Fairplay, Colorado
Chessetts Lodge is a stunning custom-built house, with touches of luxury everywhere. Chessetts Lodge combines the rustic with the luxurious resulting in a truly remarkable home for your private mountain vacation.
You will be amazed from the second you drive up to this gorgeous villa. It is approached via a private road and is situated on its own grounds of some 14 acres, atop Pennsylvania Peak, just South of Alma and only 20 miles from Breckenridge. Surrounded by pine and aspen forests, there are spectacular views of the surrounding white-capped 14,000 ft. peaks, valleys, rivers, and lakes.
Stepping into the home you can see the care taken to create an atmosphere of relaxation and luxury. On the first level you walk into the game room with its custom full-size bar with ice maker, wine cooler, sink, and granite counter. Gather around on the bar stools and converse with the mixer of drinks or enjoy conversations going on in the room. You can play pool on the full-size pool table or sit around the large custom L-shaped couch with a big round coffee table to play games or place your drinks and snacks on. There is a flat screen television mounted over the gas fireplace for sports or movie night. This level has a custom indoor sauna to enjoy, along with a walk-in shower and thick custom cotton towels to finish the experience. There is a bedroom with two twin beds that have new Marriott Hotel pillows to rest your head on.
Following the custom wood stairs up to the main level you enter the heart of the home. There is a luxurious kitchen with granite countertops and custom cabinetry. All the appliances are of the highest quality and are stainless steel. You will have all of the amenities and cookware that you will need to prepare your meals. The kitchen has an island with bar stool seating so that you and your friends can cook and chat at the same time!
The great room has vaulted two story ceilings with floor to ceiling windows on all sides. It is fabulous and has stunning views of the mountains, the valley, and the surrounding forest. A large dining area that can seat ten people is here, with a fantastic view! There is a gas stove to keep the room extra cozy. The seating is leather and extremely comfortable with yet another coffee table for games and puzzles. There is also a small library with books and games for everyone. This open concept means everyone can enjoy some time together, while still having other spaces to have different activities going on in the home.
On the main level are two of the four bedrooms, one featuring a queen size bed with luxurious linens and king size Marriott pillows that cradle your tired body. The other room has a king bed with luxurious linens and pillows to relax and have a great night sleep. There are televisions in each of the rooms, with satellite programming. The bathroom has thick cotton towels for you to use with your shower or bath. There is a bathtub/shower combination on this level.
The third floor area has the master bedroom where the oversized king bed with luxurious bedding and Marriott pillows welcome you to a haven of your own. Here you have your own seating area with a small deck to enjoy the view. The attached private master bath has a custom tiled walk in shower, as well as a VibrAcoustic tub. The thick custom cotton towels give you an upscale luxury feel in the middle of the mountains. There is also a flat screen television with satellite programming to enjoy.
Adjoining the master suite there is also a large loft area with a minstrel's gallery looking onto the great room. This area has a queen size sleeper sofa providing additional accommodation if required. The reading area is also located in the loft so that you can see the stunning views from the big comfy fainting couch that is provided.
The outdoors is one of the most spectacular qualities of this home. You can hike to the top of Pennsylvania Peak right from the front door of the Lodge. There is a hot tub at Chessetts to relax in after a day of hiking or skiing. It is positioned to make the best of the amazing views! If you can think of an outdoor activity, you will probably find it within 10-20 minutes of the cabin. It is a great place to call your "Base Camp".
This is a beautiful home to spend any season of the year. The access is year-round, because the driveways and roads are plowed, but AWD/4WD vehicles are essential, especially in winter. There can be deep drifts after a storm and it can become quite slippery if the snow melts and refreezes. Please have the proper equipment during the winter months.

This was a first class vacation rental. Best we have stayed at. We were so impressed. Real pool table, nice hot tub and instructios for everything except the high tech remote in the basement. The master bath tub was so cool and big enough for 2 people. We definately stay again. Thanks
Spent the last 5 days at the cabin, it was very clean, well built and the perfect setup for our multi-family. We all enjoyed the hot tub and sauna the kids enjoyed the pool table. We hiked almost everyday at the many trails around Fairplay and spent one afternoon just exploring the property. hosts were very responsive. Beds were very comfortable. We really enjoyed our time at the cabin and looking forward to another visit.
We had a fabulous stay at Chessett's Lodge. Plenty of room for everyone. Beautiful views! Kitchen is well stocked and beautiful. We had a wonderful time.
Perfect place for some R&R in the mountains. Would definitely recommend!
We had a fantastic time here, perfect location for snow. Plenty of room for our family and our friends. My only feedback would be to have an air fryer as cooking at altitude is much longer.
