The Big Chalet – Cozy, Comfortable, Close to Yellowstone
If you’re looking for a clean, comfortable forest chalet — not luxury, not modern showroom vibes — just a solid, cozy Idaho stay close to Yellowstone, this could be a great fit.

The Big Chalet sits at the end of a quiet road on an acre lot surrounded by national forest. It shares the property with the Little Chalet next door, so while it feels peaceful and tucked away, you may see other guests coming and going.

Inside you’ll find two queen beds (one in the main bedroom and one upstairs) plus a sleeper sofa in the living room. It works well for small to medium families who want space to spread out after a full day exploring.

The kitchen is stocked with the essentials: gas stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, cookware, and dishes. There’s a full bathroom near the main bedroom and a half bath with washer and dryer on the main level. The living room has hardwood floors and comfortable seating to relax at the end of the day.

We do have fiber WiFi, which is a big plus in Island Park and works well for streaming or remote work.
Outside is where this place really shines. The back deck wraps around much of the chalet and overlooks the trees. There’s a fire pit below (please follow current fire restrictions). Nights are quiet, and the stars are usually incredible.

The river is a 5-minute walk or less from the chalet, depending on your pace. While the property is not directly on the river, it’s very close and easy to access for cooling off, floating, or launching nearby. You can float toward Mack’s Inn or simply enjoy the shoreline. Bring your own tubes or rent in town — we’re happy to share recommendations.

Yellowstone’s West Entrance is typically 25–35 minutes away depending on traffic. Johnny Sacks Cabin is also just a short drive.

A Few Important Notes (so expectations are clear):
• This is a forest chalet — you may see pine needles, bugs, wildlife, or dust from the woods. We clean thoroughly, but nature is part of staying in the trees.
• The Big Chalet and Little Chalet sit side by side on the property.
• There is one large driveway that comfortably fits two vehicles.
• No trailer hook-ups (we cannot provide water or power to trailers).
• Cell service can be spotty depending on your carrier.
• A simple rental agreement is required after booking (Airbnb-approved).
• An Airbnb-approved refundable security deposit hold is also required. It works like a hotel hold and is released after our cleaning team confirms there is no damage or missing items.

These policies help us take care of the home and keep it affordable and available for families visiting Island Park.

If you’re looking for luxury finishes and resort amenities, this may not be the right fit.

If you want coffee on the deck, river access just down the road, Yellowstone days, and a comfortable, honest place to land at night — you’ll likely love The Big Chalet.

We’re nearby and available by text if you need anything. We truly want your stay to feel smooth, comfortable, and exactly as described.

The Large Chalet was very accommodating. The kitchen and eating area were quite nice, the bed in the master BR was very comfortable. Hosts were easily accessible and very helpful.

It was good! The sleeping situation described was inaccurate. The “sofa bed” was not fit to sit on let alone sleep on. This left room to sleep for 4 max and not very comfortably!

My wife and I really enjoyed our 4 nights at the Big Chalet in the Forest. It was a perfect escape, loved the early morning kayak trip down the Snake River, close to Yellowstone and the West Yellowstone Rodeo. It's nothing fancy but was very comfortable and made fires several nights. Would recommend.

In celebration of my upcoming milestone birthday we decided to visit Yellowstone National Park. The cabin affords solitude and comfort on a large wooded lot and is conveniently located within 25 minutes of the west entrance to the park. The cabin was a welcoming reprieve after a day in the park….gas grill for cooking dinner and a fire pit for after dinner cocktails. Did I mention solitude? We highly recommend and look forward to visiting again! Thanks Teara for a wonderful stay! It will be a birthday long remembered! ?

Nice rustic cabin with modern updates. Off the beaten path, but still close to all services. The outdoor area with a fire pit is great!

Our family rented the Chalet in the Forrest and the Little Chalet for a large family vacation. We had a magical time in Island Park seeing all the sites. Truly, you do not even have to leave the area to have a full week of entertainment. The cabins were cozy and stocked with all the things we could imagine. Sitting outside on the deck was a peaceful way to enjoy our mornings! There were many trails nearby to take a walk in nature and ride four wheelers or side by sides. The wild life is plenty. We saw many beautiful birds, large fish, moose, elk, and deer. We enjoyed Big Springs, Johnny Sacks Cabin, calm and relaxing river floats, Mesa Falls, Sawtelle look out(Wow! You really are on top of the world), the trails, and history near the cabin. We even spent a day in West Yellowstone, drove to see Earthquake Lake (this was a cool experience), and spent time in Yellowstone. We highly recommend and will for sure return to stay in these beautiful cabins. Andy and Teara have taken such care to ensure their guests are comfortable, accommodated, and know all the best things to see! The blog on their website provides a white glove look into all the things to see! Thank you both so much!

Far away from metropolis life, cool summer nights, quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed central location which maximized our time allowing daily exploration of different sites of interest. Great hostist, strongly recommended for vacation get away.
