porch was plenty large enough for all four of us. We did wake early though, with the roosters and the sun rising over the canyon. Elizabeth was wonderful. Very welcoming and responsive, my only disappointment was that we didn't actually get to meet, which is a shame because she sounded like an amazing woman, with some great stories to tell having lived at this isolated ranch for decades. When I told her that my youngest would be spending his fifth birthday there she arranged to get a birthday cake! And a little present for both him and his brother. The casita is beautiful - much more so than the photos. It's a cute cottage that was originally built more than a century ago. It is rustic - there is an indoor composting toilet, but the outhouse was more appealing. There are solar lights, but you'll need flashlights. The fridge is propane. There is wifi, so you're not completely unplugged, but it's limited to email only. The kids also loved the swimming hole and splashing around in the Rio Chama. We hiked in the canyon. It was well worth the dusty drive from the nearest paved road. We'd love to go back some day.
What a wonderful stay! I loved the casita, it provided everything I needed and more. Truly a wonderful 'away from it all' stay. The cliffs are spectacular and when it rains, like during the monsoon season, you can spot and hear 2 wonderful waterfalls. That was an amazing site. This cabin also has a sleeping deck where I spent my time with coffee and books. Andrew, Elizabeth and David are amazing! I will be back again and again - I love the ranch!
This casita is the ideal place to get away from it all! It is an off-the-grid yet extremely cozy and comfortable place where you are immersed in nature. Make sure to bring provisions with you because once you settle in, chances are you won't want to leave until it's time to go!
