This historic structure was originally a 2-story log home built in 1813. The home was used as an Inn or tavern along the Old Federal Road leading from Columbus to Springfield. The Federal Road was used prior to the construction of the National Road (AKA, Cumberland Road, or US Route 40). In 2020, I began the project of saving what I could of this old cabin. Most of the first-floor logs were rotted and/or unusable. Moreover, after more than 200 years the stone foundation was shot. Hence, the decision was made to disassemble the second floor of the original cabin and then reassemble it on a new foundation with walk-out basement. Many of the usable first-floor logs were then used as support beams or for other purposes. The cabin now has all new amenities. This rebuilt cabin overlooks Deer Creek and a 50 plus acre wetlands area. An eagle’s nest is located within the wetland area which can be seen with a good pair of binoculars. Two eaglets were born in the spring of 2023 and are now flying around the area with their parents. The property is 1 mile from I-70 and is only a 30-minute drive to Columbus, OH. The cabin has a covered porch, patio, firepit, and hot tub. Self check-in with keypad.

The cabin was perfect for our girls’ road trip. It was super clean and tastefully furnished just as pictured. The beds were comfy and the view from the broad front porch was beautiful day and night. We especially appreciated the mowed pathways close to the marsh for observation of the numerous water birds we’d spotted from the porch.

This cabin is beautifully renovated and exceptionally clean. The kitchen is well equipped with everything needed to cook meals. The bed was very comfortable, and the thick towels were a nice touch. The view from the porch overlooking the wetlands is very pretty, and we enjoyed seeing a lot of wildlife. The water is actually the tip of Choctaw Lake. Excellent host. Know before you go!A few things to know before booking: the photos make the setting appear more serene than it felt in person. While it is true that it’s about one mile from the freeway by car, it’s only about 0.3–0.35 miles away as the crow flies (verified by Google Gemini uploading Google maps and Chat GPT), and traffic noise was very loud. Semis and cars could also be seen through the trees on the right side of the view. Directly behind the cabin is a row of houses; across the road is a Marathon station and the entrance to the Choctaw Lake community. The photos also make the backyard look larger than it actually is.Overall, we would definitely stay here again as a stop while traveling—the cabin itself was perfect for that. We had booked two nights hoping for a peaceful, quiet getaway. Unfortunately, because of the traffic noise we ended up spending much of our time in the Yellow Springs area about 30 minutes away. If you’re looking for a convenient and very clean place to stay while traveling, this is a great option. If your priority is a quiet retreat, it may not be the best fit.

Our stay at cabin was great even though it rained half the time we were there. We enjoyed the hot tub and the view of the wetlands. The cabin was clean and had all the essentials.

This charming cabin was perfect for the 3 of us, with plenty of room to spare. It was clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed. The property was very peaceful and had great views. We enjoyed watching deer and other wildlife from the covered porch. The hot tub worked great. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely stay again. Highly recommend!

Perfect get-away for a girls weekend. Plenty of space, well appointed with lots of extra touches like quality paper products, plenty of towels - both bath and kitchen, nice beds and pillows, and several heaters and fans. We enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit too. I think we have found our annual spot!!!