Our week long family vacation stay at Chessetts Lodge was truly a luxury mountain cabin experience. The cabin with all of its amenities was just what we were looking for in our Rocky Mountain experience. It IS atop a mountain at 11,000 feet and we DID experience altitude sickness the first couple of days. We arrived on a Monday and never left the cabin till Sat. taking full advantage of all the space for our family of seven to stretch out, relax in hot tub or sauna, play pool, games or hike outside. The beds and pillows with their luxury sheet sets were AMAZING - giving us all GREAT nights of sleep. The kitchen was limited in its stock for us as we cooked a lot. We give this property and the management an excellent review most of all though, for giving us a great last minute booking and same day checking in service due to our other booked property having a water supply issue. THANKS so much you guys were TERRIFIC in serving us SO well.
Great location outside of Breck. Great mountain home with an abundance of wildlife, spectacular views and perfect location.
The house and the views from the house were beautiful. The downstairs was a fun place to hang out and play games and have drinks/snacks. The deck was also nice to hang out on for evening drinks and morning coffee. The management company was great at responding quickly. It was an easy drive to Breckenridge and into the town of Fairplay.
Highly recommend this home for a beautiful mountain stay. We had 10 people in our group and everyone had their own space. The hot tub and sauna were a huge plus and the views from the hot tub at night cannot be duplicated. The property manager was easily accessible for a few questions we had during our stay. We will definitely be back to this amazing home. The gravel road to the home is about 4 miles with some parts being pretty rough but that isn’t the homeowners/property managers fault. Overall this is a beauty place with amazing views of wildlife.
The listing for Chessett Lodge is very accurate; it's beautiful! We spent 9 days with our 5 adult children and 2 year old grandson. It allowed us enough space to all sit together and also allowed everyone a place to escape. The views are gorgeous, the house is well equipped. Word of warning, the house is at 11,000 feet; being flatlanders we were unaware of the many forms of elevation sickness.
We chose Chessetts Lodge for our family vacation stay in Colorado and could not have chosen a better place to stay! The Lodge was equipped with everything our family needed for a carefree, comfortable stay! The lodge was incredibly roomy and cozy! We utilized the kitchen and grill while we were there, cooking family meals together! The quiet, open location was perfect for snow hikes and even sledding down the hills. The drive to town was short and beautiful! We even made our way to Breckinridge and the Frisco area during our stay with no problems at all! 10/10 would recommend booking Chessetts Lodge for your family Colorado stay! Comfortable beds. Cozy gas fireplaces. Tons of room. Beautiful location. What more could you ask for!?
The house was very nice. Beautiful windows to look out and see the wonderful scenery. We saw a moose which was cool. The elevation was rough. Went through quite a few oxygen bottles. My nine year old granddaughter had a really rough time. The master bed upstairs was great. Pillows, sheets, everything. My family enjoyed the pool table but the cue sticks need updated. We enjoyed the large dinner table so we could all eat together. The area was close to Copper Mountain and Breckenridge which we went to a few times.
Had a wonderful Christmas week at the lodge. They kept the driveway plowed immediately after it snowed. We've stayed there before and will stay there again. Altitude took about a day to adjust to, but nothing to be done about that! A very nice touch was them having an already prepared Christmas tree in the main room. Was so grateful for that!
We decided to take a small bday trip to Colorado for my boyfriend's 30th Birthday and it was absolutely perfect. I would highly recommend staying at Chessetts Lodge. The home and property are absolutely beautiful. The home is also pretty close to some of the larger cities which allowed us to venture out each day and visit a new city/attraction. We definitely plan on coming back to this home!
beautiful home. perfect size for our group. we ride atvs out there so need lots of parking and circle drives are great.saw moose and elk on cr1. had great time. going to meet next month and will probably rent again for next year
Chessets lodge is a winter wonderland! We enjoyed our stay in this gorgeous lodge! The best view of the Rockies ever! Accommodations where fantastic. 35-40 minutes to the beautiful town of Breckenridge.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed the stay for Thanksgiving at Chessetts Lodge. Besides being a beautiful home in such a peaceful and serene area, we managed to survive the storm, closed roads and all that comes with that.
This is a wonderful summer vacation house but renters must be aware of the altitude. The main living space sits at 11,120 ft. above sea level.
This place was the perfect getaway for a week. We were secluded up a little over 11,000 ft elevation with just the snow, wind, and animals as the only thing you could hear. The house was the perfect size for the 10 of us and offered lots of over the top things that made us really feel at home. We will be back during the summer months soon.
The house was awesome, very clean and upkept, plenty of heat in the winter time. Lots of space for 10 people. Road was a little rough getting up with the snow. Took 4 tries on fresh snow with a 4wd dually pickup. Overall wonderful facility.
