"Simplify, simplify, simplify!" If you are not inspired by Henry David Thoreau this native log cabin may not be for you. It is off-the-grid. You will live very much like native Ozarkians lived 100 years ago. Of course you will have everything you need for your stay, but, it will all work differently.
There is no one else near. Seclusion in the trees!!
And, oh the location overlooking the broad valley. From the covered porch the view peers into three counties.
This is a unique accommodation -- many folks dearly love it, but it is not for everyone. But, for those adventurous folks who want to relive the feel and texture of 100 years ago, this is the place.
This original log cabin is off the grid (no electricity). Still, it is quite comfortable, but in the old way. Full cooking and heating via propane (Ok, that is a little modern) And, there is a small solar system.
As you would expect, there is a path to the outhouse (privy). And obviously there is no air-conditioning. Incorporated into the porch is a unique solar shower for bathing. The covered porch wraps two sides of the cabin and contains a porch swing, rockers, a hammock, and a table for outside eating. The sleeping loft is well lighted and contains two queen size beds. You will love the decor and the old time comfort.
Now for the setting: In the woods, secluded, perched on the side of a hill above the river valley. The view is dramatic, offering a visual distance of perhaps 20 miles. The river is a walk of perhaps 1/4 mile to a private access. Canoes, available any time to cabin guests, are located at the river.
The Gasconade River is a noted Ozark smallmouth bass river. Many other species are present as well. A sandbar in the river provides a wonderful opportunity for wading and swimming. And, there is the adventure of poking around the river, island, and slough.
Hikers will find plenty to do on the 160-acre property, as well as on a nearby Natural Area, featuring a hike to a natural bridge, a geological oddity on Clifty Creek.
This cabin attracts nature lovers and folks who desire to turn off their work-a-day worries and step backwards a century -- if just for a while.
We had a great time at this charming log cabin in the woods. We loved relaxing on the porch, sitting by the fire, and listening to the birds. We plan to return as soon as possible. Thanks for a one-of-a-kind experience!
Rented Friday to Monday Lovely time spent on the abundant porch. Mattress was heavenly. Everything was just as described.
Great place to “unplug” and enjoy nature, read, hike. My 18 yo son and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Great property, enjoyed the off the grid experience. Will be back!
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet getaway away from all the business of life. The property managers were the best. Very nice, informative and accommodating. We will definitely be returning in late spring.
Thanks for allowing me to stay in Aunt Phoebe’s Perch. I have a feeling that I will be back again! The cabin was just as described and well appointed with amenities. The perfect way to get off the grid with beautiful surroundings and a gracious host. The river was swollen so I did not have the opportunity to enjoy the Gasconade but everything else was picture perfect.
Hello friends we went to a place called Aunt Phoebe's Log Cabin. It is an 1800's Ozark log cabin perched above the scenic Gasconde river valley. The cabin is off the grid. We really enjoyed the peace and solitude of the place. The birds and squirrels came right up to the feeder on the porch. You could hear wild turkeys in the mornings talking to each other from ridge to ridge. My favorite spot was sitting on the porch swing with coffee in hand birds signing and a lone cow far off lowing. This will be an get away to remember and can't wait to go back in the summer or fall.
We rented Aunt Phoebe's perch for a couple of days for our anniversary and found ourselves wanting to stay longer. The charm and simplicity of no electricity, the outhouse, the campfire, and observing nature gave us so much joy that we miss daily in the city. Tom and Kathy are lovely hosts who would not leave you hanging if you needed anything. A real treasure. Can't wait to go back.
This cozy cottage is a unique experience for anyone who likes to be in the outdoors, in a secluded, quiet, peaceful, and lovely setting with a knock-out view! The decor and amenities are from a simpler time - and they are perfect! The owners are fantastic and are an integral part of the experience as well!! Lay in the hammock on the porch or hit the rocking swing or a rocking chair. Climb the ladder and snooze in the two beds upstairs. The sheets, smells and layout reminded me of the Grandma's place in Tennessee from many many years ago. It just felt like home. As an added sight seeing experience, bring some bird seed to put on the feeding tray - there are some pretty birds in the woods - and they are not shy! Kathy and Tom - Thanks again for a fantastic stay!
This place is so beautiful! I loved every minute of my stay. The people running it are very sweet. I stayed in the phoebe cabin. It was a very cool and unique experience. The cabin had everything I needed. I spent most of my time relaxing in the hammock, enjoying the beautiful view. I will definitely be back!
