Atlantic Mine, Michigan
Sitting on the property of Northwinds Adventures, a year round camp, the “Walleye" cabin features 2 bedrooms; one with a Queen bed (linens provided) and another with a twin bunk and twin bed(sheets provided upon request for a $10 fee). For additional sleeping space, there is a reclining couch in the living room or space for a cot. Pack and Play available upon request - $10. White Oak hardwood floors throughout cabin, bathroom is tiled with a standup shower. A wood burning stove is available to take the chill off in the cooler seasons, firewood provided for $5/bundle. The kitchen is full with everything you need to prepare a great meal after a day outdoors.
The cabin is tucked in a grove of aspens about 100 yards from our very own private Love Lake. There is a deck for lounging and a fire pit in the yard. There is also a charcoal grill; but the charcoal is not provided.
Feel free to walk the trails around our 220 acres, paddle a canoe or kayak in our lake, or spend time on our private beach.
Love Lake is a 10 acre, spring fed private lake and there are plenty of opportunities to fish from shore. To protect our population of native brook trout and walleyes we ask that you use only barbless, artificial lures and gently release all of our finned friends back into the lake to fight another day!
If you are coming up to ATV or snowmobile, we ask that you DO NOT ride machines on the property. You can however ride them directly from the property to the trail, a short, legal ride on the roads to the Bill Nichols trail located about 5 miles away.
Had an absolutely amazing time!
What a wonderful find! I planned a spur of the moment trip to visit my daughter at Michigan Tech. Five of us stayed very comfortably in the CLEAN cabin. We cooked and ate all of our meals there and had everything we needed—pots, pans, appliances, dishes. The weather was beautiful and we were able to open all of the windows to enjoy the fresh air. The fire pit is a nice size and located very close to the cabin, and firewood chopped and ready for a reasonable price. The host was quick at responding and was very attentive. We look forward to coming back after the lake is melted so we can enjoy some of the fun there. I love the serenity that this property has to offer. We will be back!
Beautiful cabin! Nice little fishing lake. A little confusing to find at first but worth it.
My husband and I found this cabin near Houghton so we could spend a weekend with our son, who is a student at Michigan Tech. The cabin was spacious, with attractive, sturdy furniture and cabinetry. We had plenty of space to spread out, and the scenery was just gorgeous.
Enjoyed our stay nice and peaceful.
Northwinds Adventures is amazing. We stayed (family of 5, 3 kids ages 13, 11, and 8) in the Walleye cabin. There was plenty of room, the kitchen had all the dishes, pans, and utensils you need. Bathroom was adequate and small bedrooms we didn't spend much time inside. Firepit was nice and spaced privately from other cabins. There is firewood at each cabin for a reasonable price and it is dry, hardwood firewood. The lake is excellent with 2 platforms to jump off of. The cost to use the nice paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes ($15/person for the stay) is a steal! The equipment available is great. We caught a couple walleye and a perch on the lake too. Paying for the watersports equipment and firewood is easy, just venmo the owner at the end of your stay. The location is nice if you want to be just out of town and we strongly recommend heading to breakers for a sunset fire on the black sand beach. Highly recommend Northwinds Adventure as a base camp for your Keweenaw trip.
Great cabin and on-site pond.
This was our third time visiting the walleye cabin and per usual, it did not disappoint. We always felt right at home. This place is a gem. Even though my cell phone had poor reception (which I am usually happy about), the wifi was strong enough to facilitate calls without hitch. We also appreciate the gifted maple syrup from the hosts. We are planning on returning again!
The location, cabin and environment were very peaceful. The property managers were prompt responding to any questions and were helpful. The cabin was clean and set up nicely. My boys had a blast in the lake kayaking and fishing (they were catching nice walleye). Couldn't recommend enough.
We were visiting our MTU son & wanted a place to relax after outdoor adventures. The walleye cabin was a perfect place for our family of 4 to relax by the fire, work & do homework (good WI-FI), cook, and play games. The cabin was clean, well organized, & the beds & furniture were comfortable. And the view out to the aspens is beautiful. Michelle was easy to work with & accommodating when we needed to alter our plans. We would recommend this cabin & hope to be back one day.
Well-maintained property that is away from everything with plenty of nature to enjoy. It’s just a quick ride to Houghton. You get the best of both worlds. Would definitely stay here again.
This is our third time staying at this cabin. It’s perfect for a visit to Houghton. Well equipped. Cozy and warm. Relaxing way to visit our son at Michigan Tech, and have some home cooked meals for him to enjoy! Will stay many more times.
Son and his Husky friends hung out with us Saturday evening. Perfect amount of space for everyone. The cabin worked out great and we hope to have future stays there.
The cabin has a cozy feel without being cramped. We loved the wood fireplace, and our MTU son was able to stay with us one night. We even hosted another small MTU family for lunch before heading to do some hiking! Great location close to the college with the amenities of home!
We were pleasantly surprised by this property. Its somewhat secluded and very neat and clean. The best part was being able to sit on the deck or in front of the fire pit and have peace and quiet. I highly recommend this property! Its about a 16 minute drive to Michigan Tech, good distance without being too far.
Cabin was wonderful. Clean, full of everything we needed and a great location to use as a base to explore the Keweenau. Would stay here again for sure.
We only stayed 3 nights, it wasn't long enough. The cabin is very beautiful and set up perfectly inside and out. We joked about just moving into the cabin and not leaving. Next year we're spending the whole week there. Since we only spent 3 days, we didn't get a chance to use the trails, but did get a little time to fish. Me and my daughters caught perch and walleye.
We moved our daughter into her apartment at Michigan Tech. This is a nice property to relax at and enjoy the outdoors while we are in town. We've stayed here before and will stay again.
We loved our stay! It was quiet (in fact only saw one other family), so we basically had the lake to ourself. The landscape was beautiful, I loved the wild flowers. The cabin had what we needed. The beds were comfortable and the place was very clean. I always wish there is no WiFi but I suppose there are plenty of people that want it. The living room was comfy. Our only request would be one more chair in the living room. With five in the family it was tight sitting. Thank you so much, we hope to come again.
This was our third summer visit to Northwinds and it didn't disappoint! Our family took full advantage of all of the things the property has to offer. We spent time at the beach, played volleyball, had campfires and loved watching storms light up the sky at night. Thanks for the memories! We will be back next summer:)
The property was immaculate and situated in a very quiet location. We enjoyed the basketball Court and the serenity of the patio from the walleye cabin. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a quiet space and/or a home base to visit the Porkies or Copper Harbor.
The cabin and it's location are wonderful. Cabin surrounded by trees and quiet. Short trip to town. We enjoyed our stay.
This is a modern, very clean and cozy cabin. Only a short drive from town. Perfect for a weekend getaway.
