The Haven is a modern, luxurious cabin that lets you experience the outdoors in exquisite comfort. It features large windows over the bed looking up at the trees, a small kitchen, a full luxurious bathroom, a built-in seating nook with a table, and an actually comfortable queen sleeper sofa. There is also a semi-private outdoor seating area where you can enjoy being outside by the fire! The cabin is set in a serene, wooded campground at the edge of the iconic dunes of the Desert of Maine.
The Space:
The cabin is 21x15 with dramatic 18ft ceilings, a queen bed with giant windows overlooking the woods, a full bathroom (toilet, sink, and a ridiculously luxurious shower), a sleeper sofa with (an actually comfortable) queen foam mattress, a built-in nook with a cushioned bench and table, and a small kitchenette (sink, countertop, mini refrigerator, dishes, silverware, basics for cooking, kettle, and tea). This cabin comes supplied with linens (sheets, down comforter, towels for four, and pillows), linens for the sleeper sofa (sheets, pillows, and blankets), and two sleeping pads and pillows if you have additional guests (i.e. kids) sleeping on the floor. The cabin also has an outdoor seating area with two Adirondack chairs, a fire ring (w/ integrated grill), a small picnic table, and bistro lights for evening ambience.
This cabin is located in the recently renovated campground at the Desert of Maine, a nearly 100-year-old tourist attraction located in Freeport. The Desert is 25 acres of rolling sand dunes in the middle of a lush Maine forest, a natural phenomenon created during the last ice age. The tourist attraction includes self-guided tours about the history and geology of the Desert, exhibits for kids, a train ride, and a new mini golf course! The campground is quiet and serene, surrounded by tall northern pines and the “desert” dunes. There is a 24x7 Camp Store where you can buy bundled wood, snacks, drinks, ice cream, ice, and other essentials. We also have lawn games like corn hole, bocce, hook & ring, and more. Come unwind and make magical memories here!
Guest Access:
You will have the entire cabin on a dedicated campsite, all to yourself. In addition, you will have access to our renovated, cedar bath house which is just steps away, with individual showers if you should need it (but, of course, your cabin has a bathroom with a shower!).
I had such an awesome time at this location. The cabin was so comfortable and cozy. I loved falling asleep and waking up to the view if the trees behind the cabin. I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Shaws is around the corner where I grabbed some groceries. I was surprised by how facinating the desert was. Because I was there in October, it was quiet. I hiked through the blue trail which had steep parts that were a welcomed challenge. I was there midweek so the Oasis and activities were closed but that didn’t matter for me. I enjoyed just doing my own thing at my own pace. The cottages at night were so beautiful with the outdoor strings of lights glowing through the trees. I felt like I was in a fairytale forest. I highly recommend this place and will be back. I have already told many of my friends to go.
From the start, this was one of my favorite stays ever! Communication was excellent and hilarious (great emails!). Arriving and finding the cabin was super easy and it was just SO utterly perfect! We happened to arrive during a rare Maine monsoon, so were unable to utilize the campfire, but the inside was cozy and comfortable and wonderful. Bright, spacious and clean! The bed was super comfortable and we loved being able to have morning coffee while looking out the huge windows. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay! We’ll be back soon!
